I havent watched the video yet because im too excited to tell you that I learned one of the contestants actually debuted as an idol. His name is Junseo, his group is DKB and they debuted earlier this year. They're all crazy good dancers and the synchronization????? Jeff you'd squeal from happiness seeing how synchronized they are lol. I'll come add the rest of my 2 cents after i a actually watch lmaoo

Love these 2 hour videos!! As much as I love team Seunghoon's members, he is easily my least favorite coach. Yes, he is hands on in the choreographing but I feel he really hurt his kids' performances this week and tried to play it off as coaches not needing to dance with the kids when that was clearly the point of the group performances this week. I know he had to prepare for tour but the other coaches have things going on too, it wouldn't have been hard to dance with them for at least the ending. I also didn't like how he said he would "overshadow" them, no offense but at least based off his dancing with Winner, I don't think that would have been an issue. These kids are all so talented I wish everyone could win!!!

Victoria

Just jerk's performance was my favorite, i love that style of dance the most. that's one performance i'd watch over and over again :)

Hi, I'm also new to watching the show and I am also at lost very much to how do they define the theme which was 'K-wave' into their performances because just basing it to how I interpret it now, I totally agree with Seunghoon's comment about him and Lia Kim as the only ones who strictly adhered into it? I don't mean to throw shade or anything I just really want to understand it coz it confused me as well while watching the other performances when it comes to that but nonetheless I totally agree with the ranking on this episode. Thanks!

I'm so used to this 'different theme per episode' concept from Hit The Stage. I was confused when gikwang team said they won't use korean song. I was thinking "isn't that the theme?" but yeah the rank is well deserved for everyone.

hayun lee

seeing just jerk's style of coaching was refreshing because that's exactly what we do too, but i definitely think that it might be tough for kids to handle because it's so strict and they associate dancing with something more free? it's a tough age and it probably would be overwhelming for them, so it's nice to see them work hard and enjoy the process anyway. they were personally my favorite performance too!

ahhah I can tell you the reason why I watch these 2-hour videos you do :). When I first watched these shows I had no one to discuss the show with so watching your reactions and comments make up for it! I think team Lia and team Seung Hoon's performances were my least favorite for sure. I couldn't really remember too much from them. Team Lia's had a bit too much "acting" for me I think. I could not remember the choreo unfortunately. Team Seung Hoon's choreo was interesting but it felt a little like a cut from a much longer stage performance or dance musical thing. It probably was even harder for those of us who don't know the Korean story they were depicting I guess. Team Fiction's execution was really clean and they really looked like a team. Was so nice to see the difference from the previous round! Then there's Team Hoya and Team Just Jerk. I think those were my 2 favorites. I was just thinking the same as what you said! Just Jerk blended into the team. I think the fact that they (smartly I feel) had everyone dress in the same clothes helped in that aspect. And yes it's a very dance competition piece, in a way, I like because, well I'm here to watch dancing! However, Team Hoya pulled off a storyline without sacrificing dancing at all so...that has to be the best of the episode for me.

BaoziBang

The introduction song for Hoya's Team was actually his own song. The narration for Hoony's Team was made by Seungyoon - The Leader and Maknae of WINNER.

Hey jeff, just to point out something that Ive noticed throughout your reactions is that sometimes you miss certain moments or meanings behind translations as well as the editing which ends up resulting in confusion, however that will eventually change once you're used to more of the korean style of shows n when you learn more about the korean culture and the meanings behind certain things.. Another thing is sometimes you also miss what they're saying and you point it out and then i wish i could tell u what it is or to go back everytime that happens haha like in the case of gikwang team saying they didnt want a korean song, that was because of the last episode when they lost they danced to a korean song (zico's song) so it's like a bad luck thingy. Anyways, I really enjoyed your comments on hoya and the fact that you could see that from these 2 shows, he's always been such a hard working person since his debut days and I'm so proud of how far he came.

BaoziBang

You should check out some Dance Practices from Hoya & WINNER when you ever find the Time 😉

BaoziBang

I recommend Soso and Really Really from WINNER & Angel and 7 Years by Hoya!

XSHINeeBAP

Jeff Can u please react to Hoya solo mv Angel? i really like this song and dance is really good too

olivia

And I don't know if you have looked on YT for any of those performances yet, but most of them are also uploaded as a steady cam version. Like Team Hoyas here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8W6EpuCpuE&ab_channel=KBSKpop, I'm sure you would enjoy watching those as well.

PositiveThinking

I completely agreed with the scores on this episodes which was fun. I thought the comment on 'fitting the theme' at the end was interesting.. K-Wave is such an ill defined term. I mean, kpop groups sing in Japanese, Chinese, English depending on the market they are aiming for. They also adapt their music style accordingly. So what makes it kpop? I felt like the theme wasn't well enough defined, the teams were completly within their rights to pick "non-Korean" songs and themes for their performances. They can say that the way *they* performed it makes it k-wave.

Now I feel really bad that some people only watch like half of your videos. I guess those are the people that aren't really interested in you and your opinion and they just want someone to sing their praises about their ults. Personally, I even rewatch some of your analyses. The amount of times I've rewatched your video to NCT U's Boss is probably unhealthy. Anyways, keep up the great work and don't overthink the lenght of your videos. I've recently started rewatching the reactions to RTK and I still find them entertaining.

jeffavenue

im glad you like the 2 hour videos! haha thank you! yeah I think, evidently, dancing with your coach elevates your performance as a competitor and I wish seunghoon gave that opportunity to his kids. and also even to just give them the experience of dancing with an idol.

jeffavenue

oooo you should watch a lot of dance competition performances then! lots of styles like this :)

jeffavenue

same lol. this is how google defines k-wave: The Korean Wave (Hallyu) refers to the global popularity of South Korea's cultural economy exporting pop culture, entertainment, music, TV dramas and movies. Hallyu is a Chinese term which, when translated, literally means “Korean Wave”. so yeah, it was confusing why they didn't use kpop. I think also thats why BTS introduced the theme.

jeffavenue

I think even though it was strict, it's what dancers want to happen. we want to learn from experienced dancers, especially idols. for example, if I want to learn how kai does it, and he tells me I need to run across Canada to be able to dance like that, I would probably do it lol

jeffavenue

lol likewise! I would explode if i watched this show and not have anyone to talk to about it! it's like with produce x 101, I was yearning to cry with someone lol

jeffavenue

ohh ya I didn't make that reference because there was no context prior to that comment in this episode. like they didn't flash back. definitely a language barrier there! I do wish I can watch with you guys live but as my schedule is all over the place, it may not go well haha. yeah I think I can really only react and make comments to what I do understand, and unfortunately, subs arent always 100% accurate

jeffavenue

this is what google says: The Korean Wave (Hallyu) refers to the global popularity of South Korea's cultural economy exporting pop culture, entertainment, music, TV dramas and movies. Hallyu is a Chinese term which, when translated, literally means “Korean Wave”. so im guessing the k-wave theme was supposed to reflect music/themes that were produced by a Korean. but even if we were talking about genres, the other songs used were not in reference to anything Korean at all haha

jeffavenue

it's definitely normal for Kpop react channels! even my little sister only watches like a 1 minute of reaction videos and then moves on. another interesting fact is that only 30% of my viewers are subscribed. there are 70% of people watching my videos that aren't subscribed. so definitely a lot of casual watchers out there!

olivia

Patreon ate my first comment ;___; (I'll try to capture my main points again ..) K-Wave is such a broad theme and a lot less tangible than Teenagers was. Like Wiki said, it's the "flow" of South Korean culture (via Kdramas and especially Kpop) into the rest of the world and simply put describes the growing popularity of everything Korean. However RM did mention how beloved Korean dance is in the introduction to the theme and let's be honest Kpop is about much more than just the music, it's the intense choreographies and performances alongside it. So yeah - how do you show all of that? By depicting Korean history/folk stories, like Team Seung Hoon, or by dancing to Korean pop music, like Team Lia Kim? Or maybe by showcasing idol-like dance and passion, like the others? If I remember correctly it was quite the debate during broadcast and most people seemed to agree with Seung Hoon that the other teams didn't really capture the theme. For me personally this weeks group performance was much more about the kids and the coaches working together and elevating each other in the process. Thus Team Seung Hoon was deservely on last place. The performance was okay, but definitely felt like step down from their first group one. And I hated how Seung Hoon didn't even have any kind of costume - that Burberry coat was great, but clashed terribly with the costumes of the kids and the story of their performance. Everything about it felt lazy and like an afterthought. Team Lia Kim played it too safe for me. It was great fun, but I simply had way higher expectations. And I have to agree with J-Blacks comment to a degree, the performance seemed to flow the best when Lia was at the center. Probably because the choreo fits her style to a tee and looks the most natural with her leading and the kids accompanying her - but like you said, she really shouldn't be the focus xD I felt sooooo proud of Team Gi Kwang! He really step up as coach and lead them well. Everything was so stylish, from the outfits to the music to the dance moves. And the girls did kill it, they played amazingly off each others energy (and even reminded me a tiny bit of Honey J at times!) - the boys didn't stand a chance! Team Just Jerk were my second favorite performance. The rountine was just insanly good and you could really tell how much work and effort they put into every little detail and getting everything so damn sychronized! It it did however feel a bit too "dance competition-y" (yes, that's a word now!) for me and while it's amazing that they managed to come close to those high Just Jerk standards, I just wanted to see a bit more of their "teen spirit" and not just a Just Jerk 2.0 Team Hoyas performance was pretty much perfect!! And I can attest to your comment that it's a performance you watch again - I did, again and again and still get captivated by the very first second. That intro sequence is SO great, the intensity, the sharp moves that fit the music perfectly - it sucks you right in, ha! I love how (almost) every member gets to shine, but they still blend together so well and that Hoya was there from the very beginning - he felt like part of the team and not like a "special guest", appearing halfway through the performance. I can see why people didn't like their use of some "Hollywood song", that couldn't be farther from Kpop, but I think they explained well why they chose the movie as an inspiration and how they wanted to proudly portray their existence as dancers. Oh well, while you can't help yourself and get talktive, I can't seem to keep my comments short xD but like someone else already said: it's the first time most of us get to watch und talk about these shows with somebody else and that's pretty nice! So, thanks again for watching these shows with us! ♥

Oh my I really want you to check out Street Dance China S3 with Jackson,Lay and Yibo but the eps are 2hrs long lol but it's really good

I think Honey J's honestly is great but it seriously sways the judge score when theres only 4 judges and shes voting with a larger point gradation. Maybe it means that the other judges voted too high but 20 pt difference between judges isn't good. Even so I think it does show how one piece can be unanimously voted better and how other pieces can be very divided in votes

EXCITED FOR YOUR REACTION TO THE UNIT AFTER DANCING HIGH...I MISS UNB😭

I’m trying to not be biased but from what I know of seunghoon’s persona I feel like the comment about overshadowing was meant as a joke since he’s known as like the funny guy, the one who lightens the mood and the main reason for him not performing is just simply the tour, I mean it’s a freakin tour! That’s a really really big deal 😂. I know that there’s been several times on this show where people had to miss practice cuz of schedules but none of those schedules were anywhere as big as a tour. from what I understand, on tours the idols hardly have any breathing time so the fact that he sacrificed his leisure time on tour to help evaluate the videos and give feedback like he did is already very impressive to me.

Lee gikwang's team didn't want to take korean song because they did it before and failed! That's why.

Anonymous

Also, I wanna ask if you watched Gikwangs MV? Sexy song, sexy him)))

For the Lia Kim Team, J-black gave them 87 points, the 99 points was Moon Hee Jun, the man from H.O.T.

Dancers have a bigger negative stereotype in Korea then western areas. they are seen almost like rebels or people that are delinquents. There is a lot more stigma surrounding them compared to places like the states or Canada etc. That's why a lot of them talk about it because there is a large prejudice there.

Anonymous

I have some friends that learned in korea and they say there is a huge difference with how they are viewed there, compared to in canada (or LA). In the dance scene at least.
