dude, the way i ran when i got the notif! really glad that you like it. to answer your questions: 1) this was the second round of the 4 preliminaries, of which the first 3 were done the same way -- producers (including suhyun) chose frontmen, who chose their members (random order). the 4th round was self-grouped, and then the final bands were put together, for 2 semifinal and 1 final round. 2) so, none of the bands were formed before the show (or in this episode, yet). some complete bands came in together, but were broken apart basically right at the beginning. for example, woosung was the only one from the rose to make it past auditions. 3) the drummer for this performance didn't make it to the final bands, but the bassist/guitarist are in purple rain. hong isaac, the vocalist, ended up in the finals in a band called mone, the only band from the finals you haven't seen yet (hoppipolla/lucy/purple rain) and the only band that didn't continue as a band after the show. woosung from the rose was also on that team. i might request a couple of the songs they wrote for the show at some point cause they are fun, that team was filled with WILDLY different musical personalities but somehow they made it work

uh i pressed enter too fast so i am continuing my ted talk but basically this is my favorite performance from the show and i'm very pleased to share it with someone !!!! (esp as it basically was scrubbed from the internet after i assume they lost the rights to the song so it's very difficult to show people!!) also i feel very validated that you liked isaac's voice so much because it's also one of my favorites 4) the show was actually relatively well watched (definitely moreso than kingdom, i think) i actually think bands like hoppipolla especially are more palatable to the general community than kpop. bc of lack of subs and international interest more in kpop than kbands it's not well known internationally at all tho 5) they've already started filming for season 2 and it starts airing on june 21 ;) CL is a judge this time (no suhyun tho)! this show was in summer/fall 2019. i am super pumped for superband 2, not sure if there will be subs tho as obviously there weren't any last time except for fansubbers after the fact

I love Superband, and I've never seen any fansubbed versions. I struggled along with the Korean. Where can I find them?

omg i remember this show because woosung is on it too. and they did some amazing covers as well. especially ILYSB which is probably my fav cover of a song ever done by a kpop idol/group. or sign of the times duette with Woosung and Chansol. So sad all the videos were removed off youtube in my country at least. loved the superband performances

Yes, I'm with Beks. I rushed home early from a party to watch this. I loved Superband, and once Beks broke the seal, I'm going to be requesting Superband performances for June. There's a lot of amazing performances to choose from. Superband started with 121 musicians (drummers, percussionists, vocalists, guitarists, violin, saxophone, accordion, and more). They did individual auditions and got it down to 53 before the show began. The first few episodes were individual performances, with the other musicians as the audience. Then they started doing the ad-hoc bands that you saw in this clip. The judges/producers would pick 16 "frontmen" for every round, then the frontmen would pick band members like you saw, like a middle school kickball team. There were a few rounds of that, lots of eliminations, and then they let the remaining musicians form themselves into six bands (Hoppipolla, Lucy, Purple Rain, Mone, Aftermoon, and People Under the Bridge). So, in this band, the frontman was Youngjin, the drummer. He is a huge, loud drummer. He plays double-kick on everything. The guitarist and bassists were also rock players. Then he picks Issac Hong for lead vocals, who had presented as a sensitive singer-songwriter in individual performances prior to that. Superband is full of things like that, where genres get mixed and styles were challenged. Obviously, it worked. I'm so happy that Superband is getting a season 2!

you actually haven't explored much korean music outside mainstream kpop, the bands u know too are kpop, you have so much music content outside that, there are SICK kbands like JANNABI, YB, NELL, BUZZ, SE SO NEON, BOOHWAL, FT ISLAND, CN BLUE among others and all their sounds are unique and wild, not high tone uv seen, it's just that they have more local fanbases, but they're not all that under rated in the korean market, just like u, korea has its rock lovers and thats prolly why this show was more popular than kingdom in korea, international recognition is low due to the lack of subs on this stuff since they don't make an effort to interact like that unlike idols excuse me... i'll be going to watch this show now :D

Ha so I joined your patreon yesterday and am going over some of your posts and came across this gem... Man, I absolutely loved watching Superband, honestly too bad I couldn't find it subbed so I just went with the flow and enjoyed the performances! There were so many good artists there (I actually learned about Superband because of LUCY), and some performances were just absolutely epic. All of LUCY's stages, Gwangil's first appearance as a drummer, the science teacher's stages where he sang about Mass x Acceleartion xD And having Joe Hahn from Linkin Park as one of the judges just made it even more epic. I wish more people knew about this masterpiece.

Also Isaac (the singer in this video) has released some great OST songs, Ruin from Strangers from Hell drama is one of my favorites!

There are subtitled episodes available thanks to the work of fans. I highly recommend it
