Ari is my Cat

I love the joke when Angel says "Vampires don't dress like this" and a guy wearing his exact outfit walks by...

GeekedOutNation

This might be my favorite so far. It's up there for me. Loved all of it except maybe one moment but that's it.

In BTVS to make a vampire the vampire drinks you and then feeds you it's own blood.

So at the end what happened was Ford was turned into a vampire but it doesn't happen right away. You die and then rise. This is why she is patrolling the cemetery all the time. New vampires tend to rise from their graves.

FernWithy

"First they suck your blood, then you suck their blood... it's a whole big sucking thing. Mostly, they'll just kill you." :D

FernWithy

With Spike turning Ford, I think it's just that he recognizes that Ford did keep up his end. I think the implication is that Spike keeps his promises, though he doesn't care much about the follow-through... he certainly would have known that Buffy would be waiting for Ford to rise, stake in hand, and clearly didn't go to provide any backup for the newbie.a

Episode 7's are always important in Buffy. Last season the episode was "Angel" where we find out about Angel being a vampire and his curse. This episode sets up the moral and philosophical center of the show. You have a choice. You don't have a good choice, but you have a choice.

Katherine Thoreson

The reason Spike turned Ford is for the reason you sated yourself. Ford did what he said he was going to do. He kept his end of the bargain. And Spike, in his own way, has his integrity. That was the deal. Ford delivers Buffy, he gets to be a vampire.

A vampire drinks you, and as you're about to die feeds you their blood. You die, and rise the next night as a vampire. Spike simply honored his agreement when he turned Ford.

This one is probably the best so far. Looking forward to the future reactions. Thanks for sticking with it. There are only a few other flops (not that this is a flop) left before Buffy as we know and love it starts.

Love this episode. Definitely the best so far. I like the mini arc Buffy goes through. From being upset because everyone is lying to her to asking Giles to do so to spare her the pain of discovering more truth, of growing up. You asked about Drusilla weak state, the only thing we know is that she was attacked by a mob in Prague and that she nearly died. That’s why Spike brought her to the Hellmouth to heal. That’s what was said in the first episode they appeared.

Miah

Yes! We've had some great episodes so far (Prophecy Girl, School Hard, Halloween) but this is where the show's message is stated. Also, Drusilla talking to the dead bird is absolutely hilarious to me for some weird reason.

this is one of my favourite episodes of the season. There are SO, SO many EPIC lines in this one, from funny, to completely poignant. I love your reactions everytime there is a hint of Spike and Dru - I feel the same lol. My guess is Ford figured out Buffy was the Slayer. He knew her back in LA, where she was kicked out for burning down the gym (full of vamps). I guess he was researching vampires, and found info on the Slayer, and put Buffy's weirdness and the facts together and comes up with his plan. Like others said, seems Spike turned Ford because he DID keep his end of the deal, and weirdly, Spike apparently keeps his promises. Buffy and Giles were waiting to see if he rose as a vampire. She was ready, and she's the Slayer. She doesn't mess about, and he has no chance to defend himself lol. To make somebody a vampire, the vampire drains the person until they are almost dead, them feeds them their vampire blood. The person dies, and then in an unspecified amount of time, they "wake up" a vampire. Usually by the time they wake up the person has been buried, which is why Buffy is always in cemeteries looking for new vamps to stake. Such a big episode!! :D

Holi117

Usually its a few nights I think... its never really specified. nobody is buried within 24 hrs and has a funeral. BUT of course, vamps might bury them. Ford was in his burial suit, so was probably at least a couple of nights. I have theory that the stronger the vampire and the more vampire blood given, the quicker they turn and the stronger they rise. BUT its just my theory lol

Ari is my Cat

I wonder how many potential vampires get cremated before they turn?

Robin Gibbons

One of my favorite episodes of the series and the first that made me go "this show is on another level."

FernWithy

And what if a vampire got embalmed before rising? Would it be like getting neutered, so they couldn't turn anyone else? ;p

Ari is my Cat

Most of the vamps we see rise from the grave would be embalmed. I never even thought about how that would mess with a vampire.

This episode tells us something important about Spike's personality. Vampire or not, he keeps his word.

Bellatronics

Yeah, I always think that Spike was like "Why not keep my word? The Slayer will just stake him the minute he rises, not like I'm gonna keep him around a s a minion." Maybe even a twisted little punishment for Ford being such an annoying git - "ha! I'm gonna make you think I'm giving you what you want, only for you to be dust the moment you rise." Though saying that, I do very much think it's a sign that he keeps his word.

One of my favorite episode of season 2 for sure, maybe even of the entire series. It’s growing on me every time I see it. There is so many things in this! All this reflection about lies, with the many kinds that are presented here, from the little white lies that we tell each others (no, no, I didn’t hate monster trucks 😂) to the big life altering ones. When is it ok or even better to lie to someone, when is honesty really important? Is it always? We see Buffy struggling with the complexity of growing up and dealing with a world where’s nothing is black and white... According to a lot of fans, it’s also the episode that gives the mission statement of the show: « You have a choice. You don’t have a good choice, but you have a choice. » And Buffy knows what she’s talking about since she had herself to face this situation in Prophecy Girl and while struggling with it, chose to do the right thing from her own free will... And as the slayer is faced with this kind of impossible dilemmas all the time.

Hazel Angus

I don't think Buffy and Giles were waiting to see if Ford rose. I think they knew full well that he would. There must be a way Buffy can tell from looking at a corpse - in the very first episode, she knows that the boy killed by Darla is just dead and will not rise.

cil

one of my favorite episodes. and the themes explored in it are important to the overall series. " you have a choice. you don't have a good choice, but you have choice" -- i always come back to this quote. what a line
