Revamp v0.09. Before/After Teasers 1 (Patreon)

Hey all,

For those of you not in the nutcase tier, today we're going to be looking at some Before/After teasers that were recently covered in my most recent video Devlog. If you're interested in the expanded edition of that, you can find it here.

And.. the video log contains a first look at a new animation that we'll be seeing in v0.09. I've never shown early concept animations yet but thought I'd try it out and so far, people have been really receptive to it.

For everyone else, let's jump right into the teaser discussion:

Pic 1: So this first pic shows off the first time we see Braden in the jock strap from the original game. To refresh your memory, it's sort of a mindlessly rambling Braden who's undressing and not really paying much attention to what he's wearing. Like many of the original game scenes, this picture looks pretty hollow and has the typical boring frontal camera shots that litter the original game. So let's jump to the replacement 'cause there's some new things to discuss here.

Pic 2: So over on the Discord, I showed off a new idea I had for a color change to the jock strap. While i don't like just changing things to change them, having Braden in the same color scheme through most of the game seemed kinda lame. Many of you, myself included, were fans of Braden's white hoodie scenes in the game but because of my inability to work with white during the early parts of the game, it was very short-lived. So I teased a sample over on the Discord to get some real-time feedback and people went wild. I also want to mention that I'm very careful with outfit changes in the revamp since we already know what these character look like and wear. I don't want many changes there. However, changing the color on the jock seemed like a good opportunity to make Braden's color scheme less monotonous throughout the entire game. Plus, my color blind ass can actually see this outfit so that's kinda reassuring to me. 

So this new pic has the change in jock color as well as more dynamic camera angles and use of depth-of-field again. We still have undressing scenes like before and these are going to look way better just like you've come to expect from everything you've seen in the revamp so far.

Pic 3: This 3rd pic is from the original game and is more of a placeholder pic to demonstrate that most conversations in the original game used the same pics over and over again. That being said, I'm cool doing that when the time is right but I also wanna mix it up a bit to make the visuals more interesting. I also went off on a tangent in the video devlog about how it's always fucking daylight in the room except when they're sleeping. At this point people we can just assume the college is on the North Pole with like 10 minutes of darkness each day, lol. 

Pic 4: So to combat the daylight problem, we have more lighting changes in the Revamp. This brief scene is something I worked really hard on and is probably one of the sexiest teases we've seen. The revamp uses a lot of blur to frustrate the reader along with Zack while Braden is undressing in the room. This scene is going to capitalize on that but this time we're getting a reflection of it-- which from a technical perspective is actually a pretty complicated shot but I think I pulled it off and it was super fun to work on. The revamp is going to use new visuals to try and wake up the reader a bit when there's more important  conversations happening. I love this scene. Love it! Definitely one of my favs so far and it's a really good example of this interest I have in capturing every day kinda activities in the room that make things feel more realistic.

Pic 5: Pervy Route Night scenes. So this shot from the original game shows that iconic night time scene. It's ok but I also thought the gravity of this scene means that it needed some more love in the revamp. The problem was trying to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with it. The original night shots are dark and sorta boring. Lighting was definitely a weakness of mine and that shows in the original game. To the point that I actually had to write the difficult of lighting into the story to try and cover up how bad I was at it (Zack's frustration with how dark the room is was actually my frustration with how dark the room was from a development standpoint). So let's jump to the replacement shot so we can talk about the direction I'm going now.

Pic 6: This is a sample from the Revamp Pervy choice. Yes, it's still dark and I really wanted to keep that darkness because it was part of the original game-- even tho it was purposely written into the story because of my limitations. However, eagle-eyed fans may remember the desk lamp being on during the early parts of the revamp-- something that was planned to play a factor in this scene from the beginning. Now we're going to have a dark room but a little variation in lighting using the desk lamp just to make it more interesting. This scene is also going to be insanely expanded visually to show more of both characters in the room. The depth-of-field changes are also pretty interesting and should help add to the sexual tension.

And... to improve this scene better, it will actually have a 60fps animation included. My full video Devlog shows off my test copy of this animation at a much lower sample rate so it's pretty grainy but I wanted to show my concept that I'm honestly pretty proud of. But the finished copy (which still isn't finished rendering) will look just as good as the other animations you've seen in the revamp.
