Fascinating theory, Stargazer! However my only issue is that Connor is such a schmuck, I refuse to imagine that any part of him could be related to Buffy.

Fan theory - or I suppose more like fan fiction - not based on anything in particular that's happened, nor does it contradict anything that will happen. So no spoilers, just a random idea. Way back in Angel season 1, when Angel became human again in, "I Will Remember You," and he's reunited with Buffy; the Oracles tell him this was supposed to happen. It wasn't a fluke, it was "meant to be," but Angel refuted it and had them undo the day. My idea goes that, had Angel not taken back those 24 hours, Buffy would have gone back to Sunnydale and ultimately discovered that she was pregnant, following her and Angel's ice cream fueled romp in LA. Angel would come back to Sunnydale to be with Buffy again and raise their child together. There'd have been no Riley and Buffy and season 4 would have played out a little different. 9 months later would have been right around the start of season 5. Buffy goes into labor, Willow tries to use magic to help Buffy through the pain of delivery, only for it to cause a sort of Groundhog Day effect, where they keep reliving the day, each of the Scoobies (and Spike) living it as Buffy. The spell eventually gets broken, just in time for Buffy to deliver. The new parents share a moment and are presented with their brand new son, Connor. And Connor's twin sister, Dawn. Now of course, Angel did take back the day, so none of that happened. Instead of the Monks making use of the opportunity of the Slayer's pregnancy, they make Dawn her sister, rather than her daughter (although fate kind of brought that back around). And then when Angel tried to lose his soul with Darla, something else happened. A confluence of circumstances, whereby Angel's soul reached out to the ether in despair; and rather than leave of Angel, connected with a piece of itself lost across time - sort of like what happened in Doppelgangland with Willow/Vamp Willow and what Anya was trying to do to retrieve her necklace. In this case it was the part of Angel's soul that had combined with Buffy's in the conception of Connor; the son of a former vampire and a Slayer, from a timeline that had been "meant to be," but lost. Destiny needed Connor's birth to happen, so Angel's soul became an anchor, pulling Connor through the ether and into the closest womb - Darla's.
