Important to pay attention to the details. In Connell's mind (and I think that's what was actually said): "so, I guess you would like to see other people". In Marianne's mind: "I guess we should see other people." They are both so insecure and read each other's responses in the wrong way beacuse of it. Then they run away beacuse they hurt so bad instead of making sure they understand each other
