UPDATE ON LONG ANIMATION: Ive had a bit of a problem during production and I had to pause for some time and now its impossible to finish the animation this month. I am sorry, this time it was not anything I could control. But hey! The voice acting is really good

Work in these along animations sounds exhausting so taking breaks from it sounds totally reasonable! We don't mind waiting these long ones obviously take time. And hmmm I don't have a hard favorite either way for the lighting, if I had to pick I guess dark cause it looks a little more natural but both work well

the darker one seems better from the way that the scene should look like. but i guess hakya, youre getting into a very subjective question asking if your monitor is the same as ours. just do what you feel is better!

BTW, how many hours does it take to make one long animation from start to finish and what is the hardest thing when making your content?

yeah the thing is that the dark version looks like the "correct" one on my main monitor, but if I drag it to my other one the bright version seems right. I got a bunch of criticism(welcomed!) for the "home videos 2" animation, a bunch of people said it was too dark which it wasnt on my screen, so I was trying to check if its just my main monitor being too bright. And it probably is. I should have used a poll haha

its a bit difficult to judge time like that haha, thats like asking how long does it take you to finish building a house? Well depends on what house, do I have a lot of experience with that type of house? The only quantifiable amount of time is render time- I can render about 700 frames of animation a day, and the animation im working on is about 22000 frames. So nonstop rendering on two computers for a full month and the thing which takes up most of my time is just plain old animating, making sure limbs are at the correct position, animating the characters expressions and matching them to the voice actors performance. It usually goes just a little slower than the rendering does - like half a minute or so a day, given that the base animation is already done

thanks. just wondering as i come from the directing side of things. I've had a few friends from the arts side but never ones that deal with animations. I like talking to people about these things esspecially before i work with them or just as a side chat to know them better.

I see, if youre directing then the only way to estimate the time an animation would take is to consult the animators working on the animation directly- There are a hundred variables and how long/good the animation is doesnt necessarily correlate with the time it took to make. For example: this animation took like three times longer than the "huggable gf", an animation which is longer and IMO way better

Sorry, I wrote a response to a guy above but deleted it because people probably wouldnt know what im on about The animation is progressing pretty good, actually faster than my past animations thanks to new workflows! hopefully animated better aswell. Unfortunately I ran into a problem which prevented me from working on the animation for several weeks- for which I am sorry, but this time it was out of my control. Right now, multiple weeks of rendering is still going to be required, I would give you a deadline but... well... in the four years ive been doing this ive never successfully met one 😬. Ill do my best though. NEXT MONTH OR I WILL EAT MANY SHOES

Hakya, I noticed you said it takes weeks to render the animation which has me wondering, what kind of GPU are you using? If it is the typical gamer oriented GPU such as the Nvidia RTX 4000 or Radeon 7000 series as powerful as they are, they take a very long time to render complex animations in comparison the workstation counterparts. I know they can get pricy but for professional animators like yourself, it can very much pay for itself in the vast rendering speeds since it sole purpose is for animation and 3D modeling. Have you considered getting a workstation GPU with drivers specifically for rendering?

Arent workstation gpus slower for rendering though? also im fine on rendering power, right now my gpus render just about as fast as I can animate so thats not a problem haha. I would like the VRAM those things have though. damn blender keeps crashing because i always run out of it

Workstation GPUs really are the same card but cost more money due to the sheer amount of VRAM and product support they have for creators. For example the Workstation equivalent of the AMDs current high end GPU the 7900 XTX 24GB of VRAM is the AMD Radeon PRO W7000 with 48GB of VRAM. Prices vary but the most expensive AMD Consumer Gaming GPU out now ranges from around a thousand dollars while the Workstation card is over four thousand. Both cards are very similar in terms of performance but I recently found out that both cards may be able use the Pro Drivers which means that both can be tailored for rendering compared to the Adrenaline drivers for gaming. Nvidia has a similar situation with their lineup of GPUs. I don't know what card you have but its possible to get the most most powerful gaming card and use Pro drivers but if VRAM is an issue both the Nvidia and AMD workstation equivalents have over 40GB of VRAM.

Workstation GPUs are inferior for blender rendering. Unless you desperately need more than 24GB it's a waste of money. The benchmarks all indicate that the most powerful workstation card by score is the A5000/A6000, yet it is below every single geforce rtx 40 series and the 3080, 3080ti, and 3090. The radeons are OK, but nvidia Optix is still way faster.
