Uhm Jung Hwa is one of the Korean artists, who were definitely important for the Korean music scene in general and also for the upcoming creation of Kpop, but those times of her early years in career, I wouldn’t call that Kpop. Because not everything from Korea is Kpop and if there is Korean singer, who has their music in the genre of Pop and they sing in Korean, because it’s their native language, they are not Kpop. Kpop is connected to the idol scene and the whole thing of traning system, “idol not being good enough”/idol rappers are not true rappers. And obviously Uhm Jung Hwa went through similar things, because the point of view on idols of Korea has its roots in the point of views on artists of Korea in general. I am basically saying that although I agree she is one of the most key acts of Korea and she is one of those who shaped the Korean music scene in general, I wouldn’t call her a Kpop idol. She just continued with her work even after the era of idols in Korea started/the Kpop was created (H.O.T.’s debut), so because of the fact her genre is Pop, she is easily connected with Kpop idols nowadays.
