jeffavenue

i’d like to check out yes! but probably not the whole episode. i might just react to lucas’ segments (if it would make sense still).

Hi Jeff, Min jung participated in dancing high and the first season of produce 101.

I heard that JYP allows their idols to date after two years after their debut (but I don't know that this is still the situation)

jiminycricket

on the topic of Johnny, i think he officially became a trainee full time in 2013 (which is after EXO's debut). prior to that he was just spending his high school summers training for 4 years. why he says even though he was a trainee for 8 years, the allotted time was less than that.

I loved watching this with you :) I've been into kpop for more than 10 years now and I see that it's really hard to squeeze all of the kpop history into such short videos but I think they did a pretty good job I'm into graphic design and video editing so maybe the plugin you're talking about for skin smoothing is magic bullet from red giant

For Hansol, I think something happened and he was forbidden to debut with NCT. He was still in SM when Johnny debuted but he stayed as a dancer. He ultimately left SM

For the Dating it's better now but I think it's also depending on the maturity of the fandom and how the idols talk to the fans. The things like "you are my gf" or "I will marry you" makes everything hard for some idols. I'll give the example of Sungmin from Super Junior. There was a lot of things and misunderstanding for his case when he got married. But I think the real reason is that the "delulu" fans believed him when he said that he was not going to get married and that they are his gf, basically few months before getting married. It's not realistic to believe them when they say smth like that but hmmm. But when the news came out about Heechul dating Momo and after that about Ryeowook dating Ari, the fandom reacted very well and congratulate them a lot. Heechul for example always told us to not invest a lot in him and that our own life is the most important thing. He also used to say that being an idol is just his job and that he has private life. He also talked about his ex gfs many times on tv so it helps his fans to grow and become mature

Hi Jeff! Thanks for reacting to this kpop docu series I always learn a lot from you :) Also, I wasn’t sure where to make requests, but since next month will be SHINee’s 13th anniversary, I was wondering if it’d be possible to react to more of their live performances :D Sherlock https://youtu.be/M4pINahBoRY Stranger https://youtu.be/WXKRiAHzvi0 Like a fire https://youtu.be/oDrWHvhuLxc Selene 6.23 https://youtu.be/cZVWo2F3iao IU Dear name cover by SHINee https://youtu.be/F5YmLkh8nV4 SOLOS Onew https://youtu.be/HPECeB2cAvM Jonghyun https://youtu.be/IPOldqNcI6w Key https://youtu.be/CBouMUgf-MM Minho https://youtu.be/UsIg9FPYg4A Taemin https://youtu.be/ZGR8Xs1Jllk This is a lot I know hahaha, so don’t feel pressured if you can’t react to them or all of it, totally understandable! Thank you :)

jeffavenue

ohh i see. so was he supposed to debut with exo or no? i was told he was supposed to i’m confused 😂

jeffavenue

yes definitely depending on the fandoms 100%. i think it’s good that members like you mentioned were able to instil that kind of relationship with their fan base. hopefully it keeps getting better as the industry goes on!

WayV were asked on a live if they are allowed to date and they said there is no dating ban , they have just been asked to be discreet ! :)

I would love for you to react to Idol Producer, which is basically the Chinese ver. of Produce 101. The Chinese ver. has Lay of EXO, Jackson of Got7, Cheng Xiao of Cosmic Girls, and Jieqiong of the disbanded group Pristin as mentors. Thank you! I enjoy your reactions a lot.

i really like to see the whole process and imagine how many things going on for the one album like producing and arranging songs, write lyrics, make a choreo, do hairstyles, styling, makeup, sets, decorations, photos, editing, montages, filming and more and more of this i really appreciate the staff but fans always mad at these people

Joanne Elizabeth

even tho there was a lot of talk about being the perfect idol there , i have seen all my biases on insta lives or V lives with no make up , sometimes with pimple patches , sometimes with eye bags , i've heard them fart and talk about very non glamorous things LOL so even tho that show was correct in terms of MVs etc , really it also wasn't balanced in talking about how idols nowadays do show their real selves on their social media , and honestly it just makes us fans love them more

RisingSunbebe

I just started watching, but when it comes to monthly evaluations as far as I know it's usually one group song and then also another solo - to show the skill you're best at (or what your position in the group eventually would be) - usually singing or rapping, I don't think they do another dance performance solo. So they're supposed to practice both with a group and alone. At least that's what it was like in every survival show I watched.

On the NDA's thing, I know for a fact that anyone who dates idols, whether they are an idol themselves or a "normal" person they MUST sign NDA's. If an idol pushes to keep their relationship (even if their contract allows it, they usually get pushed to breakup with their partner as the first resort and the idol has to push back to keep the relationship), that's when the NDA's come out with terms for a continuous relationship. If they're forced to breakup, the NDA's come out with terms for the past events of the relationship to avoid future messes. Also, I always hate when it's a thing to get angry over an NDA, like damn I'd sign one in a heartbeat knowing what all idols have to go through to keep their images "clean." It's such bullshit and it'd be nice to have the NDA there to kind of hide behind when people start pressuring you for details of your own private relationship, even if you're not the famous one! (And I know this all because a friend of a friend actually dated an idol, no idea on specifics and it's defs not my place to know.)

tw dieting/body image/ed discussion: I think the biggest thing to remember about the performance world is the need to look the best always. It's not exclusive to kpop but sometimes I think people forget that in western countries because of the way bodies are marketed differently and beauty standards are different. For instance, I personally struggle with body image issues as an actor because the "type" I often get casted in when acting is like the woman in power role, whatever that may be for the production. But part of that role implies the need to look like the perfect female body type so me not having a perfectly flat stomach or skinny arms is an issue. But, nowadays at least I don't have to worry about my thighs because my more muscular thighs are actually something that is currently considered "sexy" by mainstream beauty standards. However, I also experience this as a white woman which is a whole other thing than literally any other woman who is not white experiences and that definitely feeds into this issue in the kpop world. So with these idols, I always think we need to look at the ed issues, dieting culture, and the body image issues through a more specific lens. I think that the western fans like to put our views on to that specific genre of problems when we really do not know what it's like to be living and growing up in the eastern culture. ESPECIALLY when gender comes in to play as well. Because something a lot of kpop fans don't consider or at least discuss is the fact that male kpop idols are forced into diet culture and some have even developed ed's but can't acknowledge it because the world doesn't seem to believe that men suffer from this as well. Basically, this isn't an issue that we can solve or even just discuss in a day, I just wanted to add my thoughts on it here for anyone/everyone to take a look at and start to think about it, especially as a fan of these idols.

eric actually trained for 2 years, the month situation he talked about on kdbk was about the company seeing space for improvement before selecting him as a permanent trainee, but chenle and shotaro trained for 2/3 months each and olivia hye from loona trained for only ONE DAY so there's some long cases like jihyo from twice (10 years) seulgi (7 years) but the average time stays around 2 to 4 years

You gotta remember....Chen is over 25 and got so much hate from getting married and having a baby. He had to do it in secret!

when you mentioned dance covers, i felt something inside me go off. i've witnessed people and friends practice for months and months on end, kpop dancing is becoming more popular and most universities now have kpop dance teams, and there are uk competitions for these university dance crews and groups to compete by dancing choreos. i feel like there are so many considerations that are never taken into account though, both as someone who has been in kpop for 5 years, and witnessed this side of things for 4 years. when crews that upload on youtube, or singular person does a cover, i think most of the time its very easy for everyone to forget that it's self taught. these idols also have first hand teaching, training, they cna always ask for details or be told, and practice with all the equipment they need to make it as amazing as the outcome is. everyone else is teaching themselves, having to learn by analysing the dance practice or at times, a full cam stage. for example, i know some uni kpop groups get more funding, and they have better more suitable things like mirrors, a real basic that we never had. we could never have a studio because the cost was expensive and the only one there was, was at the gym so it;d be like saving for a year to book it for a few hours sometime near the competition. some unis have the luxury of having studios, or somewhere where they can actually practice. majority of practices for us were on carpet, in rooms that were barely big enough for 7 people to fit in. it was hard enough to book the stage for example. in the end at those competitions, the difference between our uni were we had nothing to those who had at least one necessity was so different in the way the performances were, because we never could practice with mirrors and relied so heavily on filming practices. so i think its a really difficult thing because a lot of groups who do covers can somehow have a studio, have someone to help them film well, can buy outfits, all to make the cover look great.

2021-08-05 14:43:37 It’s more how he told the fans the news than the actual news. Big Bang’s Taeyang, TVXQ’s Changmin received so much support from their fans when they announced their dating&marriage. Not saying that the hate Chen got is okay, but there are ways to carefully, respectively tell your fans but apparently Chen didn’t make those choices.

But isn’t that another part of treating someone like they aren’t human.....like you own them? I understand they have the image to uphold but at the same time it’s weird to make a grown man tell you he has a personal life in a specific way....almost like they have to get permission first. He just didn’t tell announce it to the public the right way so it wasn’t ok? That’s so weird to me. But of course cultures and customs are different

loiiii

True. I guess ppl would be mad either way. But i also want to add that it might be a cultural difference (like you said). Because korea has a more collective minded culture, the fans view the news as “hurting EXO’s image” as a group. As you said an idol has a certain image and the fans think that ppl might view EXO as old, behind their prime, etc and that the haters will attack the group for those reasons. Because they treasure EXO more than Chen as an individual. It could be the collective mind, but i personally think the fans just don’t want what they supported and cheered for so long(EXO) to change and fade away. Either way they aren’t respecting Chen as an individual. But it’s a double edged sword for an idol. When you’re part of a super-supported popular group, the group may come first.

really random but it’s kinda similar to how people treat Kai and baek for being in superm. they don’t support them just bc it’s not exo and it’s sick. if you were a real fan you’d support them in anything they do and stop being so selfish. that means solo projects, projects on the side and their personal life(which is really none of their business in the first place but lol)
