A few hours after posting the news about the unusable dies, I remembered that I had a dead Ajax board from which I had already taken the 007232 sound chips.

I didn't immediately update the post because I wasn't sure what had caused the decap failure, so the new attempt could have given the same (bad) results.

The rain was supposed to stop for an hour this evening so I prepared the chips, and quickly got outside to boil them as soon as the weather looked ok. This time I went for precise amounts of acid, and the same duration and temperature I had used recently for other chips.

Bad news turned into good news: no blue tint at all, no FUZ ("F***ed Up Zone" as I like to call accidental nicks around the edges) and perfectly clear metal traces under the microscope !

Work can be resumed, here we go for the 051960 :)

Thanks to those who proposed their help to find dead PCBs or bare chips. I should have checked my pile of e-waste before breaking out the news. My bad !
