i think max went into this with certain expectations he shouldn't have placed on her. i think in his head he imagined lorelei as "calming down" and settling down a bit. i think they just aren't very well matched and i honestly wonder why he perused her so hard so fast. this is gonna sound mean but if he just wanted to have some fun with her, that's what it should have been. he seemed to want to settle down and commit but not to who lorelei is as a person. it's weird to me. he seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't be into someone like lorelei but then he perused her so hard and fast only to seem a bit annoyed with her at times for not fitting into this mold he had envisioned. lorelei needs someone who will love her and accept her where she's at. she's still very mentally young and has her faults. but max doesn't seem to want to commit to that person. instead he wants a version of lorelei he has in his head and i don't think that's fair to her.

also i want to bring up christopher. oh christopher lol for me i think he's lorelei's "what if..." and in her mind at this point he's always been in the back of her mind as that "what if..." - this sort of fictionalized make believe story of what could be. it also doesn't help matters that he's rory's father and i'm sure she holds onto the idea of him also with the desire to have that family she never really had growing up. christopher symbolized a lot of things to her when she was young. primarily freedom and being wanted. now adult lorelei still is trying to untangle those feelings of freedom and the desire to be wanted but they're so closely intertwined with the concept of christopher that it's difficult for her to truly do that.
