Hey folks! Normally I share these early release novel chapter posts as an exclusive perk with the $20+ crowd, but I wanted to broaden the scope of this one a little bit. I'm back at work on The RA Volume 4, this time a series of shorts following various residents (and maybe staff members) on and around Higgins 3. These posts are always done first draft quality, so expect some ugly parts. I don't even hit spellcheck.  It can be bumpy at times, but since I know how I tend to get pretty myopic when I'm focused on a particular work, I thought I'd let folks who otherwise might be waiting around for a while for me to finish a full book some insight into what I'm doing.

This RA4 installment follows Higgins 3's own gamer girl, Destiny. I have a lot of feelings about this one, more than my usual load of "I'm not sure I like X" and "maybe in revision I'll Y the Z." This is a chapter with a lot of big feelings, so for now, I'm going to sit with them, and maybe just love this piece a little bit. I hope you enjoy it, too.

Have a great weekend, everybody, and more to come.

I'm not sure you hear it enough, but you're very, very good at this.

The greatest aspect of The RA series is that, despite the harem genre and male POV, it's incredibly devoted to the inner lives and general well-being of its female characters. Spencer's feelings are our way of digesting the plot and understanding the stakes, but the Hotties are how we process the goals and ideals of the story. Nowhere is that more apparent than in this beautiful chapter of Destiny's search for a place where sex and affection don't feel like commodities, or obstacles to her identity. There's so much horribly banal sadness to Destiny's life: a parade of indignities and outright assaults, while she strains for some actual, nurturing friendship. That she should end up rooming with a girl as kind and generous as Charlie feels like... well, a bit like destiny. I love it for its Spencer-like lack of judgment, for how the development of this bond isn't labeled or litigated, it merely exists. It's kindness that becomes kinkiness, but it never loses the kindness at its core. There's so much genuine warmth and support in this story of mutual masturbation and sexual obsession, and that's a rare gift for a writer to possess. You're right to be proud of this one, and it's gratifying that you're able to see it. You've created something special in The RA series, and each chapter is an opportunity to what new dizzying heights you're capable of reaching. Thank you so much for sharing this story with us.

Heavy stuff, but also very sweet. It was good to see a different point of view regarding Tori's well-meaning if blunt protectiveness, and that situation adds a ton of weight to Tori and Spencer's conversation that set up the program with Marisa.
