Whoo god! Diving into the deep end on this one. It hits so hard. Amazing movie. Fun fact: the first time I watched this movie, I actually watched it with a white supremacist. He cheered for all the most disgusting parts. It was quite an experience.

I have watched a few films over the years that have made me physically ill - this is one of them. I think it may have been because Norton's portrayal is so believable. I don't think I have it in me to watch this movie at the moment, but I will definitely be sure to check out the Youtube version to see Cass' intro and outro. I'm curious to hear her thoughts and see what my fellow Patrons post here in the discussion thread

You're killing it with the choice of movies lately, Cass! Totally agree with your analysis at the end. Speaking of scenes that really stick out in one's mind, I remember watching it a few years after it came out and found the scene where they are pouring various stuff on the woman's face in the grocery store to be really hard to watch. That moment combined with the music and slow motion shots is gut wrenching.

I find myself thinking of "Arlington Road" with Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins. As to "American History X"... yes I saw it once. It seemed to have served it's purpose and I have no need to see it again.

I agree so much with a couple of the previous posts that commented on how this is a movie you really don’t WANT to watch again. I’d forgotten just how sick it made me feel originally and only cared to watch it to sync with your reactions. Not happy about the returning to those feelings, many which have been too regularly pulled to the surface IRL through the news in the last few years. I AM glad to have been able to watch it “with” you however as your responses not only usually mirror my own. And your outro seems to ALWAYS be on point and demonstrate what an intelligent, caring and wonderful soul you are. It’s always a delight to “go to the movies” with Cass....even when the movie turns out to be one YOU would not choose for yourself. For further Edward Norton viewing I like your mother’s choice of Rounders from 1998 as it’s much lighter while still great acting and still very dramatic. Just not nearly as ‘heavy’ or disturbing. Dealing with underground high stakes poker AND having Matt Damon as EN’s buddy. For high stakes poker I’d also HIGHLY recommend Molly’s Game with Jessica Chastain. While back to a more emotional and perhaps ‘heavy’ movies is Norton’s first movie, I believe, from 1996 Primal Fear with Richard Gere. After seeing the young EN in THAT movie I was convinced he was going to leave memorable roles in his filmography.....even though some ‘kids’ can get to be twenty something without knowing WHO he is. And it sounded like your Mom is well aware to have suggested Rounders.....not even a really BIG one of his flicks. I guess growing up most of his movies probably ARE adult content thus limiting your movie years. It’s good to see that you can not only expand your video library but create great content also. Hopefully too many of these type of draining movies won’t harden you to suggestions.

My older brother showed me this film. This film really resonates for me in so many ways, because my brother was always my role model/hero. It's a powerful statement on racism. Spike Lee's DO THE RIGHT THING is also a powerful, classic movie about a black neighborhood in Brooklyn; it says so much about how race and prejudice is always right below the surface, and how it can unexpectedly explode. ROUNDERS is a fun movie, pretty much every movie Edward Norton made between 1996 and 1999 is untouchable.
