[LOTS OF TEXT]

Then I realized my water color box is the only thing keeping my monitor from falling... so I chose something similar I already had... Rebelle 6... It was hard at the beginning...

I tried to apply what I knew about traditional watercolor, a lot of things hold, but others not... it's digital, a simulation, you are using a pen prentending it's a brush and your paper isn't gonna dry itself. Adding more water doesn't mean more transparent colors like it would on traditional water color...

The funny part was that I would use traditional tutorials and adapt them to a digital painting simulator... I like water painting for the texture. When I used SAI my favorite brush was a water color like brush... then moved to other programs and since then I've never had a brush like that one lol...

I drew the banana using an overkill of a palette with 75 colors... I got lost in so many colors to choose...

When I did the eggs I decided to lower it down to a 14 standard water color palette... and at that point I stopped fooling myself, I had to accept I was working on digital, I was going to avoid most digital painting tricks but not all of them...

Then the peach... with the peach I decided to embrace more the digital side of the things... used the whole color wheel and one blending mode (Multiply)... but believe me, it's better to limit yourself to primary colors and mixing them if you want to understand how colors work better.

Focusing is key, trying to isolate colors with observation... you think a shadow is pure gray but it might be a cool gray, maybe more blue than you thought... how your sorroundings influence the light and shadows.

I'll make 3 more water color studies this couple of days and then I'll move to gouache... and focus on more backgrounds, nature, buildings and interiors...

Then on my last week, I'm gonna focus on animation exercises to get ready for what's coming...

My plan was to make the backgrounds of the upcoming GumLee animation with traditional media... but had to settle with pretend traditional media xD...

If everything fails... I'll commission a background artist... lol... I won't go down without fighting for it...

maybe in the middle of the production I'll take anotherrelax practice month to keep refining skills... but that's a talk for later lol

I like your stories about tools and techniques. Not sexy maybe, but 'sexy' in another way! LOL

If I don't share my passion for something, what's the point of art? xD
