i'm on the mom's side in this episode. all of her suspicions were justified and true. her "crazy" energy stemmed from the fact that no one in her family took her seriously. when she brought up her concerns about jeanette to her husband, he basically brushed them off. what's worse is he eventually tries the key himself (as we see at the end) and he discovers that the key IS to mr. martin's house. and even with this knowledge, he never tells his wife "you were right". he allowed her to go on thinking she was crazy. and jeanette having a key to martin's house is a big deal because she a) lied and said she was never in the house - the key proves otherwise. and b) it shows she has some sort of possible involvement with him. jeanette's dad has a history of covering for his daughter (as we saw with the shoplifting flashback). he coddles her and lies for her. he doesn't allow her to take responsibility for her actions. look at the impact that has on her and who she becomes.
