As the year starts to wind down and my best of 2021 awards percolate in my head, I'd love to know what you guys think are some can't miss albums. I have slightly more ambitious plans than the one video I put out last year.

I can't prevent you from just listing your favorite groups though I'd really like the best albums AS A WHOLE. I'll begin to prioritize whatever gets the most likes or has convincing arguments.

Sound off 😁

DPR IAN - Moodswings in this order

Oneus “Devil”, definitely. Half of the songs on that album could easily be title tracks.

Anonymous

Favorite album as a whole would probably have to be BTOB’s Brother Act album. (With special shout outs to N.Flying, Sam Kim, and Crush)

I Say Mamamoo: The Best - maybe cheating since it's supposed to be their best songs redone

Steph M

Sorry, long comment ahead, but I was literally just sorting through my favourite albums of 2021 earlier so I have a lot of thoughts on this 😅 You've mentioned your interest in doing LILAC and 1/6, and they're incredible, but here are my other top favourite albums that I'd recommend: AKMU - Next Episode: A collection of fantastic collaborations. Each song has its own unique feel, but the albums is very cohesive to me as a whole. WJSN - Unnatural: A collection of 5 top-tier pop bangers, and one of my favourite ballads of the year. Pretty sure this is my most-played album of the year overall, the production on this is fantastic. N.Flying - Turbulence/Man on The Moon: This one is constantly fighting LILAC for my AOTY spot. It has a pretty laid-back vibe overall, but the songs are all fantastic, and the vocals are immaculate. And Video Therapy on the repackage is an absolute banger.

Two of my favourite albums that you haven’t reacted to are ONF: My Name and Pentagon Love or Take. ONF have had so many comebacks this year but Beautiful Beautiful has been their best title track hands down, it’s so catchy, fun and totally different to anything else released this year. They also had a song on their album introducing each member of the group and their B side The Realist is probably one of the best songs of this year. Pentagon Love or Take was probably one of the most imaginative concepts of this year, and each song featured was so different from the last but somehow they all fit the theme perfectly. Every time I listen to this album I just come away from it feeling happy. “10s And” especially is another of my favourite B sides of this year.

Here are some of my favourite albums of the year: ~Kang Daniel "Yellow" - Not only are all the songs great, but they tell an amazing and powerful story if you listen to the album in order. ~Nu'est "Romanticize" - All the members have solo songs in addition to group songs. ~CIX "OK Prologue: Be OK" - While I've liked some of their title tracks I've never LOVED any of them. But their b-sides on this album are so good that it made me a fan. ~Woodz "Only Lovers Left" - His voice ... ~Kang Seung Yoon "Page" - I know nothing about him except that all the songs on this album are great. ~NCT 127 "Favorite" - The thing that always gets me with NCT albums is the outstanding production quality and the uniqueness of the songs that have a completely "NCT noise sound".

Jay Geris

Chung Ha's Querencia, Even Of Day's Right Through Me, and Gatcha from LUCY.

Hold on, let me get my spotify playlist and see which albums I loved this year. My favourite of the entire year is N.Flying’s Man on the Moon album, I kid you not, I have all 10 songs off of that album in my playlist. Comma,, Zip. and Moonshot are my favourites. Comma, especially, I could listen to that song all day. I’m gonna reply to this comment with other favourites because otherwise this comment is gonna be way too long, so prepare yourself for a whole essay of albums I loved.

First off, VICTON’s VOICE: The future is now album with What I Said as the title track. That album blew me away. I don’t know much about VICTON but had liked their songs for a while, then What I Said, one of the best songs of the year was released and I had to check out the album. And man, did it not disappoint. I still listen to that album very often. The b-side Unpredictable is one of my favourite songs of this year. SHINee’s Atlantis - The 7th Album Repackage. Now why this one and not their 7th album Don’t Call Me? Why because the repackage has Area and Days and Years on it of course. I can have those songs on REPEAT and not get sick of them. Also, body rhythm, is so fucking good. Makes me wanna move with that uncoordinated body of mine. DAY6’s TBOU: Negentropy obviously. But you already know why. P1Harmony’s DISHARMONY: BREAK OUT album! So, I really do not like P1Harmony’s debut song, it’s very meh to me, has no “flavour”. But then Scared happened, that is SUCH a good title track, might actually be my SOTY now that I’m thinking about it. But not only Scared is great and surprised me, no no no, that whole album is FULL of bops. It’s a shorter album, but an amazing one at that. TXT’s The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE. I have liked 3 songs off that album alone on my Spotify, the title 0X1, Anti-Romantic and No Rules. And I don’t just like any song on Spotify, it’s kind of like a huge upgrade in my system lmao. Like if I’ve heard a song 5 times and I start to be like fuuuck this song is actually so good though? And I can’t stop thinking about it and want to repeat it etc, then it gets the upgrade. So yes. Amazing album. SEVENTEEN with both albums they released this year actually. Probably with a tiiiiny preference to Your Choice. Heaven’s Cloud is just unlike any other song and it makes me feel like I’m.. well, in the clouds. PENTAGON’s Love or Take. They simply never disappoint. Tell me a group that has a song like Baby I Love You and That’s Me on the same album, that’s right, you can’t. Sing-a-song and 10s and are favourites (thanks for teaching me how to count in korean pentagon ♡) B.I’s WATERFALL. I was actually late to this album, but so glad I checked it out anyways. Remember me, is, SO GOOD. I love that song so much, and the whole album just fits and is perfect and ugh, the talent. STAYC’s STEREOTYPE EP. I know it’s not an album, but it is very good and I wanted to mention it anyways. WOODZ with ONLY LOVERS LEFT. MAAAAAAAAAN he killed that album. I can’t believe this exists. From the phenomenal title track that is WAITING to the weird funky bop that is Sour candy, I can’t get enough. Kiss of fire and Thinkin bout you are favourites of that album alongside the title track. Ok I’m gonna leave it at this. This was gonna be my initial comment but I had to restrain myself and limit it to one album in my comment but still wanted to reply with these so HEHE 🙃

For me it is no doubt (G) I-DLE's I Burn. The whole atmosphere and the flow of the album is amazing. I also think it fits winter so well. It conveys the feel of fire in the middle of a cold winter perfectly. I do admit that a factor that does affect my feelings towards this album is that it came out the day I woke up to the most amazing winter day I have ever seen. For me this made the album even more amazing.

XSHINeeBAP

SHINee - Atlantis

V G (Zay)

SHINee's Atlantis is stunning, and so is ONF's mini Popping! 2PM's album Must is also A+

Stephen Ball

Up until Twice's album came out my favorite album of the year by far was actually Woojin's album, it's an incredible album that got super overlooked. I think both Purple Kiss albums are among the best this year, and I also really loved Dear Oh My Girl. Maybe that's my top 5 along with Formula of Love.

Daniela Padilla

for me WJSN unnatural and STAYC's sterotype can't be missed

Anonymous

For me it's G-Idle's "I burn" and DEFINITELY CL-"Alpha"! I feel like CL is so incredibly underrated and her album was totally worth the wait for me because I just have no skip songs there, they're all very different but fit each other perfectly at the same time (:

Lee Hi 4Only is impeccable just saying. She honestly doesn't miss and her voice only gets better as the years go on. She also does an amazing blend of genres on her albums and this one is no exception

i personally prefer cohesive albums with an overall theme and a consistent sound (and lyrics, lyrics are important to me), which is pretty rare in kpop (not a bad thing just my personal taste in albums - my favorite songs of the year would be an entirely different list!), and my recs will reflect that this is a total wild card for you but my favorite album this year from korean music was "the land of fantasy" by Jannabi. quirky, thoughtful, lush, ambitious, hits better when you listen to it all in a row. reminded me oddly of the suburbs by arcade fire + aim and ignite by fun. there's songs about loneliness, growing up, imagination, and the beatles. "next episode" by AKMU is another incredible work. the features alone are !!! and the album just feels so good to listen to, beginning to end. exceptional harmonies & melodies (as expected from them). themes of war and trust and hardship, starting with an uncomfortable sort of sadness and ending on a note of hope. i really love it. i'll also throw in "and then there was us" by hoppipolla since you already like them and this album was very good. conceptualized as a story from beginning to end ("where can i find love?") - i guarantee you'll be hooked on track 1 ALSO epik high is here part 1!!!! i can't believe i almost forgot, i mean epik high has been killing it since i was in high school but the maturity in this one made me feel weirdly nostalgic. there's a lot of diversity here, but somehow it still flows well

Qwarky

I will list my personnal top 3: Redd - Wheein: A masterpiece, and i choose this word precisely!!!! Everything song on it is perfect. Every single song represent Wheein and her musicality. This is her style and genre of music, this album just show to the world why she is the greatest. This album is so cohesive and yet we see so many colors of her. Summer Holiday - Dreamcatcher: I got something personal with this one. It's this album who made me fall deep in love with Dreamcatcher. From "Because" who is probably my favourite TT of them with "Scream", "Whistle" who is on my top5 songs of the year overall. I could go on for hours on "Alldaylong" but i won't bother you guys. A solid Summer drop for our queens. Hide & Seek - Purple Kiss: Suprised Pikatchu face..... i love PK so much and this album will be rembered as a defining point for their career imho. From the catchiest TT to the craziness of "Cast perals before swine". The magic of "Twinkle", the dreamy pop vibe of "ZzZz" and finally "So Why" who is my SOTY i listen to it at least 3 times a day and the fact that Chaein composed it all alone still let me in awe. They dropped this 6month after their debuts just imagine in only a year!! So much diversity but at the same time it sound so "PK" i don't know how to put it in other words. I can't omit some other albums such as: Pixy's "Temptation" an other turning point this year where i fell for an other GG. "Addicted" is dope, "bewitched" is TT worthy and "Moonlight" is just incredible sadly this album is really too short to make the list. Wanted to mention Onewe's latest album "Planet nine: alter ego" only bangers but as expected from them. And last but not least: Bibi's album "Life is a Bi..." The voice of this woman, her style of music, everything she does i absolutly adore. She is a gem that no one seems to notice sadly. PS: i didn't mention MMM album "I say MMM: the best" even tho it's the best album this year but it's cheating they just made an album with perfect bangers remixed so its not fair for the competition XD That's it for my 2021 top picks albums even tho you already check out a lot of them already i had to mention them.

There are a lot of good albums this year and I have yet to listen to some of them but here are some that I think are the most cohesive and works for me overall as a whole. Although I do have to say that some of these are from artists you haven't reacted to before so I guess it could be a good way to check them out? :) Hoppipolla - And Then There Was Us: You guys knew it was going to be here with the number of times I've mentioned it before, haha. But bias aside, I really love how cohesive it is lyric and music-wise and there's progression from intro to outro. Everything goes perfectly together so highly recommend listening to it in order. Very introspective. Released in January, I can say it's an album that literally got me throughout the entire year. I've got a lyric video playlist for this that you can refer to if you do end up listening to it. :) IU - LILAC: For obvious reasons. Everything she puts out is astounding. AKMU - Next Episode: An amazing collab album that gathers some of my favorite voices together. Has seamless transitions between songs. Epik High - Epik High is Here Part 1: I can't find the right word to describe this poetic masterpiece, it's just soo good. Fantastic solo listening experience that makes you feel so many emotions. Epik High is an iconic alternative hiphop trio and they're a group worth listening to. (G)IDLE - I Burn: Instantly became my favorite (G)I-DLE album when I first listened to it. Loved the atmosphere of it. I feel like the songs transition very well to one another. Nerd Connection - New Century Masterpiece Cinema: NerdCon is an indie kband and you haven't reacted to them yet. This is their first full-length album and it's a wonderful listening experience. Songs have really great soundscapes and explore interesting themes. NELL - Moments in Between: Love the concept of this. The album unfolds a bittersweet story of two people falling in and out of love, starting from a love confession in the first track to a goodbye track with the last. It has that signature NELL sound. N.Flying - Man on the Moon/Turbulence: I love how musically complex it is. The production is great. It's lovely to listen to in order. Oh god, this got long again. I'm so sorry!! But these are some that I really loved as a whole. I still have a lot to listen to but I can say that these are already on the top of my list.

EnzioAkira

I’d say Golden Child - Game Changer, a stacked album with a coherent and high quality bsides. Truly a game changer for them. CIX - Be OK, holds my 2nd favorite baide of the year and the rest are all above an 8 for me. Victon - VOICE: The future is now, Victon came back swinging with this and it’s criminal how under appreciated it went. The Boyz - Breaking Dawn, technically their “Japanese” album, but there’s like a total of 1 Japanese song on it and all of the songs are worth a listen even if you can’t get to a reaction I highly highly recommend listening to the songs. And it would be a mistake not to mention SHINee - Atlantis, my ultgroup came back after 3 years with a full album+repackage and they kept up their high quality discography. I’m horribly biased but I digress. Key - Bad love and Ateez - Fever pt. 3 and Enhypen - Border: Carnival are all great minis with gorgeous bsides and SOLID concept coherency

Omg ok, well you already know my fav haha so these are my other picks ~ B.I's Cosmos and Waterfall. B.I has released the AlbumS of the year for me. I thought Waterfall was absolutely** fantastic and I've seen alot of ppl and reactors list it as one of their favourite albums. And then he released a half album, Cosmos, recently which I think is even more up your alley. And the dude writes/produces all the songs himself which is something I always appreciate. BTOB's 4U: Outside. Every single song was a bop. Nuff said. IU Lilac. My Sea alone is reason enough to listen to the whole album. Kim Woojin's The moment: I dont even know the guy. I just happened to watch his performance of Ready Now while waiting for ptg on a music show and then checked out his album bcos I rly liked that song. I was rly surprised at how much I loved all the tracks. Outside of 2021, im just gonna throw this one album into the mix - PSY's 8th 4x2=8 . PSY is best known for meme songs like gangnam style etc. But those aside, PSY is a musical genius and I feel like ppl just dont know! I think he is a great lyricist (his writing is always so worldly) and i love his compositions; his bsides are absolutely top tier. Hes definitely one of the goats and theres a reason why the man is now a CEO of his own company. I think youd also rly enjoy the rock elements in some of his songs. Ok I rly wanna list more albums outside of 2021 too but Imma stop myself if not I'm gonna be here typing here til December. Loll

You guys are killing it with these detailed responses! Thank you so much for all the help. Definitely going to use this whole post as reference for the rest of the year.

KS

Epik High Is Here Part 1, BTOB 4U's Outside, Pentagon's Love and Take, Key's Bad Love, and DPR Ian's Moodswings in this Order. These are the albums with my most listens this year. I think they are extremely strong concept-wise and all of the songs make a cohesive album which is super important to me. If I can't listen to an album begin to end without skips than it's not making into my top favorites.

Anonymous

To my memory you haven't reacted to Ailee before, but her albums from this year, Lovin' and Amy are great. Amy is specifically meaningful because it's her first album with Ravi's label after her struggles with releasing music in the past because of her shitty labels. Even if you don't listen to the albums, I think you'd like her music.

hayun lee

nct 127's sticker, gwsn's the other side of the moon, taemin's advice, and pentagon's love or take are definitely my 2021 favorites.

Anonymous

super junior's the renaissance- it's their most recent album and was supposed to be released for their 15th anniversary but got delayed a lot. it's the album house party is off of

Anonymous

Hello, I'm new this month, I follow you on Youtube before finally joining in Patreon. Best album for me is Oneus - Devil, it's the first album that I put on repeat, usually I just play title tracks. Oneus - Binary Code I felt is more cohesive, but it's too short and 2 songs are not entirely new (Vakyrie rock ver. they use same vocal recording, and Connect With Us is a long version of Outro: Connect With Us from Devil album).

capTYN

I really loved I.M's solo project DUALITY, she's rather unknown but YongYong is a female soloist whose album Vanillaryy was amazing, Winner's Kang Seung Yoon had an album called PAGE which was super enjoyable. Kang Daniel's Yellow was a mini-album but still had some great songs, AKMU also came back this year with their album NEXT EPISODE. A DJ? (not really sure exactly but is under SM i think) Raiden had his mini-album Love right back with features including Miyeon of (g)-idle, taeil and Xiaojun of NCT, Yoojung of weki meki/ioi, pH-1 and nino lucarelli. These are just some of my favourite solist projects of this year that I don't think you have checked out yet.

IndigoAir

This has been an interesting year for me, musically. I've been dealing with a lot on a personal level and that has definitely effected the music that has left an impression on me. So a lot of my favourite albums were not from my favourite groups. DKB: The Dice Is Cast The group's first full album, from start to finish this is possibly the album with the most tracks with the highest average rating for each track (10 songs, only 1 ranked below 4/5 stars) HOWEVER they totally cheated on this one because all but 2 or 3 of the songs are pulled from their previous mini albums Nu'Est: Romanticize Next highest average, also 10 tracks but this time all of them were new. The last 5 tracks are solos by each member and I liked every one of them. N.Flying: Man On The Moon This is an interesting one because I liked the album and listened to it on repeat several times but I can't really pick out one singular favourite. There was one song I thought was ehhhh but this is one where I wouldn't just pick out a couple favourites and add them to a playlist, I would continue listening to the full album. And for mini albums; The Boyz: Thrill Ride Dreamcatcher: Dystopia: Road To Utopia Seventeen: Your Choice Blitzers: Check-In

Anonymous

I hadn't really listened to Chung Ha and decided to give Querencia a try when it came out. I was a bit intimidated because I've grown used to the short compact size of mini albums so when I saw 21 songs... yeah, I didn't know what to expect. But damn, is it a good album! so many great b-sides, and the instrumentals break up the sections so nicely. Definitely one of my top releases this year too!

AvaPlaya

Personally some of the can't-miss albums in my opinion: Epik High Is Here Pt. 1 - Epik High Lilac - IU Unnatural - WJSN Waterfall - B.I Page - Kang Seung Yoon Next Episode - AKMU Empathy - D.O. 032 Funk - BewhY Love Right Back - Raiden (he's an sm dj so there's a lot of features like Miyeon, Taeil and Yoojung) Amy - Ailee There would be others but I only did the ones I think you might have missed.

Martin Schafer

For me the best is I Say Mamamoo, the Best. While there are only a couple of completely new songs, each track is remade and these versions are all better than the originals and those originals include many of their best songs.

Anonymous

My English is not good enough for convincing arguments but people up here in the comments already explained why you should check out WOODZ's "Only lovers left" and CIX's "OK" Prologue: Be OK". And they are right:) I also really liked TXT's "The chaos chapter: FREEZE", 100% my most listened album of 2021

vKaedehara

Epik High - Epik High is Here Pt 1: from start to finish a lyrically perfect album from the hip hop trio. They've been in the game for quite some time and always impress me with their sound.

Ebony Coco

ONEUS - DEVIL and CIX - PROLOGUE

Kris

So many no skip albums for me this year. KEY - BAD LOVE - cohesive, new retro and so so good Young K - Eternal - musically nostalgic, beautiful P1Harmony - Breakthrough - cementing their sound, I personally haven't heard anything else like this out there. young, energetic, hip hop sound with some R&B and very cohesive as a whole Yugyeom - Point of View: U - trapy pop r&b with chill beats - I feel like this one flew under the radar but also I can understand it, very very chill OTher no skips for me from: Stray Kids, Day6, Even of Day, PIXY, LUCY, CIX, TXT, ATEEZ, SF9, almost forgot Enhypen!!

I didn't add why for every choice because I feel it would be a lot to read, but these are the most cohesive & well made/well-thought albums I heard all year. if I pick top 5 of all year then 1- SHINee - Atlantis, 2- Key - Bad love, 3- Lee Hi - 4only, 4-IU- lilac, 5- AKMU-Next episode

Lauri

SHINee Atlantis

Falco

PENTAGON - Love or Take (The album centers around the them 'love'. Even though the tracks are vastly different from each other they are connected through this thread and allow different perspectives on love. It's also got a really nice structure. Starting with a countdown and ending with a song with a lot of group-vocals. (I'd view Hui's solo song at the very end as an extra treat)) N.Flying - Turbulence (this one saved my life and it's a compilation album with a few new songs. I feel like it flows really well) A.C.E - Siren:Dawn (they always have such cool intros to their albums and I really like the structure of the album going from more to less dramatic) B.I - Waterfall (it's just a really good album that puts you in a certain mood) CNBLUE - Wanted (this one caught me by surprise! only checked it out because I liked the title track, but it's just a whole package of happiness)

seekified

Mentioned a lot recently, but 1/6 and Querencia. They're both cohesive, well-produced and filled to the brim with stellar songs that I've kept listening to over and over. I also want to add Soyeon's Windy to that list for similar reasons, and the fact that I had that on repeat for weeks when it dropped. It's very Soyeon, but the B-sides sound nothing like Beam Beam and the album gradually gets darker and stronger with each song. Among the stuff you've already heard, I burn, Summer Holiday and & are my favorites just in terms of how many of the songs I've playlisted and memorized.

Luna

sorry in advance for the long comment --IU - Lilac : This album not only cohesive, but it's the first album I full liked from IU & songs like (my sea) made really fall in love with her voice and probably one of my fav songs I heard ever from her --SHINee - Atlantis: Not saying this because I like them, but really my favorite boy group album released this year and one of my favorite albums that got released the entire year. it also pretty cohesive, it had the funky vibes I really love from them and to be completely honest not just the album is a feel good album overall, but most of the songs on the album are title track material. Code, Heart Attack, Area & Kiss Kiss are perfection --AKMU - Next Episode: This is probably my favorite album they have ever released, each song tells a story & each song has a different vibes/different sound & all the features are great. I am in love with this album and honestly one of fave albums ever I would even say. Nakka & hey, kid close your eyes mad me tear up and just in love with the songs and album. --Key - Bad Love: I think this is one of the best retro sound albums I have ever heard. the entire comeback & album from the songs to the album design is best thing I have seen this year, in the album not only Key have done the concept he wanted to do even before he debuted with shinee, but he showed his vocals while doing that ( he always been a great vocalist, but it tend to be not exactly noticed by non-fans or casual fans but he really showed his vocals here ) the song eighteen is one of my favorite songs the entire year, the lyrics and emotion is how he sings that song is just heavenly --Yukika - timeabout, : the songs on this album not only great, but overall very soothing & you can also tell how she is getting better with each release & how she keeps evolving as an artist. time travel is a must listen song --Taemin- Advice: while this isn't my favorite album from him, it still a great album & one of my fave mini albums released this year. his vocals just keeps getting better with every new release & it is beautiful to witness. the songs light & sad kids (sad kids is like a prequel for his other song 2kids but even better) are so so beautiful --Lee Hi - 4 Only: This album is just perfect. lee hi is the queen of emotions, you can feel every emotion the song wants to convey & the album showed many sides of her plus it showed how much she has grown as an artist ---Weeekly - We Play: this mini album made me feel happy & weekly are really one of the best new groups in my opinion, they get better with every new release ---Cherry Bullet - Cherry Rush: just like weeekly album, I feel the same here. to be complete honest I didn't really notice them much before, but this comeback & this album made me a fan & really one of my fave girlgroups albums released this year --HEIZE - Happen: This album is stunning, it deserved more love. each song is just beautiful. from the rain, why, happen & hi hello are just perfect songs they made love her as an artist even more. not just saying this because I like her, but really one of the best albums released this year --TVXQ's Yunho or U-know - Noir: One of the most well thought albums released this yea, each song has a different vibe & all songs show his strength as an artist. Need you right now & La rose are my favorite from the album --Dreamcatcher - Summer Holiday: I admit I didn't fully like road to utopia, but I was in love with this album & it gave me everything I wanted from them not just with the title track which is from my fave title tracks from them ever, but the b-sides are just beautiful honorable mentions: sunmi -1/6, 2pm - must, red velvet - queendom, wjsn- unnatural, twice- formula of love

Pentagon's Love or Take has been my go-to this year. Even if winter is already at our doors, it still makes sense and gives me joy. It's cohesive and versatile at the same time. Jazz, soft EDM and R&B inspiration are all united in this album that will leave you smiling... until Boy in Time because Hui will make you cry with his meaningful song and amazing vocals.

Luna

forgot to mention GWSN - the other side of the moon: this is a perfect album & this group overall really deserve more recognition & love. like it hot & starry night are so pretty

I will try to make this very short. I will break it down to solo albums, girlgroups & boygroups to keep it more organized. so for solo albums:- 1) Key - Bad Love: retro done extremely well. the album reflects beautifully on the concept itself & it also a concept he wanted to do for so long & he really delivered. it is fun, playful & emotional at times all while the album still retain the retro sound. his vocals are stunning in the album especially in bad love & eighteen . my fav b-side from the album is "Saturday Night". 2) IU - Lilac: other comments already said what I feel about the album as well. it really is a beautifully made album. "My sea" alone is just stunning & one of my top 10 b-sides this year. 3) Heize - Happen: beautiful album from start to finish. each track I can vividly imagine an mv for it . very mature & lovely. my fav b-side is "like the first time" love this song a lot. 4) Lee Hi - 4Only: a stunning album. my favourite female soloist release this year. every track is perfect. my fav b-side from the album is "only" made me tear up a lot. 5) Sunmi - 1/6: This is a very well produced and pretty album. my fav b-side is "sunny". 6) Yerin Baek - Love, Yerin: a beautiful chill album to listen to. my fav b-side is "a walk". 7) Yukika - Timeabout,: her music is just stunning overall & she keeps getting better with each new release. this album is my fav from her & one of my fav releases this year. fav b-side is "time travel". 8) Taemin - Advice: his vocals in the album are really beautiful. each song is different than the other & all are really good songs. his voice in sad kids especially is really beautiful. my fav b-side is "light". 9) Woodz - Only lovers left: with each new release he keeps growing on me as an artist & I really like this album one of the best soloist releases this year. my fav b-side is "chaser". 10) Yunho/U-Know from TVXQ - Noir: well made album, each track is very good & different. he done so well with the concept & the release in general. each song reflect on different side of him as an artist. my fav b-side is "need you right now". 11) AKMU - Next Episode: adding them here because they are a duo. one of the best releases this year and maybe even ever. loved everything about this album from start to finish. every song is so good and tells a different story. all features are very good. "Nakka" is my fav song on the album. for girlgroups:- 1) Twice - Formula of love: I love how they grow & mature with each release while still having this playfulness & their fresh sound. my fav b-side is "Icon". 2) Dreamcatcher - Summer Holiday: I love this album so much, each song is beautiful & because is seriously my fav title track they had so far. my fav b-side is "all day long". 3) GWSN - The other side of the moon: beautiful well made album, each track is beautiful. my fav b-side is "starry night". 4) Cherry Bullet - Cherry rush: very fun album that made me smile a lot. this album made me a fan of them. my fav b-side is "whatever". 5) Weeekly - We play: their songs really make me smile & just feel happy while listening to them. this os my fav album from them. my fav b-side is "yummy". 6) WJSN - Unnatural: they really matured a lot and I really loved this album. well produced album. my fav b-side is "new me". 7) Red Velvet - Queendom: I really liked this album a lot, it is very well produced album, liked it even more because it gave me lowkey f(x) vibes in some tracks that I have been missing from girlgroups. my fav b-side is "pose". 8) Oh My Girl - Dear oh my girl: their sound really matured a lot and have been evolving which is something I really like to see. my fav b-side "swan". for boy groups:- 1) SHINee - Atlantis: This album is perfect. all songs are title tracks material. while I can say that the main title track "don't call me" might seem a bit out of place in the album since rest of the album more closer in sound than it, but it still so so good. the album itself has the funky vibes, very playful and sweet & the more sentimental songs are still very hopeful. my fav b-sdes are "I really want you". 2) 2PM - Must: another 2nd gen boy group, but really they do know how to make great albums. this album is jazzy and really lovely. they did such great job with everything on it. my fav b-side is "two of us". 3) Epik High - Epik High is Here Pt 1: perfection is all I gonna say. the lyrics are stunning. they did great with this album. my fav b-side is "based on true story".

My favourite albums: #1 And Then There Was Us - Hoppipolla. This is a masterpiece. #2 Planet Nine: Alter Ego - Onewe. I mean, it has AuRoRa, maybe my favourite song from 2021. And Kanghyun is a genius. Overall solid album. #3 Next Episode - AKMU. Amazing and mindblowing collabs. #4 The Way For Us - Kwon Jin Ah. It's a soloist's self-written album, I think most kpop fans ain't even aware of who this lady is. It's a pity. #5 Happen - Heize. Quality album. #6 Into Violet - Purple Kiss. Rookie of the year. Period. #7 I burn - (G)i-dle. What a cohesive, emotional album. And I really really really loved Wendy's Like Water album, but I can't decide if I'm biased or not. Also shoutout to Victon (and especially Han Seungwoo), NFlying and ONF, they had an amazing year.

Shinee - Atlantis is a no skip album for me!

SHINee Key’s Bad Love. Album of the year not just musically but also conceptually. It’s literally the entire package - cohesive concept visually, cohesive theme musically, driven by the artist’s vision, passion and personal experience. Key’s Bad Love is honestly not just an album, it’s an experience ✌🏻

Firstly Im not sure if you can or are willing to react to jpop but I think they have really good artist! Especially INI! they just debuted with ~ A (Special Edition) ~ I would love if you listened to it because they are very talented. They were formed from produce 101 japan season 2 and have two mvs for their predebut! They are really hardworking since the beginning! So yeah I recommend A( Special Edition) * Also The Boyz Thrill Ride Album*!! Is so good! My favorite song of the boyz for so long is no air but after hearing this album it was definitely a no skip album!! I had to rethink my top songs bc it was that good! Golden Childs Game Changer Album*!! Full of unit songs that take you on a roller coaster of emotions! Has my favorite song of theirs now on that album as well! They sound amazing and also did cool self made mvs for their unit songs if your interested about that! 1. INI - A(Special Edition) 2. THE BOYZ - Thrill Ride 3. GOLDEN CHILD - Game Changer

To me in 2021 their are two albums really standing out. REDD by Wheein and windy by soyeon REDD is a masterpiece of R&B and coffee shop vibe. It’s a album with no skip. Just let it play on the background in any occasion and it bound to be perfect. I played it a lot to my non kpop friend and they loved the overall feeling of this album Windy on the other hand is just FUN. Every song is a bop and has a playful vibe To it. Another no skip album. Other albums I will always appreciate: Mamamoo melting. If you want quality music with a lot of live instruments and a lot of fantastic jazzy vocals. Look no further. Altho my personal fav mamamoo album is white wind, I can’t deny the masterpiece that is melting. Some: Fume by jay b. Classic R&B hip hop album. Breath of love: last piece by got7 I like more got7 albums but I think I like this one the best. Married to the music by shinee I enjoy this album and come back from time to time

The releases that stood out to me this year would be Itzy - Guess Who - I actually only listened to this once when it first came out and thought it was decent but kind of forgot about it. Then I randomly heard Sorry Not Sorry somewhere and thought I should give it another listen. It made me feel like I'm losing my mind, because my follow up listen I loved every song, and it might be my favourite album of the year. Billlie - Billage of Perception: chapter one - I completely missed all the predebut content for these guys, and didn't really know they were debuting until it happened. I wasn't in love with Ring x Ring initially, though I appreciated they went for an unconventional sound. After listening to the EP, I think at least 2 of the songs on there would have been more appropriate title tracks, but all of the tracks are different, interesting and great. Flipping a coin is quickly becoming my most played song. StayC - Stereotype - It's interesting, I wouldn't call any of the songs on this EP bangers or anything like that. It's a very low key, chilled out EP. But they're just all so good at the same time. The girl's voices are fantastic, the production is immaculate. I've listened to this so much. Jeon Soyeon - Windy - I think 'Is This Bad Bitch Number' kind of overshadowed the rest of the album for me initially. I was so hyped about that collab that I kind of ditched all the others. But it's honestly so good, the whole way through. Funnily enough, I think Beam Beam is my least favourite song from it, and I do like Beam Beam. Everglow - Last Melody - This one is only 3 tracks, so I don't think it is technically even an EP. Also the tonal shift between First and the other 2 tracks is insane. But they all impressed me, so I wanted to mention it. Btw, the amount of albums that I thought 'Oh that was one of my favourites' and it came out in 2020 was way too much. Lockdown has ruined my brains ability to differentiate between years.

I just listened to Formula of Love. It definitely would have been in my list haha.

I just wanted to add a belated comment that DKB's The dice is cast is also 100% a favourite, I just didn't count it because it has so many 'old' songs on it from 2020 hahaha, so in my head that was not allowed. But it is a 2021 album and I saw other people mention it, hence here I am supporting my monster rookies

Others have already mentioned most of my faves, so I'll just quickly second the shout-outs for CIX, AKMU, DPR Ian, VICTON, WOODZ, Soyeon, and Chungha. But I'd also like to mention OnlyOneOf's Instinct Pt. 1. "Libido" was obviously ICONIC, but I'm sad that the b-sides didn't get more attention. "Byredo" and "Tear of God" in particular are masterpieces. They capture OOO's signature slinky-sexy, almost menacing sound perfectly. I truly can't think of another group with a similar sound, at least not in my relatively limited knowledge! And this one just came out in the past week, but it's already for SURE in my top albums list. Forestella's Hyungho (solo name is PITTA) released a solo album called ID: PITTA, and it's STUNNING. Very rock-influenced, very dramatic at points and chill at others, reminds me of both Fall Out Boy *and* Tori Amos somehow??? And with "Icarus". it has my favorite b-side of the entire year, hands-down, no competition. Highly, highly recommend. (Also HIGHHHLYYY recommend Forestella in general for anyone who hasn't listened to them!!)

nva

...okay clearly I'm late to the party, but I'll still put in my two cents here! I think, along with Formula of Love by Twice and Fever: Pt 3 by Ateez, that TXT's The Chaos Chapter: Freeze was the highlight album of my year. Especially since you've mentioned that you also like rock music/edgier genres (and that you enjoyed I Know I Love You and LOSER=LOVER!) that you'd like this album too! Some of the songs on that album are unlike anything I've heard another kpop artist try out -- just heavy rock influences (even rivalling Day6, a literal band!) that fit the members surprisingly well ... yeah, hope you'll give that a listen eventually!

i always forget Oneus devil was out on 2021. It is such a great album seriously. ♥️♥️♥️

Mamamoo's I Say MAMAMOO: The Best Album

Nappycat797

This comment. thanks for mentioning REDD I think it gets overshadowed as her solo album but i truly think wheein put her heart and soul into it and I can feel it. (also White wind has my whole heart xD )

Nappycat797

But OK. ATTACCA from Seventeen, I think that this album is my favorite because it has a theme that is felt throughout the album, but songs have their own unique flavor and contribution to the overall rock/ballad/throwback theme. And the vocal Hip-Hop unit song is probably my favorite, with one of the catchiest and best title tracks I think seventeen has. Sorry, clearly I can go on and on xD I know I Say MAMAMOO :The best album doesn't count so i wanted to mention it as my personal favorite :P
