This journal contains gay romance spoilers for Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age Inquisition and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Games with gay romances are great and Kings Journal will move them into the spotlight.
Each journal will present three romances. Yes - I plan a series of connected journals.

Mass Effect 3 - John Separd and Kaidan Alenko

In Mass Effect 3 players can experience a fully developed and well written romance between commander John Shepard and his long time crew mate Kaidan Alenko (if he survives the events in ME1).
While earth and the whole solar system are under attack John tries to find a way to save earth and his allies, but during the first mission Kaidan is hurt badly.
Fortunately he survives and between your missions you can visit him in hospital, bring him a present and have some personal conversations. If John manages to earn Kaidans trust, he joins your crew again and you can enjoy his company in your battle team, on your space ship and in private time for example eating a sandwich together and confessing your feelings for each other. That's a great moment in the game, because you really think it is just about some casual lunch together and suddenly Kaidan, who is kinda shy, tells you about his romantic interest in you - John.
If you reciprocate his feelings you become a couple and the night before the final battle Kaidan visits your quarters and shows you that he is not always shy. He pushes John on his bed and they start kissing and a gentle "who is on top" game. They only wear some black underwear and later you see them cuddling nude in bed together to sleep.

But at the final moments of Mass Effect 3 John commands Kaidan to stay behind to save his life. The scene is heartbreaking and depending on your choices during the game you can unlock a secret ending, showing Kaidan refusing to put Johns name at the death memorial board in the space ship and a second scene hinting Johns survival.

In Mass Effect 3 I experienced my first gay romance, officially created by developers, in a game and so far I consider it as one of the best and probably still the best gay romance in games.
Fun Fact: Thanks to Mass Effect I think Canada is full of hot guys like Kaidan and John and James...

Dorian Pavus - Dragon Age Inquisition

Dorian is a mage from Tevinter, a land ruled by mages. He joins the inquisitor to close the "rifts" opening gates to the "ghost/demon world".
You are the inquisitor (character customization) and you live in a kingdom, where mages are feared and locked in dark vaults. If you choose te be a mage, too - like I did - most people will distrust you. But who cares, when you can cast fire, thunderbolts or blizzards.
"Go snowflakes, kill that dragon!"

Dorian has a natural talent for necromancy and he is cynical, educated, proud, self-confident and passionate. He is gay and tells you openly, that he enjoys spending time with you.
During a special mission you can meet his father who tried to make Dorian straight with dark rituals, because he could not accept a gay son. It is horrible and totally understandable why Dorian left his home.
Actually Dorian has no idea about love among men. He had sex with several men before he escaped, but in his homeland such relations are not considered as real relationships - just fun - nothing long lasting.
But with the inquisitor he discovers love for real, caring about each other and what it means, when someone loves you and stays at your side instead of leaving you alone after a one night stand.
Dorian tells you about his lack of experience regarding love right after you had sex with him and he is nude and you can see his cute butt.
Of course Dorian is more than just his cute butt and you and him can be a couple.

In a DLC, that can be considered as the real ending of the game, Dorian tells you, that his father died and as his only heir he will return home to change things for good.
He gives you a magical pendant to communicate with you even when he is far away and maybe the inquisitor secretly visits him...

Alexios and Thaletas - Assassin's Creed Odyssey

I wrote a journal about AC Odyssey and was a bit sad about the lack of a real romance, but I was wrong: I found a real gay romance, that is very nice.

At the islands of Delos and Mykonos you can join two rebels: A woman called Kyra and a man called Thaletas. Actually they are a couple and you could either romance him or her, but the only basic for their love is hatred against their enemies and that is no solid base for love in my opinion - so I started flirting with Thaletos who is a skilled soldier and he gave me several demanding tasks to deserve his trust and later his love.

Although he is a brilliant warrior and enjoys Alexios company who is a skilled mercenary, Thaletos has a softer, gentle side.
He invites Alexios to a coast, but Thaletos is not there, just a trail of flowers leads up a mountain... At its end Thaletos awaits you. He is unsure if those flowers were a bad idea and he seems a bit ashamed of it claiming those flowers were there on the island and he just plucked some. Alexios tells him, that he likes the idea and after a conversation both want more than talking, but Thaletos does not like the location and wants Alexios to follow him to an old temple ruin, where he usually trains alone.
But Thaletos does not undress. He wants to fight with you. Warrior against warrior and when you win he and Alexios kiss and love each other. That's manly love.

The next scene shows Alexios getting up between Thaletos legs who sits relaxed on a temple wall. Alexios is skilled with swords so I guess Thaletos enjoyed a nice blowjob.

Alexios and Thaletos promise to spend their lifes with each other, when war is over and they kiss again while the sun kisses the horizon at dusk.

The whole romance is heartwarming and the battle against Thaletos caught me off guard.
He and Alexios make a good couple and I hope I will be able to make them and their love survive that war.

I hope you enjoyed this journal about gay romances in games and maybe you look forward to the next issue.
Tell me in the comments about your opinion.
Do you know the games and guys I wrote about?
Are you interested in bara art showing them?
Should an issue focus on one romance only or are three fine?

I also like how Dorian and iron bull become a couple if you choose to romance neither

Great journal! These romances are really nice and good to know there is a more deep one on Odyssey, looking foward to see it~ John and Kaidan are really lovely together, they even have on the archives of the games a romance of them on the first game that was scraped (It's kinda annoying because on ME1 there is lesbian romance, but not gay ones.) And would be always great to see bara art of all these characters! =D Also, wow that is a beautiful scene with the sun light of Alexios and Thaletas!

I strongly recommend you to create a single save file before you start with the quests for Thaletos, because the events on the silver islands are very connected and one mistake can be critical. I replayed six hours to change my mistakes. -_- Kaidan and John are a great couple. I wish they would do a ME4 with them as the main characters. Regarding lesbian love I think it is not really made for true lesians, but used to attract (brainless) straight men who get lost in cheasy female x female fantasies. Hm... What about John and Kaidan as Canadian space cowboys?! :3

Joseph

Thanks for the warning, gonna keep track of my save file! Oh yeah, I'm sure the lesbian love is for these kind of people, and not to the representation itself. =/ Yesss for them as space cowboys!! =D
