Metroidvania World: Youkai Captains/ Evil Bosses (Patreon)

I'm designing a world where spirits live together with the humans. Think Inu-Yasha and Mushishi altogether. Spirits are the source of magic, supernatural phenomena and all the divine interference with the reality.

 Spirits do exist as the smallest particles of life, floating all around and intersecting with the material world. Big lumps of spirits form spiritual life forms, from the simplest bacteria-like, to the greatest immortal sentient beings.  God and youkais are spiritual too. As well as a human soul.

Simple spirits can not posses humans, because of the soul protection, and a soul being more complex and strong than lesser spirits in general. But higher forms, like evil ghosts, can posses people in some occasion.

Generally, people can't see spirits without special traits or training.

So ends the introduction. On the image you can see four youkai captains: Beuda, Gogat, Fehl and Gile. They can cause a great destruction upon human kingdoms when any of them descends into the human realm.

In future, I plan to develop visuals for all the aspects of the new world. From towns to monsters. And from social institutions to spiritual manifestations.
