The Unit and the winners at the end have a really special place in my heart and reliving these moments are truly wonderful! BTW, I love how you often unintentionally pause with Taemin. LOL

T-ara situation was really bad. During that scandal they were at their prime. They were as famous 2ne1 and SNSD as my opinion. But when that bullying scandal came out it was hard for them to get back and also new generation started it was even harder. However, I'm happy that some members have their own career now. Some are acting, some are still promoting and some move on an start their own life outside the showbiz.

You mentioned that nothing came of the final group from this show, but I think you may be confusing it with MixNine (which you should also react to). They picked a final group, but they never debuted or released anything beyond the show. The final groups from The Unit, especially the boy group, released MV's and some singles/mini-albums. 😉

Maybe a little talk about the idols that were in this first episode : So for one of the girlsgroup they didn't show : BRAVE GIRLS. They are actually in the same company as BIGSTAR (disbanded now) and the new rookie group DKB. Just like BIGSTAR, the CEO seemed to have forgot them and put them aside, after a long time with nothing they finally did a comeback this year with WE RIDE. So Areum, T-ARA were so popular back in the day. Explosion of popularity with ROLY POLY (maybe you even know the song), this was a hit. Unfortunately, they had scandal about bullying and it was so hard for them to get back as before. Hwayoung an ex-member completely lied to the public telling that the members of T-ARA bullied her, they got a lot of hate when at the end, the trust came to light and they literally did nothing. Not too long ago Hwayoung had the gut to appear in Masked Singer, the Knetizens didn't go easy on her at all For A.C.E, actually when Jun and Chan were here, the others members were in MIXNINE. It's always annoying when they talk about the hot pants. The topic comeback everytime, the others members even had the same question though Donghun just put YG in his place saying his group WINNER did the same 😂 The show really worked great for Jun (U-Kiss), he had so many news opportunities with this especially acting. Just for information, this man can sing, dance and rap so everything Jiwon, seeing her was a pleasure. I was a fan of SPICA when they were still active as a group. Their vocals honestly were just insane. I don't have others things to say about the others candidates, I know all of them but not all theirs histories. Actually don't be surprise but some candidats are much older than the mentor or even train with them and have the same age The next episode is the emotional one normaly

What I like the most about The Unit is the atmosphere, more friendly and less evil editing. When it comes to competition/stages, it's very exciting to watch because most of them were like already pro so it was intense! :) Btw, the first audition song "Into The New World" is the legendary debut song <2007> of Girls' Generation :) It's been covered by lots of k-pop groups, used in protests and many events as well. Very powerful and meaningful song in Korea. You should check out the original performance of Girls Generation too. Amazing vocals and dancing on point! :)

Also the fact that people who were blamed of being the bully wasn't even the bully. And the one who claimed to be innocent wasn't even innocent. Lots of people career were ruined! Hyuna: She used to be in Wondergirls when they first debuted. This was before Wonder girls Nobody hit song but has to leave due to health issues. And debuted with 4minute after a year or so. She is now a soloist under Psy company. Also, during joohyun(?) part they keep focusing with Hyuna because Hyuna(4minutes) was under Cube when this was filmed. Feeldog timeline: Hit the stage, The Unit and then Dancing High. Also if you remember when Feeldog was at HTS there was a scene where he made a prmise with his boss about promotions for Big Star. However, as we all know even though Feeldog tried to get some promotions through HTS it didnt work. Spica: Spica was one of the group who has the best vocals when they debuted. However due to lack of promotions and stuff they werent as popular. Also i think because their style/vibe is not the typical gg.

yesss I'm so excited this is my favorite survival show ever!!! also about the groups only the girlgroup didnt do very well like they did well there in korea when they debuted but then they went down a little because the company didnt promote them well but the boygroup actually did really good, they both had potential to be bigger like the produce groups, specially unb (the boygroup) but the show wasnt as popular as produce and the company who managed them really sucks however even despite of that unb was like on the top 10 of best selling groups who debuted on 2018, they got really close to win a music show and even received an award on soribada award show, they weren't a hit but they really did well even in the circumstances they were at and that also really helped a.c.e for example because a lot of people became fans of them after unb

So a quick summary about Kim Hyuna. She debuted as a Wonder Girls member but left due to health issues. Then she debuted again as a member of 4Minute under Cube Entertainment. She then had a solo debut. She became more popular after appearing in PSY's Gangnam Style mv. She then had a unit couple group called Trouble Maker with Hyunseung (former Beast member and was in Hit the Stage). She debuted again with another unit group called Triple H with Hui and E'Dawn from Pentagon. But she revealed she and E'Dawn were in a relationship so they left Cube. E'Dawn left Pentagon and now has the stage name of Dawn. They both signed now under PSY's agency called PNation. Please do check out some of Hyuna's solo songs and Trouble Maker and Triple H also. THEIR SONGS ARE ALWAYS TALK OF THE TOWN FOR THEIR CONCEPT AND SONG!!

Just a little info behind Timoteo from Hotshot. I dunno if this is considered a spoiler though since they will touch base on it in the next episode. But Timoteo and Taemin (and Kai) are best friends. Timoteo was a trainee at SM and he was a possible candidate for EXO when they were building the group. Things didn't work out and Timoteo didn't make the line up. Timoteo then went and debuted later with Hotshot. Hope that helps to give a little context on why Taemin was super emotional.

Hi Jeff! The first song that was performed was Into The New World by SNSD aka Girl's Generation, I recommend watching the ballad version of the song in their Tokyo Dome concert. This song became the textbook song for a lot of rookie girl groups to cover and this song has been used for protests and really holds a lot of meaning to people.

I was so sad when Spica disbanded. They had some great songs and mvs. I remember that they and mamamoo were often compared when it came to who had the best vocals.

Timoteo is one of the closest friends to both taemin and Kai tho. He appeared in taemin’s personal variety shows in 2017 and this year(both with Kai)

Timoteo! Kim Moonkyu! In their squad Moonkyu is the mom, Kai is the dad, Taemin is the son. Their squad have the purest friendship. I'm just glad they have each other in the harsh world of entertainment. The three of them were together in SM as trainees. then Taemin debuted first. Moonkyu was one of the candidates for EXO. But the three of them have the strongest friendship. Even until now, they're always together to the point where Kai's mom calls Moonkyu his wife:D. Recently they were featured together in Taemin's reality show.

Yeah i agree with you Taemin looked the best in this era! it was the time when he was promoting move and he exercised a lot so his arms were full of muscles and it was hot. And yeah i remember being so shocked when i saw Taemin cry!! He rarely cries!! For me i think that he has a really strong mentality. Even though he is the youngest in SHINee but he is the strongest among the members in controlling his feelings..

Loved your reaction Jeff! The subtitles were a bit misleading I have to admit. The first song that the girl group performed wasn’t their own. ”Into the New World” was Girl’s Generation’s debut song and widely popuöar in Korea and K-pop to this day, so that’s probably why you recognized it.

Phew! This was much fun to rewatch along with you. The Unit is very different in vibe from the other reality shows. I find that it is extra emotional and the contestants are very genuine. Lots of the guys continued to hang out together after the show (even till now) Btw if I recall correctly the Unit was aired 2 eps per week, 45 mins with a break then 45mins. So what you watched was actually ep 1 and 2. Some extra trivia which others didn't include... About the mentors: Hyuna was in Cube ent. as others mentioned; when news of her and Edawn dating broke and they admitted it, the company wasn't very happy. Basically they both left and then Psy picked them up on his label. San-E was also host of Unpretty Rap Star; a while back he faced backlash for some of the lyrics in one of his songs and I think he's been a bit quiet since. Hwang Chiyuel was pretty much unknown for a long time (9 years he mentioned) until he went on the I can See your voice season 4 variety show, and he just totally exploded after that. Super popular in China too apparently. Btw there was 1 other female judge seated at the corner. She's a choreographer and they never included any of the comments etc. That was a bit weird. About the contestants: - Good Day (the first group that appeared) has disbanded but some of the girls are still active in another group now :) - Dal Sherbet (the girls who sang lady marmalade) were actually close to disbanding when they audtioned I think. They didn't mention it but one of the popular members left after contract expired and I guess they were a bit desperate for another shot under that circumstances - Brave Girls as someone mentioned is from the same label as Big Star (and also Samuel from dance war). They were plagued by numerous lineup changes etc - Big star...well Brave Brothers as a producer has this very distinct sound for his songs. Like AoA's Miniskit, Like a Cat, Sistar's Push push etc. It doesn't suit the Big Star members. Rae Hwan has such a R&B voice...(they all do really). The members made their own songs and dropped them on soundcloud and youtube. I think that's why they chose to do a ballad. Feeldog is more of a rapper. Haha I don't know why they gave him the highest part to sing. - Spica as others mentioned, was known for their strong vocals. And the other girls are amazing too. I think one of them Kim Boa, was actually a vocal trainer for Infinite and others (?) before debuting in Spica. ummm, still such a blast to rewatch it. Hahah I think you're seeing from the comments that many of us are rewatching this (and have done so previously). I'm not sure if there's another reality show that has as many re-watchers.

just want to add that the rest of ACE went on another survival show MIXNINE by YG at the same time (i recommend reacting to MIXNINE as well ACE did super well all the way through especially BK, other groups/members such as ONEUS, ATEEZ, ONF, ITZY, TREASURE, KNK etc were on MIXNINE as well. They have some amazing performances both dance and vocally, i personally prefer MIXNINE performances to the unit as well.)

ah! Finally! First of all thank you. I was waiting for someone to react to this show, and when I saw results of that poll, I was maybe too happy haha but now I'll have a source of happiness every week. 1. I am really glad that you found this resourse, The Unit is actually on youtube on official KBS channel with eng subs, but if you'll watch it there (40-60 min per episode) it would take about half a year to cover the whole show 2. I cannot to this day watch A.C.E.'s main performance... I know it's good but for some reason it makes me cringe so hard *sorry A.C.E, ily* 3. Jun from u-kiss, oh boy! he was the reason I've started to watch it. Like imagine a really popular group, everyone knows their songs, but eventually some members leave, they're not that popular anymore and some loyal goodlooking and talanted fan joins them. I don't know it makes my heart ache 4. Raehwan from BigStar (Feeldog's group) in one of the missions he just stole my heart being the nice and gentle guy he is TT 5. SPICA MY GIRLS OMG I LOVE THEM SO MUCH STILL they have great voices (still, their maknae Bohyun appears on some vocal shows), they are BEAUTIFUL, but what they did lack is probably charisma for variety shows and that's ... sad Okay I am so ready for this journey! ps. sorry if my English is too bad pps. it's ok not to know Hyuna since you're focused on boy groups and she is not that active now (our girl is happy in love and tries to deal with her health issues) *but troublemaker tho! they're really good)

Since you're watching The Unit then you gotta watch MIXNINE (YG ENT survival program) too! Also if you didn't know these 2 shows were pretty much happening at the same time. During that time frame it was like competition of survival programs. Also Donghyun, Sehyoon, & BK were on MIXNINE whilst Chan & Jun went on The Unit. (p.s be warned mixnine just makes your blood boil - its what YG likes to do to make us suffer) MIXNINE also had a tonne of trainees you'd definitely recognise + great performances

Okay first of all finally The Unit!!!! I've been waiting for this for so long, I'm so excited. This is legitimately my fav survival show because of its concept and (relative) lack of evil/weird editing so I'm happy to be rewatching this. A ton of comments have already given a lot of context for a lot so I won't add anything except to say I was tearing up at seeing Areum again. I was a kpop fan at the time, mostly of boy groups, and the T-ara scandal was so horrifying. It was a pretty big deal for a group which was on top of the world and competing with Girls' Generation, and hearing the real story of the 'bully' years later was crazy especially to see the power of how news spreads and people take it as gospel truth. People were so vicious to them at the time, it was a nation turned against a few girls and it was crazy. Seeing T-ara get their first win after they came back from the scandal five years later was heartbreaking :(((( They were sobbing throughout and so was I even though I wasn't ever a huge fan of them. There's a new show airing right now called Miss Back, which is similar to The Unit in terms of the concept being to give forgotten (Female) idols a new chance. Watching it is giving me an idea of the girl group side of things since I was always more interested in boy groups, and very revealing. Definitely recommend that show to anyone who's interested - English subs are available on Reddit thanks to talented and dedicated fans! (Not suggesting you should react to it because your list is quite long already haha Jeff, just wanted to throw out this recommendation for anyone who's interested.)

For yourself you can watch iland. There is one kid, his name is Niki, he is a huge shawol, MJ and Taemins fan. He's 14, but dance 10 years and J-hope said that he is very good dancer. Iland formed the band enhypen, which debuts on November 30th. I advise you to see them

imo UNB is the best survival show debut group in terms of the lineup's skills and the group's musicality and choreography imo. They didn't hit mnet produce group popularity but they really left an impact on me, personally bcs of their music and vocals and members chemistry in general

The song that Good Day (1st Group) performed is called "Into the New World" and it's actually by a group named "Girl's Generation". The fast paced choreography is actually why most groups perform it nowadays. Because if you can dance that well and have such stable vocals when singing it, it shows that you have a lot of potential. It's the default song that most female trainees have covered. Hyoyeon, from Hit the Stage, is the main dancer of this group. They debuted in 2007 with this song. Overall, I feel like this show had more of an impact on me personally compared to other survival shows. Maybe it's because I've listened to these groups before. Seeing them on this stage, it really shows how determined and desperate they are to make it in the industry. As Rain said, this might be their last chance.

Joohyun reminds me so much of Taemin. Like him, she got interested in dance at a really young age and became a trainee when she was 11 years old. Taemin debuted at 14 after joining SM when he was 12. The foundation is there, with training she could be successful, especially under a company like Cube.

Its so funny Rain said "if your company doesnt treat you right, come to mine," with Hyuna sitting right next to him who was kicked out of Cube for dating. Hyuna was probably thinking get her out now lol
