hehejade

are you not gonna react to the special ep?

sanitizerr

i think you also have to consider the voting points which could change the rankings, it has not been added to the final scores they showed so

sanitizerr

also the trailer is on youtube if you want to check it out :>

My Favorite for MEGA CREW MISSION are both MANNEQUEEN and 1MILLION. I watched all the videos when it came out and gosh both teams got me speechless, I think MANNEQUEEN got me hype the most, it's even better without the cuts. I will not lie to you, I think they should have got higher when it's come to score because in my opinion, since I watched all the MEGA CREW, they are definitely TOP2. I saw a lot of others people not agreeing about the low score they got. I will be honest I wish Yoonji would have got a much higher score because the first part got me shock. The ochestra idea also remind me when Yoonji during a battle was using a ruban but it broke so she improvised by acting like a condutor so I'm curious if it's inspired her. I can get why Funky_Y got a low score if the krump part don't suit them but I personally loved it (I mean I wanted Buckey to krump so I was super happy). Adding, I think using Winter/Spella to bring everything back together was smart as well and worked. I also get not liking seeing the people behind or going into formation but honestly it didn't bother me that much. One thing I love in MANNEQUEEN MEGA CREW is definitely the diversity of genre and I love the fact they wanted to show that it can go together well. Also loved that you can see their differents genre with the clothing. Both Funky_Y and REDLIC are choreography so wearing red/black , Cera/Wackxxxy/Yoonji for Waacking (red) and Buckey for Krump (black) + if you pay attention, even if Buckey is in total black you still have the touch of red with the Bandana, same for Funky_Y/REDLIC they both wore red/black to refer to the others members genres They didn't mention it when talking about Stella (the one dancing with Winter), she do tutting but also did the choreography for Naughty (Seulgi/Irene) You might have heard about Buckey because of comments. I'm not sure if I mentionned it in a past comment but Buckey is a founder member of MONSTER WOO FAM (krump crew). You know some formers members of this crew : Monika, Trix, Knucks, 2Face (all three in PRIME KINGZ), Roh Taehyun, Pyoungya, E. JO and Duck. (EODDAE). Fun fact : Buckey scouted Monika

wow this is why i love you guys! i learn so much! i honestly wouldn’t know anything about this industry without comments like this! thank u!

Although I agree that the overall end product of dip n dap and mannequeen were much better than jam republic’s, the judges decision to give the concept points to jam republic over dip n dap as they explained had nothing to do with the circumstances that they experienced during the mission but rather it was how they utilized and interacted with the the outdoor space in comparison to dip n dap that used the outdoor space as a backdrop.

not sure i’ll have the time tbh. i wish i knew it was the ep last week prior to using my swf timeframe to film and edit the smoke challenge reaction. the special ep wasn’t on the swf 2 playlist i was looking at on viu that’s why i missed it. and i knew a lot more people are looking forward to the mega crew mission reaction so i didn’t wanna use my swf timeframe this week for the special ep. we’ll see- it’s not a hard no.

jeffavenue

yes their reason for that makes sense - i think i added that in somewhere in this reaction iirc

emma

They weren't called out in the episode but Amazon was in 1M's performance at the start of Harimu's section (when she's center after the waterfall down the stairs) Also Spella is the leader (or director?) of bloeshu, the tutting crew Sung Hanbin was in

eve_ss

Just to share, SPELLA (the one who danced with Winter) was actually the one who choreographed Seulgi and Irene's "NAUGHTY" performance. Still iconic to this day 🔥If I'm not mistaken, she's also Sung Hanbin's tutting teacher. Another fun fact: I'm not sure if you still remember it was from years ago lmaooo. I just found out that the one who danced with TEN in one of his HIT THE STAGE perf was WACKXXXY. They did a partner dance. 👏 It was soooo good! I was schocked when I found it out. No wonder she looks so familiar! Lol

rum

And Spella is also Hanbin's dance teacher (Waacking and Tutting) 😋 She posted a IG post to support him when the boys planet and Amazing Saturday aired!

I think the cuts and transitions are the director's choice? I'm not sure as well. I agree that it's the camera angle that's why they can see the dancers going in and out. but I think what the judges are saying is that it is part of the directing on what angle the camera will be taking. just my thought. :)

Also, Jam Republic said that they were going to film on the beach and hills. So, having cuts and transitions were going to be used anyways. And you can see 1MILLION utilizing cuts and close ups in their performance as well, especially transitioning to Redy's part. They zoomed in her enough where you can see the stars move, but not the people moving it.

I also likes 1mill and MQ over Jam Republic. Kirsten and the girls are really talented but didn't wow me that much. Also as a korean I like DeepandDap concept but is a overused concept for us in my opinion so there was also not a wow moment for me. 1mill did a much more smart and subtle way to show us the flag and a korean concept. For me it was sad that 1mill and MQ had to compete with each other cuz I really loved the lotus idea and the orchestra idea.

jeffavenue

ya i actually wondered about this while i was editing. cause i was thinking the directing aspect was only for the dance overall, not the editing part cause that would mean that the dancers would sit in the editing room with the editors. but they never really specified. cause if so then yes i can see why it was a lost opportunity to cut those transitions out if it was going to lose them points

jeffavenue

ooo i was wondering if amazon would be in it! amazon is SO GOOD huhuhu i badly wanted hanbin in this mission (whichever crew) and he’s from an mnet show so i thought it was gonna happen but it doesn’t look like it 🥺

hehejade

If you have some spare time i really recommend that special ep. There is way less drama there and more dancing, plus they showed clips where Shownu actually talked LOL

sushiracey

Just to add on the video production, although mnet makes the final edit, it's actually the lead director who decides on what angles to use for a particular segment/part and the members check each cuts after then the leader decides ultimately which cut to use so it's understandable while Funky Y was given a low score since she may have overlooked that whereas those leaders with more video production experience are able to see those kinds of things. As far as cuts are concerned they are allowed to do those and it's the group's decision if they'll do it in one take style or use different cuts. So I really think decision making from the leaders are very important for this mission which is evident on how Lia's decision making led to 1 millions seamless transitions by using the right cuts and angles.

Jay

lol why did they even bring shownu if hes gonna appear for like less than 30 seconds

hehejade

For the Jam vs DeepNDap match: Jam is really unlucky this time, I did expect too much for the perfect scenery with outdoor venue and people. It's just that all the bad things happen at one time. The took time from travel between 2 country, come up with the concept and filling people. It's like they have to restructure their performance twice, 01 for changing the whole concept and story due to changing venue, 01 for degrade all transition and image due to lack of people. 1 plus point is that, we can feel that they're really utilize the place well, the place became a part of their performance, it's like a prop for them. The meaning of each part of the stadium to each part. I think that why the judge let them have extra 100. DeepNDap have a thorough concept from the beginning. I kind of understand Aiki comment for the better start, cause I watch many traditional type performance from Korea, China, there are many start with the drum like that. For them, the palace is kind of a backdrop, except for a little bit of the star when they play drum on the stair just to have a higher position, they did not utilize their most advantage. For 1Million vs Mannequeen: Mannequeen, they go beyond my expectation. They did a very well done, spectacular performance, they have the story, the image, the transition, the clean synchronization, the dance skill, they highlight each guests part and also made the team themselves eye-catching enough. They show the mixture of elegant and power, classic and modern, underground and mainstream. They really show the power of woman without any male dancer. I love their performance the most in this mission. 1Million did what they do best. The ideal is insane. By the way, the way the reveal the performance with traditional concept maybe is what AIKI expect from DeepNDap. I think 1Million did the traditional concept better than DeepNDap even when they do not have any palace ''back drop'' to enhance the ancient feeling. I just wish that they have more time to synchronize and details than that would be a perfect perf. And one thing for me is that I cannot see the main team member well in this perf, they highlight the overall perf, not the individual, except for the flower part, and Lia revealing part, I could not see other due to the grand of the people.

Waiting for RIIZE 🦦

1mil also had cuts in theirs

Iman

omg jungkook just dropped a performance video for his new single featuring jam republic!

At the end of the video, the video in which One Million received the center right is a dance trailer video uploaded before the program was aired👇 https://youtu.be/syN5tDcTBwA?si=tL2dP_LBChVR9PaP There's a behind-the-scenes video too, but no caption...

I think as a whole, in terms of choreo, I also think Deep N Dap did better. But i can understand the final score in terms of how it fits in the mission. Regarding the directing score, I think each director of the groups got a say on how things are cuts and transition and also how things are shot. They might not be sitting with an editor but if they have a vision on what exactly they want to show in the choreo at which point and how they want to change things up and who they want to focus on, how they want the camera to move, etc., the film crew will do what they envision. I bet they can be as specific or generic as they want. I think if they don't have specific input, they will just get a wide shot from the front. The reason why I'm pretty sure on this is because - 1. you can see that Jam republic planned all their transition within the choreo. Some of it might have been on the spot but unless the film crew for their video decide to work over time for some reason, each transition between parts played into how the choreo look and add a lot of oomph to their final product. Esp with Kirsten's and Emma's. The scarf transition and the moving shots and all that are just so well timed and add a lot to their choreo. There's lots of intentional individual camera focus parts in the choreo as well. 2. if we think back to the class mission challenge, Latrice literally have the camera work in mind as she choreographed. On the day, she and Kirsten was deciding how certain shots look all that as well. I would imagine this is a similar situation. In this one, since the score specifically grade them on their direction of their individual parts which would include both the choreo and how their section is shot, that would make sense why Jam republic score for directing is higher than the other crews. This is where Kirsten and Jam republic experience with their dance culture gave them an advantage. All the other crews could have done the same. However, since they're not used to music video shoots direction & using camera work to enhance choreo in the same way they do in the west (smt I learned from you!), the other crews probably didn't think of using the camera work to their advantage. They directed the camera from the choreo, like if there's a shape & imagery they want to show in the choreo by looking from above, or one person focus, etc. They probably just communicate that to the film crew and that's all. Meanwhile, Jam Republic used the camera work to enhance their choreo and therefore, in terms of video directing, they were much smarter and more intentional and because of that they were able to make their numbers & location issue less noticeable and even use the location to their advantage. THAT SAID, ... lol is this a dance competition or a film directing competition. I wish they had made a clear % of how much the choreo points count and how much the direction count..... Like each person in the group get a max score of 400, 300 for choreo & 100 for video direction; or 200 for choreo & 200 for directing. To just call it a direction/directing score makes it confusing to judge, because yes in terms of overall directing, Jam republic was a lot smarter with it as DIRECTORS. However, as an overall DANCE performance, I think everyone else did better... and is this not a DANCE competition?... This directing score is also seen as the judges score overalll... so It feels more fair for the dance to be more important. It's a bit ridiculous for MQ to technically has a lower direction/judge's score with that masterpiece, compare to JR. I love JR but no...

1Million totally deserved their spot, but I agree Jam Republic was ranked too high. I am glad every time you mention how much SMF sucked that I dropped the show halfway through.
