There is some good analysis out there that had women been more prevalent in war, that boob armour might have been a legit thing. In essence men used to oversize their codpieces, why wouldn't a woman in that situation add more of their own shape definition.

Because waging your life in mass combat is all about maximising your chances and minimizing risks. Hence why amazonian women reportedly cauterised/removed the right breast on young girls, remove that which inhibits full and effective motion. An armor with breasts is purely ornamental imo.
