emily gets a lot of flack in the fandom but to me i think richard is worse. emily doesn't hide who she is and how she acts to a certain extent. you know she's a lot and you know how to tip toe around her. richard on the other hand will act so warm and loving and make you want his approval desperately and will rip that away in an instant. i can only imagine the whiplash loreli had growing up with them and my heart hurts for rory having to experience that from her beloved grandfather. i know it's that old money attitude and he thinks he's being protective but c'mon richard. also i'm glad luke is kind of looking out for loreli here. there's lots of people who love her and look after her and rory to an extent but i think he cares in such a way that he's not afraid to speak his mind to her rather it's something she wants to hear or not. i worry loreli sometimes rushes into things without thinking things entirely through. she can be very impulsive and this isn't the kind of thing to take lightly.

The song is Where You Lead by Carole King. For the Gilmore Girls theme, Carole King recorded a slightly different version of the song with her daughter Louise Goffin. I personally prefer the Gilmore Girls one over the OG. I have it saved on my phone too. All those "lalala" moments are part of what makes GG what it is to me. It's like a really cosy atmosphere. I've always wanted to live in a small New England town because of Stars Hollow. I've also read that the creator of this show wanted that little happy tune to kind of be an extension of Lorelai and Rory's thoughts. Like, if they had music in their head during those moments, that's what it would sound like. I really like the sound of that lol. Richard was being an elitist this episode. I'm sure he had Lorelai flashbacks but if Rory had brought home Tristan, rich guy from their sort of background, Richard wouldn't be half as upset. Do I feel badly for Emily? A little. But I also think she's the sort of parent it's hard to share good news with. She and Lorelai don't have the greatest relationship. She knows herself that she's partly to blame for that, which is why she told Richard to swallow his pride and apologise to Rory so that they won't be kept out of the loop on Rory's life. I don't agree that Richard did nothing wrong or that he was trying to protect Rory. He knew nothing about Dean except that he's a boy, he's got boy parts and he has the potential to get Rory pregnant. He was unfair and childish. There wasn't a single hint that Rory was going down the same path as Lorelai. All she did was bring her boyfriend to dinner. There was also no hint that Emily told Richard anything about the dance either so this just came out of him seeing Rory with a boy, someone beneath their standing no less, and judging him without even trying to get to know him. Richard wants Rory to stay pure and innocent until adulthood but a boyfriend threatens that. Still not very into Max and Lorelai'd engagement. He's a nice guy but not the right guy. Maybe he would be, given time, but I'm still convinced he proposed because he was trying to hold onto Lorelai when his insecurities became too strong, thanks to Luke showing up and whipping around his tool box. Lane's suitcase lives in my head rent free. I'm glad you like her character. She's one of my favs too. I love that Sookie cried and got all emotional because Lorelai is engaged. True besties 💓
