March is over and it didn't go as well as I wanted. =/ Basically, I recognized that I was going to have trouble with the next TLS update, so I decided that I would take a month to clear my plate of everything else while I improved the update's plans. But though I did a bunch of work, it wasn't enough. Since I always try to be transparent and some people have been asking about side projects, I'll lay out my overall progress.

TLS: There are two reasons I'm struggling with the upcoming update. 1) I think my outline isn't to the standards I've set, and 2) I'm working through some emotional garbage from last year. It remains very much on my mind, though, and I'd be happier if I'd already gotten the update out. I don't want it to be too long between updates even when I'm putting out other things.

TLS Art: I continue to work with Annikath on figuring out the details with potential art. Please look forward to some TLS threads where you get to see new art and vote on some core decisions about style and how the game's art should be allotted.

Once Ever After: Higher backers got to play the first 10 hours of the game and I made a ton of changes and improvements based on feedback, bringing it to the end of the first major phase. I had intended to keep going until it was done, but I think that would take too much time away from TLS. Still, getting so many opinions was valuable and I feel more confident about commissioning more of the many assets this game will need.

Don't Save the Princess: We are very close to the first major public demo. Actually, the only thing holding it back is that I just haven't put the time into it because I don't want it to distract me from other writing.

New Game Minus #3: I will be happy to finish my LitRPG trilogy, so I'm trying to sink time into this right now. But unfortunately, with a novel of this length I can have a dozen fantastic writing days in a row hardly taking any breaks and still not be finished. It should be wrapped up early April.

Ironside: This novel is completely revised and has gone through beta readers, so it's done for now. Actually, I suppose there's no reason that I couldn't show it to backers here who want to read. It's a standalone novel - low fantasy and somewhat grimdark.

I know at least some people will object to it seeming like I'm spreading myself too thin. That's true to a degree, but I can only argue that my core motivation is momentum: I love creating things, so when I struggle on one I want to keep working by switching to something else. Having said that, some of these have been on my plate for over a year - my goal is to finish them and not replace them with new secondary projects.

Unrelated to all of that, somebody did a speedrun of Ouroboros, which is pretty crazy:

Anyway, back next week, hopefully saying I've finished some things!

While I'm always chomping at the bit for more TLS, I can't say that some delay is unreasonable when things like you say happened this month interfere. Take however long you need. I am super excited about the art and the two books though. It sounds like you're thinking of proceeding with Annikath? I hope that continues to work out. Put me down for an interest in Ironside when you get around to it. I'm always looking for more to read. Thanks for the update! :)

Belly97

Looking forward to Ironside and take as long as you need for TLS.

You writing grimdark sounds pretty interesting to me, I eagerly await its release. Glad you found the speedrun at least interesting in some sense, sub 3hr is totally possible if I wasn't bad. Good luck writing.

We haven't decided to charge ahead with Annikath doing art for the full game, but we are definitely going to be working together some more. At minimum you can count on some art for various scenes in the game and possibly some other scenes just for fun. Anyway, thanks for your interest and support!

sierralee

Appreciate it! Since there's interest in the novel, I will make a thread for it... but a little later, since I don't want feedback on it to distract me from my current writing.

sierralee

Oh, with a game like Ouroboros I'm sure there are tons of opportunities for time saving. I'm just impressed you managed to streamline to core steps to that degree!

"But though I did a bunch of work, it wasn't enough" you're only juggling development on 3 games and wrapping up your 3rd and 4th novel of what, the past 6 months? Yeah, you're totally not getting enough stuff done or something. Relax, you're only human. Unless you're superhuman. Are you a superhuman, Sierra? That might explain some things...

Like any good authour/game developer we love it when you take your time to do it right! Is Ironside your novel that matters as much to you as TLS?

DukeLeto7

I've said it before, but your productivity makes me feel lazy...

sierralee

I wish I was superhuman, but sadly I waste all kinds of time and sometimes struggle with focus. Like right now... I really should be writing. In any case, I appreciate your encouragement!

sierralee

Thanks for your support! Ironside is just a short side experiment, trying to stretch myself. The story that really matters to me is a series of books called The Brightest Shadow.

Troqu

Who are you working with for Don't save the princess? Also I adore Ouroboros, but I don't think there's enough abstraction in the world for me to put a speed run up of it. That kind of thing would just lead to me getting canned for sure.

sierralee

The artist is Santy, from Ouroboros. The programmer is someone who goes by Louck.

Thank you for taking TLS update so seriously. This game is so amazing because you maintain such high standards for it. I really appreciate it. And I wish you success with all your other projects! P.S. Trailer for Don't Save the Princess on Steam is hilarious, I'm looking forward to playing it.

Thanks for your support! And I'm glad to hear you like the DStP trailer - I think the concept is fun and hope it amuses people. ^-^

Glad you like it! It was made by Lamsey and we can probably improve it once I give him the appropriate assets in high resolution.
