Jihyo writing and composing Cactus.. You can see her inner MyDay shine through.

"Feel like I'm at that point of this album where I just know what I'm getting and I'm just vibing with it, you know" Prince, a track before Hello. LOL.

Kate Vells

Jihyo wrote and composed Cactus, she did it from the perspective of her dead cactus Ang (we got to love this woman) ngl I almost cried with cactus it felt so nostalgic and like home lol

Steph M

The fact that such an emotional rock ballad was inspired by Jihyo's dead cactus is really something, the jokes about it on Twitter have been cracking me up 😅 Definitely a really good album here. Everything was solid, and then the few tracks that really stood out to me were Rewind, Push and Pull, Last Waltz, and Espresso. And I agree with what you were saying at the end, you can really feel the thought and effort that's gone into making this project. TWICE's last few albums have been top-tier, their team really knows what they're doing. Also yes, I'd definitely recommend their Japanese MVs! Their MV for BDZ is one of my favorites in all of kpop, it's amazing

My rankings: God tier: Cactus (basically top10 of 2021 category) S tier: Last waltz, Rewind (holy shit, awesome tracks) A tier: Cruel, Icon, Candy (high quality) B tier: Scientist, Real you, 1,3,2, Espresso (great songs) C tier: FILA, Push&Pull, Moonlight (good or meh, depending on my mood) LOL tier: Hello (I'm sorry, I can't take it seriously, but it's a great meme song) Cactus made me emotional, that piano part, especially before Sana's line... holy hell, made me tear up on first listen. That song is a masterpiece. Nostalgia because of the 00s sound, but freshness because we wouldn't expect Twice to have this type of song. And Last Waltz is godsent. Cry For Me's sister. Twice's growth is so inspiring and amazing imo. Literally every album is better than their previous, getting more talented over the years, getting involved more in their albums (mostly with lyrics, which you appreciate!) Mostly agree with your "rant" at the end, so I can't comment on that. Glad you can speak your mind here!

I am having a hard time ranking the songs, particularly since I waited to read the lyrics until your reaction vids, and now have to re-evaluate everything. Moonlight, Last Waltz, Cruel, Cactus, and Candy definitely all stood out as top songs for me, but it's gonna be a while until I can fully say which are my absolute favorites, and whether this album trumped Eyes Wide Open. Hello definitely hit me like a truck, and I also love it for it's bold style. I am a HUGE fan of Momo rapping, so I was sold once I heard her first line. And Nayeon surprised me!! Her rapper name btw is MC Rail (you'll probably come across MC Rail during your exploration of Twice content). You're suggestion of a collab performance between Twice and Day6 skyrocketed me to cloud 9, I would die a happy woman after watching that! I can relate to your thoughts and feelings concerning what path Blackpink has taken and how they've been managed (no opinion on BTS, as I am not usually a fan of boy groups and never really followed their career before, though their latest English tracks are definitely not my cup of tea). I was a fan of BP since debut, but I haven't been so involved in their music since Kill This Love, as their songs just haven't appealed to me in quite the same way since then. Happy for them though and all their success, just not really a group I follow much with their current musical style. Anyway, great album reaction. Can't wait to see more Twice content (and Day6, patiently waiting on your reactions to Gravity and earlier stuff)

I'm giving it more time to digest before confirming, but this might be my overall favorite kpop album I've heard. It just has everything I want, all the songs are so good, and the members really got to shine more than ever. I don't even know what to say my favorite tracks are. I've probably listened to Icon the most so far haha, but just because it's so fun to listen to. Hello was such a fun surprise (my only wish is that we got another verse instead of the Fanfare repetition at the end). But yes, we need a live stage, and not just because Nayeon is my ult bias.

Okay, talking favorites....it's difficult for me, dare i say impossible. I'm always dreading full Twice albums because i know i have to add 17 tracks to my evergrowing playlist that's already so long as it is. I'm not into slow songs that much so even though i can recognize people loving Rewind, it's the only song that didn't make the cut for my "normal" kpop playlist. Cactus on the other hand won me over despite being a slower song, but the rock elements just blew my mind. Absolute number 1 songs for me are Icon, Fall in love again, Espresso and yes, i loved Hello very much. I also put Cruel, Real You and Last Waltz in my favorites playlist. Once again (get it?) Twice delivered a masterpiece of an album. Oh, i also want to comment on your rant, even though i don't think i can add a lot because i basically agree with everything you said. I'm more into BTS than you so i can say that the thing you said about Twice also applies to them. Their discography is so diverse, but many people only hear these very mediocre english tracks on the radio and dismiss them immediately. (You really should continue exploring them btw, it's been way too long 😜) As for Blackpink, what can be said about them...ther "full album" had 8 tracks...but we all know how bad they are being handled. And then there is Twice, which like you said many people only associate with the cutesie stuff and that is most definitely not true. It can't be said enough what you said, that people are truly missing out. Just once more, everything you said was on point and i'd love to hear more full on discussions from you.

In terms of favorites, after the first couple of listens i have to admit 1,3,2 wasn't my favorite but i find myself humming that song the most throughout the day and on work. Overall, same as the majority, Rewind, Cactus and Last Waltz are masterpieces. Even though i really like Scientist, Espresso should have been the title track- fight me.

reginamva

Nayeon loves rapping! (she asked Jeongyeon for the rap part in Sweet summer day after she wrote it) and Momo used to rap a lot in their earlier songs so I thought I knew what I was getting at with this sub-unit but still Hello shooked my bones

Daniela Padilla

the only song that really captivated me was cactus, not really a fan of the rest of the songs. In terms of the rapping idk i found it quite cringy but maybe it is juts me.

And yes! You shd totally do video essays on ur livestreams next time! I personally think youd kill it w podcasts too

KpopPrince

Scientist was probably the safest song to use as a title track for this whole album. Whether that was the right choice I'm not sure

KpopPrince

The song is just meant to be fun and silly imo. Ridiculous how hard the beat goes

Chris S

I say this as someone who's never been a massive Twice fan, and their music has tended to be pretty hit-or-miss for me: This album is packed with 100% certified bops from beginning to end. It's easily my favorite Twice album, and one of the best albums I've heard this year. I think they've just convinced me to become a Once.

nva

does anyone else think that his reaction to "cactus" means that he needs to hear "one in a million" aka their iconic emotional power ballad that also serves as a fan-song 🤧

Anonymous

Great album reaction! This is probably my favorite Twice album. I would definitely recommend reacting to the rest of their Japanese comebacks even if it's just a Patreon marathon. There's a lot of quality songs, especially more recently, and the older ones such as Candy Pop are cute and iconic as well. Fun fact, they also have a Japanese song called Fanfare, which is probably why Hello featured that word so much and yet wasn't titled it.

celery

cactus is def giving me church song vibes but its fine its still my fav track loll

redwolf2010TWO

Ask for live stages of subunit songs, and you shall receive soon enough at your NY concert.👍

Hi, just wondering if you happened to have a link available for part 2 of this listening party, or if you would be able to upload a new link if it's not too much trouble. Thank you!

KpopPrince

Does it not work? I'll have to update it. Old Dropbox links tend to just unlink themselves randomly. I hate it

Anonymous

Ah yea unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a link for this post anymore. I only just see the title and then the tags for the post.

KpopPrince

Sometimes dropbox disconnects my old links, give it a try now. Sorry I didn't see this earlier. You can always msg me if it's a problem in the future.
