i love GG but boy do i take some issue with how lorelai raises rory throughout the show. this is one of those times. her mother and everyone around her acts like rory is perfect. they've said as much thus far, how perfect and good she is. and when she makes a mistake, a human, teenage mistake, it's like the world comes crushing down because in their minds, rory can't make a mistake. honestly my heart goes out to rory because she seems to be put on such a pedestal by her mother and the town that it feels like there's no room for mistake or being anything less than "good and perfect." now i get lorelai being upset in this situation. i really fully do. she has a right to be mad at her kid. but it feels like there's these standards rory has and there's no room for slipping up. i get being mad. ground your kid, etc. but it seemed less about that and more about calling her character into question which i take an issue with. it's like rory can't make a mistake because she's "good and perfect" and then when she does act like a human, a teenager, that title and crown of "good and perfect" gets ripped away. like she can still be a good kid and make a mistake. you can still get mad at and punish your kid and not make it about questioning who they are as a person. just my two cents.
