Beautiful Yamamba who gives you money and can take you to The United States! (Patreon)

Today, I'd like to introduce you to our latest entry in the Yokai Pinup with Lore, "The Yamamba who's beautiful, gives you money, and takes you to the United States!"

This version of Yamamba (mountain witch) is based on a story from Kumamoto Prefecture.

According to "The Japanese Yokai Encyclopedia: Kyushu & Okinawa":

In Kuriki Village, Yatsushiro County, Kumamoto Prefecture, an elderly woman encountered a beautiful Yamamba in the mountains. The Yamamba politely asked the woman, "Please let me borrow a room in your house." A few days later, as the old woman was napping in her room, Yamamba came to the garden and bowed her head. From that day onward, whenever the elderly woman opened her purse, there was always money in it... In her dreams, Yamamba would even take her to the United States!

What a fascinating story!

This Yamamba is not only explicitly described as beautiful, but her way of showing gratitude is also quite unique.

In the "Anime-Tamae!" version, I naturally fashioned her into a beautiful Yamamba Gyaru. Often, when you think of Yamamba, they have long boobs, and I've made sure to reflect that in the character design. She seems like the wonderful type of Yamamba who would take people she likes, or those she wants to repay, to the United States and also provide them with a lot of pocket money. (Or, if you happen to live in the United States, you might just unexpectedly encounter this Japanese Youkai Gyaru...?)

Interestingly, I had previously drawn Yamamba for Halloween, so it has coincidentally become a combination of Halloween & Yamamba once again.

今回のヤマンバ（山姥）は、熊本県に伝わるお話を元にキャラクター化してみました。

『日本怪異妖怪事典 九州・沖縄』によると――

熊本県八代郡栗木村のお婆さんが、山で美しいヤマンバと出会います。
ヤマンバはお婆さんに「部屋を貸してください」と手を合わせて頼んできました。
数日後、お婆さんが座敷で昼寝をしていると、縁側にヤマンバがやってきて頭を下げました。
それ以来、お婆さんが財布を開けるといつでもお金が入っていたり…
夢の中でヤマンバがアメリカに連れて行ってくれたりしたそうです。

なんとも面白いお話ですね！
美しいと明言されているだけでなく、恩返しの方法がとってもユニークなヤマンバです。

『あにめたまえ！天声の巫女』版では、もちろん美しいヤマンバギャルに仕立ててみました！
ヤマンバといえばおっぱいが長いことも多いので、キャラデザにもしっかりと反映しております。
気に入った人間や、恩返しをしたい人間を、アメリカに連れて行っていっぱいおこづかいもくれる…

そんな素敵なヤマンバのようです！

以前ハロウィンにヤマンバを描いたことがあったので、奇しくもふたたびハロウィン＆ヤマンバという組み合わせになりました。
