August News (Patreon)

With July wrapped up, it's time to dive into the news for August!

REQUEST STREAM

This month I'll be doing a couple request streams to sketch your characters! This is in lieu of the regular perks, which I'll be pausing this month while I script and thumbnail the comics. I'll post a form to fill out with all your refs/info tomorrow. Please fill it out even if you already did in the previous request stream! I'll still be prioritizing those who didn't get a sketch last time. I will be doing waist-up or full-body depending on time and character complexity. You'll be able to specify whether you want it sfw or nsfw as well. Looking forward to this!

CHANGES TO MY PERKS

I've decided to implement the changes discussed last month to my Patreon perks in October. I would essentially be cutting pinups, the sketchbook, and the Fancy Feline tier. There would still be full access to my previous posts of course, and comics would continue as usual! Some have expressed interest in me posting other personal work, sketches, tattoo design/portfolio work etc. If you want to see things like that (even though some may be sfw or non-furry), let me know. I don't know how to sum up those reasons in a single sentence, but suffice it to say I'm really struggling with workload, feeling like a content mill, stagnating in my creativity, and not making enough from it to save for my future, so I'm looking into alternate work that might satisfy these needs. I'll make a more detailed post reminding of these changes in September, before implementing them in October.

CHANGES TO PATREON'S NSFW POLICIES

If you're unaware, Patreon has been banning nsfw content, starting with the most controversial kinks. Now they're regulating what you can have on websites outside Patreon (so if you have posted something outside their TOS on Twitter, they'll ask you to remove it or ban you). Their filters have started creeping up on a lot more common nsfw art (queer and furry work is getting flagged a lot more commonly). Since I've been considering cutting back on Patreon perks anyway, these crackdowns have reinforced my decision to do so and diversify my income. Much as I hate how nsfw art gets treated on ye olde internet, I can't control what Patreon decides to limit on their platform. Some artists are using other platforms now, like subscribestar, but I know what the rate of attrition is like when making that kind of switch, and I know I can't maintain two platforms right now. For the time being, I'll stay here, and we'll see what happens.

That's about it!

Though I'm scared and anxious about the changes (both those I've decided on myself, and those outside my control like the ones made by Patreon), I'm hopeful that I can one day have a much healthier balance between work and life. I think a lot of people are really struggling right now and the world has thrown us a lot of curveballs with the pandemic. I'm sorry if I haven't been as cheerful or engaged as a result! I try to maintain an optimistic outlook. Isolation from my friends has been really hard, but my gf and I are safe and working from home, going for walks/picnics in the park etc.
