Just wanted to do a quick post here and share a couple of sketches I did during last night's livestream. I'm attaching the time lapse videos for each one too if you wanna check those out!

These are sort of a part of an ongoing experiment I'm doing where I'm avoiding the dark sketch outlines I've often had on sketches in the past. The goal is to see if that changes how easy it is for me to transition from sketch to painting. And the results so far make me optimistic. The values feel less messy this way, so there's less to clean up in that transition. Hopefully the experiment keeps having good results!

Oh good, now I won't get super bitter about the fact you started streaming right when I had to go to work :D

I didn’t know you could do this in blender

Omg please finish the second sketch that is amazingly hot.

Oh, I really like the style of these. They have wonderful texture and a painterly feel to them. The first one is really interesting, with the pale, grey-skinned ladies in the centre, being framed by the warmer tones of their male friends. I also love the edge-lighting here, particularly the pinkish lighting that tints the lady on the left. The one on the right is very striking too, with large, dark shadows across her right side, with a bright, pale light from above and warmer edge-lighting from below. And I do enjoy all of their expressions and how their mouths and cheeks react and move as they suck, the love-heart eyes on the centre lady being a particularly fun detail 💜 And there's a great feeling of motion here with all of their hair as it flows and curls, as well as from all of the goop flying around. A really great detail is on the left lady, with the blurred strings of goop, really selling that feeling of motion as she pulls back. I especially like the second sketch for a whole host of reasons, one of which is really stupid and personal. Where I live in Ireland, sometimes young guys with do the same gesture with their hand that the demon girl in the back is doing. They'll be driving along and just raise a hand, fingers split in the same way, thumb up, back of the hand facing out. I don't even know what it means but it's called the "shcan" (It's a stupid slang word, so there isn't really a set spelling for it). So I see this painting, see the standing lady and I'm like "Aw, she's giving the shcan!" 😹😹😹 Okay, but back to the painting... Like I said, I love it! The colours are just gorgeous, I really enjoy the overall pink tones and the variation in tints. The more reddish tint on the tentacles in the centre, with a cooler, blue-tint on the outer-tentacles and on the ladies from the side makes the piece so vibrant with lovely contrasts. Naturally, the more normal tones of the nerdy elf (even without his glasses, I know it's him!) are a great contrast to the pinks and purples too. And I just love the motion in this piece too, from all the curling of the tentacles, to the demons poses as well. The back one looks great, standing tall and giving the shcan, while the lower one is so sensual and flowing, with a curving motion running through her arched back and tail as it wraps around the elf. The textures and painterly style in this one is something I just find so appealing too, especially the shine spots on the characters and highlights on the tentacles. Oh and it must be said... the rear demon has got a beautiful pair of breasts, accentuated particularly nicely by the large shadows on them and the edge-lighting wrapping around them 😻 Okay... I didn't think I'd talk so long about the sketches, I thought I could be brief but I guess brevity from me is a lost cause at this point 😅 Regardless, these are a tonne of fun and I love the painterly style, marvellous work! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

I realize now the UIs for Blender and Paintstorm can look slightly similar, so, just in case it wasn't clear in the videos, the perspective grid is the only thing I did in Blender before going over to Paintstorm. I have seen someone do 2D paintings in Blender before though! They just set up a single quad as a canvas and texture painted it. I tried it once, but I could never get comfortable enough with the texture painting tools there for it to feel practical lol. They unfortunately feel pretty convoluted compared to any dedicated 2D painting software.

Happy to hear you like the sketches, Ciarán! Maybe those Irish guys are attempting to cast lube rain spells on each other, like the demon is doing. 🤔 "Shcan" definitely sounds like some sort of word of invocation straight out of D&D.

Ciarán M

Somehow, I think that might be unlikely... but then again, it's been longer than I care to admit since I was 18, so who knows what the youngsters are up to these days? 😹 And a lot of Irish and Welsh shows up in these fantasy settings. I think the elf language in the Witcher is just Welsh, same with some of the names from Dark Souls, specifically Gwyn and his family, with Gwyn meaning white. As for the paintings, I know I definitely wouldn't mind seeing the second sketch taken all the way to a full painting 😻

Good stuff my friend :]

Griffin Barrows

Ufff woof yes. Group on group in the first one, and that tentacle-ball wrap on the second 🥵

reltcstone

I think these are a great success. Also i love the compositions. wonderful framing with the circle in the second one and the triangle style comp in the first one. wonderful value range and color palette.

Hitmanmaloe

Amazing pieces as always love the unique characters you do!!! Was the hardest part all the tentacles for the second pic?

DEMON WOMENNNN

Thanks, I'm glad you like the characters! Tentacles are actually pretty easy since there isn't really a way to draw them with incorrect anatomy or anything like that. They're kinda just interlocking curves with rim lights and glossy highlights, so they were probably the easiest thing to draw there. 😄

These are truly GREAT! As I recall, there is only one proper tentacle piece in your finished work. This one, fully fletched out, would be an excellent addition to your work! It has a really good composition, and the expression of the demon girl is absolutely priceless!!
