She didn’t want to get into a snark contest with her AI. It was nearly akin to talking to oneself, so she turned and began to fetch the materials. A few minutes later, the machine was humming away and producing the repair schematic.

It was almost anti-climactic. “That’s it? Once it is done, do I just drop it in the main fab and activate it?”

[Affirmative: Repair schematic cube will fully repair the damaged module it was designed for.]

“Great. While that’s processing, let’s go over whatever new defense tools we can make with the full fab? Something that isn’t military locked and preferably with high enough stopping power to stop a Rockslasher?” Talia asked.

[Notice: No unlocked, non-military defense schematic meets User requirements. However, Cortex Inc. can offer the following defense solutions for civilian usage.]

As her HUD lit up with the choices, Talia whispered under her breath, “I knew it.”

Talia frowned at every item on the list. “How are these not fucking military grade?” Her eyes flashed between each one with a growing concern. The question was rhetorical. As she glanced at the specifications, the Cortex turrets outperformed all the military schematics she’d seen earlier. There was really no reason the military ones should have been locked!

[Notice: All schematics presented are proprietary Cortex Inc technology, purchasable by User in return for Cortex Scan Credits.]

“We can’t afford any of them.” Talia said.

[Informative: While the credit cost of each turret is relatively high, each one comes with a printing limit of ten units.]

“Oh great, we don’t even get unlimited uses out of them. If that’s the case, can we just license one turret for now?” Talia asked.

There was no immediate response, and she turned to look at the countdown on the survival fab. It looked like she was going to be thrust back into exploring and scanning everything she could find again. That probably meant going back into the jungle, because the desert was…a desert and mostly sand and rock.

Which wasn’t worth anything, and she wasn’t about to go looking for a live Rockslasher or…worse.

[Notice: This Unit has negotiated a onetime purchase of a single Cortex Vanguard ADS turret due to extreme threat and danger to User due to insufficient defense systems.]

“Wait. You negotiated? We have a connection to Cortex Inc? Can you send a distress signal?”

[Notice: No outside connection has been established. An internal Cortex Proprietary AI enables all Cortex Scan Affiliate transactions and Schematic unlock processes.]

She wasn’t going to argue. “Okay. Do it. It is the first thing we’ll make on the repaired fabricator.”

There was still an hour before the repair cube was completed and she had some credits remaining. The turret would protect the base. She hoped.

But it was inevitable that she’d need to leave at some point, just to collect resources and scan things if they needed new locked blueprints. The exoskeleton provided her amazing strength, but she needed some type of personal defense, too.

“Neo, is there a rifle schematic or weapon we can make that is compatible with my suit?” Talia asked.

[Notice: Displaying personal weapon and defense schematics.]

[Effect: Personal defense]

[Availability: Unlocked (Civilian Use)]

“Neo…I’ve already figured out the pattern here. Can you just show me the Cortex versions? In the future, don’t bother showing me locked military junk in the future.” Talia said. She rolled her eyes when she saw the list. Cortex Inc. hadn’t even bothered to change the names…

It was exactly what she suspected. The Cortex gear was higher quality than the military stuff, again. “Neo, can you check the specifications on the Assault Rifle and make sure it can deal with something up to a Rockslasher?”

She’d rather have the magazine capacity and rate of fire the PAR had, but she would live with the Sniper Rifle if it couldn’t. She hadn’t exactly had any firearms training other than her multi-tool, and sniping something wasn’t something she was sure was in her skillset.

[Notice: PAR fires a projectile with 18.89 KJ of muzzle energy at a rate of 300 round per minute with negligible recoil. Multiple types of ammunition are available, and a simple armor penetrating round should easily meet User requirements.]

“Okay, great. I’ll take the PAR.” She might have considered the shield generator, but she doubted it would be nearly as useful until she upgraded her suit’s capacitor and battery storage.

Her credits were disappearing really fast, but it was for a good cause. Still, if she was going on a spending spree, she felt the need to be thorough.

“Neo, any upgrades for my multi-tool?” Talia asked.

[Effect: More advanced, faster, and more efficient fabrication]

[Cost: 150 Credits]

[Upgrade: Cortex Multi-tool Extended Battery Module]

Description: The Extended Battery Module allows for longer periods of usage without requiring a recharge, improving the overall efficiency of your multi-tool. Additionally, an internal battery is present that operates at a higher efficiency than standard external rechargeable batteries.

[Effect: Enhanced battery life (Battery capacity 4x), Internal battery(4x)]

[Cost: 200 Credits]

[Upgrade: Cortex Multi-tool Mining Laser MK1]

Description: The Mining Laser MK1 is a basic upgrade for your multi-tool, designed to facilitate efficient mining of basic resources.

[Effect: Improved resource extraction]

[Cost: 100 Credits]

Talia was happy that he hadn’t shoved a list of things she couldn’t purchase. The prices on upgrading her multi-tool were cheaper than weapons, which was nice. She didn’t have many credits left, though, so her eyes fell on the Mining Laser upgrade as the only option.

“Neo, it says that it improves resource extraction, but how exactly?” Talia asked.

[Informative: Mining Laser MK1 upgrade improves the yield of raw minerals extracted by User’s multi-tool. The increase depends on the type of mineral being extracted, but one can expect that the yield for common metals and Durasteel yielding strata to be doubled, while more rare elements such as those used for Advanced Alloys to be increased by approximately 50%.]

“Alright. We’ll take that one since it is the only one we can afford, and with the wreckage running out, we might be going digging soon.” Talia said.

Okay, now she was broke. But she would have a base defense turret, a weapon, and the ability to mine resources faster. Not bad.

The survival fabricator seemed to agree with her mood, because it chimed and opened up to reveal the repair cube.

Talia smiled. “Great timing.”

It would be good if she could make a gun and mount it on the atv or the quad copter. Side note: way to hard to make a sphere skill list in written format. I think it would be more like a shop listing with prerequisites to gate certain upgrades. But I think it would be based on an alternative credit system that is generated similar to crypto. Virtual Hash or VH by crunching data in the AI or the research module to improve existing tech schematics.

1 Dig a hole. Fill with Spikes. Electrify(if possible poison or incendiaries! ) 2 Build Snare if the creature is hanging upside down by his leg his strength means nothing. 3 Dig a hole fill with TAR! 4 Build an Electric fence! 5 build Explosive with shrapnel (to break rocks. yep like Rockslasher) and setup a remote control minefield.
