Hey, Greg. Watched the BG3 Gregway late so I’m leaving this here. Turn based stuff is not my thing at all. I typically have very similar taste to you but things have a lower chance of hitting for me. When I tried playing D&D with friends, I absolutely hated that combat too. With BG3, I went as a rogue, no focus on magic or anything just to keep things simple. It began to click for me when I started really looking at those combat encounters as things to avoid. Talking my way out of having to fight, sneaking around, cheesing the game in any way before combat so I didn’t have to work hard. That always started off a fight on the right foot for me and that planning ahead of time, then execution, is where “fun” started to come in. To help that, I never took anything too challenging on early. I’d seek out everything smaller first to level up, get the upper hand, and have more wiggle room to play around with my approach. That sort of messing around with what I was doing ended up familiarizing me with the mechanics enough that I became comfortable with what was available to me, more improvisation during fights, seeing how the systems I was exploiting ahead of time I could then use during combat. Kick people off ledges, sneak over with an explosive barrel and shoot it from the shadows, call on a group of hired ogres to help you fight then run away so you don’t have to pay them. The game is built for you to fuck around and push limits, build a weird story, and eventually the combat really starts to feel like another way of doing that. Also, set the difficulty as low as possible and become comfortable save scumming some combat encounters so you can just enjoy the game.

Hey Greg! Completely understand if this question is a little personal, but I was wondering at what point in Ben’s life will you tell him your cancer story or if you ever will at all.
