This past week I've been doing a lot of quick studies and sketches to help improve my work, and it's been awesome. It's really helped me loosen up and focus on learning or trying new things instead of always striving for a finished 'product.'

I think it would be a cool thing in the future to maybe have a weekly study or exercise that all of us could participate in and share here or on the discord, but I don't know how many of you are also artists! So here's a poll to get a sense for how many of you are artists or interested in learning to draw :)

Im a pro at dumb scribbles

Nicnak

I am one who wields a pencil u_u

Newmoon Draws

I'm an artist... of the absent kind; but would like to change that, yes

Chrysalis

I'm an artist, but my motivation for it has been at an all-time low this year, so I'd love to give something like this a try!

Cole_RS

I dont know if artist already is the right word for me, but i do some drawings and tend to be more and more happy with them. Recently working on a short comic and some gift art. I would love to learn more.

Othello

I've wanted to learn for a long time and have taken cracks at it now and then but I always get frustrated.

Huff

I'm an artist, but not the visual kind :c

Kesslan

I'm tempted to say I would like to learn, but past experience has taught me that, as much as I wish I had the interest and will in picking up art again, I... just don't have it in me to do. My talents and interests lay elsewhere. That isn't to say there aren't times I don't regret my choices. There are certainly times I badly wish I could draw some of the ideas I have myself, but I just, don't have the will to put that much time and effort into it.

Maygray Heron

I mostly consider myself a writer. The little visual art i do is mostly some 3d-modelling in Blender and some procedural/programming art. So i am quite torn what to answer.

I am an artist, but never learned to shade properly or do backgrounds. I really just do lineart

demicoeur

Motivation is really hard to come by, especially this past year. I find I have to replace motivation with 'habit' a lot to get things done T_T

I figure if you draw at all, even if not super regularly, then you're an artist! But I realize in hindsight that artist is a broad term and I maybe should have been more specific lol!

demicoeur

That's okay to decide your talents and time are better suited to something else! I sometimes wish I had chosen ONE thing to be super interested (art or writing) rather than both, just because then I'd have more time to devote to that one thing instead of multiples.

I've considered doing blog posts about writing as well, but felt like maybe that would be weird since most of my written work is non-furry? I dunno, it's something I've considered though ^_^*

While it's never too late to try, I think it's fine to also just focus on what kind of work is satisfying to you :)

I wanted to become one, but because of my disability I could never evolve beyond tracing, and after seeing how reviled the practice is in the community, I decided that drawing wasn't my thing.

demicoeur

I'm sorry to hear that :( For what it's worth, I don't think there's anything wrong with tracing provided you credit the artist and aren't doing it for a commission where the commissioner is paying for an original. Tracing is as valid a means of learning as anything. The bad rep it has is undeserved imo.
