Post Production Report #9 - Momiji's VO is done! Lighting and environmental design is almost done (Patreon)

Hi there!

I received the VO for Momiji a few days ago and I am quite happy with it. I didn't have the time to hear everything though, which I will attend to tomorrow.

I think the masturbation part is a little overacted and I could ask the voice actress do redo it. I would to have some progression to her raising lust.
Other than that, SilkyMilk did a great job in conveying the lines.

It's probably weird for hardcore DOA fans who played the games in japanese to hear english voices for the characters.. I hope that's not going to be a serious deal breaker for anyone.

Lighting and environmental design
The freaking dream sequence is finished. The environmental design is that intense that SFM is completely lagging when I open up the project^^;
I can't show anything this week since it's not rendered yet. The lighting and environment should be done 100% for the whole project in the next days.

Is the subtitle design final? They seem a little too big, though I’d love to hear what everyone else has to say. Otherwise, good work so far!

There will be no subtitles in the final release. They're meant to be a orientation for the VAs so they don't have to read the script all the time while doing the voice overs :)

Thank you for keeping us all up to date with the post production. I must say it's really interesting to finally understand the huge scope that goes into finishing up the movie, even after all the scenes are animated! Even if I didn't have time to reply in detail to every post, I've been reading them with great interest. 😄 It's really amazing seeing that even after all these months of work you still have the energy to go over all these little details and make this movie into the best version of itself. I really admire your dedication to the craft! Also congratulations to choosing such talented voice actresses. I might be somewhat of a purist as far as DOA voices are concerned, but Ayane's actress really captures the essence of her quite striking original voice. It's a really close English equivalent, I'm very hapy with the samples you posted last time. Momiji, too, she's just great. I enjoy Silky playing her in an almost ditzy way, that works great with Momiji's role as both a traitorous villain while at the same time being completely under the demons' spell. In a way, she has been "mind-fucked silly". I'm with you on maybe toning down her little solo scene. It would give her later action with Honoka much more weight if she wasn't cranked to 11 from the get-go. 😈 Your animation made me think more of a heavy breathing for the scene you shared. It might just be personal preference though, nothing I would say ruins the immersion if it remained unchanged. (Loved the addition glowing eyes for Momiji at the end of the scene here, that gives her looking back from the shadows such a wonderful inhuman feel. Love it! 🥰) All in all, I'm very happy things seem to be working out for the project! But like you said the other time, it certainly feels like it could have been two movies worth of side-story instead of a quick project. 😅 As the audience, I'm of course thrilled to get this much story out of one release - but I think it's more important that you use a work rhythm that allows for you to do this long-term and not having to bring 110% performance every day because the scope just keeps creeping up. From my perspective, the DM setup seems to lend itself to shorter stories with just one or two girls very well. So, I certainly hope you aren't getting sick of all that animating, because it's really a blast to see all this! 😇 Thanks for keeping us posted, and have a good week!

2021-07-22 10:08:44 I just love your WoTs :D <3 I never ever had the feeling of "oh no, I have to animate this and that today" during the whole year which emphazises my love for animation and it just lets me keep going, I guess :) But I am definitely at the point where I want to release DM ASAP. Love to hear that from a DOA connoisseur :) I was concerned about the VOs to be honest but I am quite impressed so far. Honoka's VO will be sent to me tomorrow, too! Yup, heavy breathing, mixed with toned down moaning would be perfect but I am certain that silky will easily correct that! I doubt that you can really stop the scope creeping up in that area. I know 2 other animators with the same problem, there's ALWAYS something missing at the end and you need to correct it. But I get your point. I could've released DM EP1 when the dream sequence was finished and included the lesbian scene in EP2 e.g... I'll definitely change my work rythm for EP2^^ No, I am not sick of it by a long shot. Seeing beautiful 3D Ladies everyday is not something I can complain about :P Thank you for commenting!
