I think Stefans point was that Caroline didn't deserve a death threat over sleeping with Klaus. Like Tyler was so mad (not saying not rightfully so) he turned into his Hybrid form in wich one scratch would kill Caroline.

Season 3 was the last season of Kevin Williamson being the showrunner and head writer so the quality of the show went down after that. I have rewatched the entire series a few times and now I hate the show. After season 3 the writing is just not great. Elena has become someone who exists just to make Damon happy. Damon is not the Vampire Diaries and they have started shoving him down our throat and it’s not good. I get why Nina left, I would have quit also. Something so great turned to trash.
