Maybe it’s a 5/10 if you don’t know the references? Hearing that Mario had a father who’s disappointed in him is objectively hilarious. Surely that’s not like, the point of Mario?

I thought the movie was about a 7.5 as a popcorn flick, but probably a 9.0 as a Mario adaptation. I am really glad they kept the plot basic and didn't even TRY for an emotional pixar vibe. It's just like the games, fun scenes, cool ideas, no plot or stakes. The deus ex machina Super Star that Bowser just doesn't use would be terrible in any other movie, but here, I don't really care that much.
