Gilead is coming... fast. :-P (Patreon)

These are sad days for freedom of speech and open creativity in our community.

I don’t think many of you will have missed how Patreon has become the Spanish Inquisition and is suspending other creators’ accounts far and wide but yeah, they’re doing it alright and forcing people to “sanitize” (lol) their public posts so Patreon’s Morality Police don’t find a forbidden word they don’t like.

But I don’t want to overextend this post with a lengthy explanation on the state of things that you could Google, so I’ll proceed to explain what our reaction to this attack will be after we launch v0.1.

First and foremost: Patreon can’t be trusted anymore to host the social side of this project. Those topics they find so horrible to even contemplate in a fantasy game, will be included in LOK Rebirth (yeah, I said it) and I don’t want to fool around ‘carefully wording’ or using a paywall to just talk about our game. Even needing to hide nipples in an adult-tagged page was kind of moronic, but written words? Please bitch…

Second, it’s not like Patreon from a technical standpoint is that great you know… several basic features are missing and the ones that exist get on my nerves. Analytics are laughable and focused only on revenue, and I don’t know if you regularly browse Patreon through an Android device but man… that’s slow! And the post editor! Oh, the editor… don’t get me started on that awesome cornucopia of literary features and every web designer’s wet dream [ironic mode off].

And third… this is just about principles now. They already ostracized adult creators by not including our pages in their front page search results, but now they also want to control what we say in public? I beg your pardon…?!

So… okay, they “win”.

When we finish v0.1 and all beta bugs are squashed, I’ll set up a self-managed WordPress web server. Patreon will still be the way for us to gather your financial support, but every post, description, poll, preview, comment, etc., about the game, will be placed in there so Patreon’s Purity Crusaders don’t have any reason to complain about what we talk among ourselves outside their kingdom, okay?

Just to clarify the thing fully: you won’t need to do anything special to gain access to patron-only content at our future private server. There are a number of integration plugins that connect patrons’ status to the membership lists in a WP site. And non-patrons will still be able to see public posts in our server. Non-censored this time, of course!

Also, we will have many other features available to us that with Patreon are out of the question, like having a game forum for instance.

I hope this is enough for them to leave us alone with our legal, but immoral (according to them) hobbies.
