Dragon King Rabbit for Year of the Dragon! 辰年には龍王兎！ (Patreon)

Dear shrine parishioners, thank you always for your support! This is Rebis.

Oops,  I was thinking of drawing a New Year's picture with a dragon theme, and  before I knew it, January was almost over. Although it's very late,  Happy New Year! Please continue to support me this year as well!

So,  this time I'm presenting a yokai girl themed on dragons. But... a  rabbit? Perfect for the transition from the Year of the Rabbit to the  Year of the Dragon, it's the "Dragon King Rabbit"!

The Dragon  King Rabbit (Ryuou Usagi) is a mythical creature from Fukuoka  Prefecture, appearing in legends related to the founder of the Koukokuji  Temple in Fukuoka City, the great priest Daiou Kokushi (Nanpu  Shoumyou).

As a young monk, Daiou studied in the Song Dynasty  (China) and on his way back to Japan, he saved a white rabbit being  chased by hungry wolves. Chanting a Buddha prayer, he warded off the  wolves and took the rabbit aboard his ship. When they encountered a  storm in the Genkai Sea, the rabbit leaped among the waves, calming the  storm and creating a path. After leading everyone safely to a Beach in  Fukuoka, the rabbit emitted a golden light, transformed into the Dragon  King, and ascended to the heavens!

There are many tales of  renowned monks traveling abroad and encountering gods, yokai, and the  supernatural, but the image of a cute white rabbit turning into a golden  Dragon King is striking! Inspired by Tera-san's "Shinban TYZ," where I  first saw this youkai (?), I felt compelled to draw it.

In  "Anime-Tamae!" world, the Dragon King Rabbit is envisioned as a strong  character protecting Buddha-Dharma (Buddhism), a protective  yoikai-deity. Despite its powerful and voluptuous body, it has a  youthful and cute face too? It's a character I'd love to imagine in  action!

Recently, due to various circumstances, updates to the  main story of "Anime-Tamae!" have been delayed.... But I've resumed  writing in January and will work hard to deliver updates this year.  Thank you always for your support!

ああっと、龍をテーマにした絵でお年賀を…と思っているうちに、もう1月も終わりになってしまいました。
とても遅くなりましたが、あけましておめでとうございます。
今年もどうかよろしくお願いいたします！

というわけで今回は、龍をテーマにした妖怪娘をお送りします。
龍だけど…兎？　うさぎ年と辰年が移り変わるときにピッタリな「龍王兎」です！

龍王兎（りゅうおううさぎ）は、福岡県に伝わる妖怪的な動物です。
福岡市の寺院・興徳寺の開祖である大応国師（南浦紹明）にまつわる伝説に登場します。

若き日の国師は宋で修業し、帰国の途中、血に飢えた狼に追われる白兎を救いました。国師は念仏を唱えて狼を退け、兎を懐に入れて乗船しました。
玄界灘で嵐に遭った際、兎は波間を跳ねて荒波を鎮め、一筋の道を作ります。
福岡の浜まで人々を導いた後、兎は金色の光を放ち龍王となると、天に昇って消えたそうです！

海外に渡航した名僧が神仏妖怪や不可思議に出会う話は多々ありますが、かわいい白兎が金色の龍王になるイメージは鮮烈ですね！
今回参考とさせていただいた、teraさんの『新版TYZ』で拝見するや、描きたい！と感じた妖怪（？）（異類？）です。

あにめたまえ！世界の龍王兎は、今も仏法を守護する強キャラ護法妖怪神をイメージして描いてみました。
大迫力のむちむちボディですが、童顔でカワイイところもいっぱい？　活躍を想像してみたいキャラになりました！


ここ最近は諸事情で、『あにめたまえ！』本編の更新が滞っておりましたが…
1月は執筆も再開しております。また本編更新もお届けできるよう、今年は頑張っていきますね。
