avast detects "trojan" in the file..... is the file secure?

Otis_Inf

Yes, it's a false positive. Some virusscanners use machine learning to detect patterns (like 'this code injects another dll into a process' or 'this code changes a process') and what my code does to change the running game code to inject the camera logic is sadly what they trip over.

Anonymous

Which DLL is the one to Inject (out of the four ones included)? Nothing happens in the game with any, the tool program also shows "Not connected Not connected" at the bottom left. I'm a bit confused, what can I do there? ((Both MHW and the tool run as admin, the process shows MHW, and all appears to go well but no function affects the game))

Otis_Inf

Please read the readme.txt file. You have to install anti-cheat removal mods, and you have to click 'Inject dll' after you run the game + the igcsclient. It's good to wait till the menu appears as otherwise the game engine isn't initialized properly.

Issue was CameraTools DLL file disappearing constantly even after taking it out of Window quarantine for no reason. Apologies, thanks a lot.

Otis_Inf

Sigh, yeah windows defender can be problematic about this... :( I wish I had a solution for these false positives other than providing a debug build

takal

Tried to use this today. Said the cameratools.dll was a virus. Scanner says its a trojan. Trojan:Win32/Phonzy.A!ml. No idea what happened. I dled it straight from the link here. Also redownloaded it and said the same thing.

Otis_Inf

Virusscanners use machine learning/AI (the !ml is the indication of that) and try to guess if something is 'evil'. As my tools change the code of the game process at runtime using windows specific functions, it sometimes triggers virusscanners that they think the tools do something malicious. The patterns then 'suggest' it it's malware of some kind, but this isn't true, it's a false positive.

I can't even download it! Edge Chrome Opera wont let me. I have to do a registry edit? or can I have help

Otis_Inf

No, you should be able to download it without problems. It gives a false positive on the virusscan or something?

Freystein

Outstanding, Frans. I've been hoping for a long time that there will be a decent camera tool for World at some point availaible, since the Ingame Camera Mode is barebones at best.

Freystein

After I've recently been playing World again for a long time, I wanted to try out this camera tool and unfortunately the game crashes far too often immediately after I've injected the dll and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Both mods are installed correctly, starting the IGSC client with and without admin rights has no effect. Tried it several times with different window settings (windowed, fullscreen, HDR and borderless window) with and without reshade, with and without mods, fresh install from world but in most crashes, the dll injection freezes shortly the screen and immediately goes back to the desktop. Sometimes, for weird reasons, the Camera Tool can sometimes injected without problems but before that happens, there is quite a lot of Trial and Error required

Otis_Inf

I'm sorry to hear that, I've seen people use it without problems, but it's crucial that the two mods do their work to disable the anti cheat. If the game picks up the dll somehow or the anti cheat isn't properly disabled the game crashes.

Freystein

Thanks for the reply Frans. It is strange that this camera tool unfortunately only works unreliably for me. I've already had it a few times that the injection worked smoothly the first time and then the next time the game is started, there is only one crash after the other. I'm also completely at a loss as to what could be causing problems, since I'm now running out of troubleshooting. I've also tried unplugging the gamepad and closing unnecessary processes in Task Manager, but unfortunately that didn't help much either.

Otis_Inf

Try to inject as late as possible, like when you've loaded your save file, and tools like afterburner might interfere. The tools only work when the mods have done their job, so injecting the camera before they do that might result in crashes... (at least that's what I can think of). Sorry for this inconvenience... :(

Freystein

Speaking of Afterburner/Riva Tuner, it certainly was the main culprit of the crashes after i figured out myself.... sigh. So, if anyone should have the same problem like me, please deactivate RTSS/Afterburner before you inject the Camera Tool, otherwise the game will crash constantly.

Otis_Inf

hmm, ok. I thought afterburner could only crash the tools if the game used dx12... Glad it is at least sorted, somewhat.

Freystein

I'm not entirely sure if Afterburner alone is responsible for the crashes or the RIva Tuner Overlay (which is a requirement for Aferburner), but since the two tools interact with each other, there should be somewhat a conflict. However, the camera tools for World working fine as it should be and as long as both AB and RTSS are deactivated for safety reasons, there shouldn't be any issues.

Otis_Inf

It's the RTSS system (the overlay), as that's the component that hooks into all running programs. So indeed the riva tuner overlay (or whatever it's called :) )

hello, kaspersky detected 'trojan.win32.agent.xaplwl' in 'monsterhunterworldcameratools.dll'

Otis_Inf

False positive, some virusscanners think that if the code hooks into another process and overwrites code it's automatically a virus but it's the way things like camera tools work to manipulate the game. I'll recompile it and reupload it later today, that usually makes the false positive go away.

Otis_Inf

I've uploaded a new build. Virustotal says 10 out of 62 virusscanners find there's something wrong (but funny enough, all different things) but the more important once like Microsoft, kaspersky etc. don't find anything wrong.

Thanks for the clarification. Will you be doing MH rise in the future?

Otis_Inf

No, that's currently not in the cards. There are tools which can give you a camera tho: https://framedsc.com/GameGuides/mhrise.htm
