It's time for the first episode of The MinnMax Show for 2023! We're back! On this episode, Ben Hanson is joined by Kyle Hilliard, Janet Garcia, and Jacob Geller to talk about our winter break and share the highlights of all the games we played. We also share the big results for the MinnMax community's hive-mind take on the top 10 games of 2022! Forget The Two Tens, this is an objective list based on hundreds and hundreds of votes. Then in the back half of the show we answer community questions submitted on Patreon.

Missed joke opportunity! After weirding everyone out with his horny reveries of Eyes Wide Shut, Ben tried to re-route with "does anyone have another example, less sexual, please?" Jacob began to discuss the ending of the film Her, but it doesn't matter what example was next. Ben needed to jump in and plead, "I said LESS sexual!"

Some thoughts regarding the discussion around review scoring. First, I disagree with the sentiment that reviewers should not be criticized when there is dissonance between their written narrative review and numerical score. For example, GameInformer's review of Saints Row (2022) which details the poor performance, bugs, lackluster gameplay then ends with a final score of 8.5 which puts it into the same numerical ranking of Pentiment and Marvel's Midnight Suns, both of which have overall positive narrative reviews. See how that is a problem for the average consumer looking to an outlet for information on whether or not to purchase a game? Additionally, and not to be pedantic, but numerical reviews are also subjective, not objective, unless the outlet/reviewer has some form of rubric or metric that they are using to define their score.
