I think Derek doesn't ''hold up'' because you are not looking at him as a person. With his own, thoughts, feelings, frustrations, and faults of course. You are looking at the sum of his actions without any consideration. You don't bother to think about how he's feeling, what he's thinking in the moment etc. That's my opinion. For you it's just a sum. You add when he does a good thing and subtract once he does a bad one - or a 'perceived' bad one. I am sorry but it doesn't work that way. Not to mention this is a bad time in his life. He's reduced only to his interactions with Meredith and Addison. Without considering anything else. His patients, his friends, his other acts. You are basically blinded by your dislike of him.

yeah deeek is like the top brain surgeon for a reason and his patients clearly love him. he cares so deeply for them. here's some things we know about derek outside of meredith and addison: he loves his family and all his sisters, he loves animals, he tries to see the good in each day, he's optimistic, friendly, has a good bed side manner, is fantastic at his job, and genuinely loved his best friend before the betrayal. there's more to him than just meredith and addison. also...he moved to a new city after his wife cheated on him with his best friend, had one night stand that ended ip being a coworker, started to fall for her, cheating wife returned opening old wounds, derek trying to be loyal and "do the right thing" while still desiring to stand by and support meredith so she's not alone. i just don't see how this makes him the bad guy.
