I'm really glad that this group actually happened. Seongmin literally said he gave up the idol life after being eliminated in Boys Planet till he got called to be in One Pact. Also glad that Yedam can actually show his vocals here. He tried to show it in Boys Planet but people literally did not pay attention. Except for the position battle which he obviously chose Dance, in the first round he was Vocal 1 in the Love me Right performance. And I noticed in the Engarde practices he was practicing that song also in the Vocal 1 position which is literally the position right below main vocalist. Really happy that people are realizing that he is not just a dancer and also a great vocalist. One Pact has a really defined image and sound from the start and I think this can set them apart. edit: just including also that yes Yedam is an amazing and fierce dancer but the more I see of him with the other members in their content recently he becomes the cutest maknae ever. It's a side I didn't expect from him hahahaha.

It's literally crazy, I just finished watching your reaction to Boy's Planet yesterday and looked up where Jay and Jongwoo were and saw that they debuted not even a week ago in the same group. I was really hoping that you would find out and react to it because of how much you love Jongwoo. I'm so glad that it was such a great debut, for their and your sake

Liv

YES PD DESCRIBED IT EXACTLY 2015-2018 SENTIMENTAL POP VIBES BUT ALSO DISTINCTLY ONEPACTS OWN VIBE, I cant tell you how much I’ve missed narrative or at least film like mvs AND THIS IS PERFECT FOR A DEBUT YES GO AGAINST THE GRAIN (so glad Tag stood his ground and Kangnam caved in to have this be the title track) It could have so easily been a recycle of that era of K-pop but TAG clearly was distinctively inspired to make this, like I can tell this was made with passion and a clear vision & instead of going with what’s on trend or yielding to just making an updated 2023 version of the genre HE KNEW WHEN TO BREAK THE RULES AND MAKE IT ITS OWN NEW MONSTER, he’s mastered such a variety of songs looking at the rest of the album like GOAT and Hot Stuff (which I both LOVE) fit in the environment now in 2023, but Must Be Nice feels timeless + it’s one of those feelings when a group drops something that everything changed, we will see the influence this has on the industry like 5 years from now

Liv

I owe the director and this whole team my LIFE, do you know how many times I think about the bridge of Jay shooting transition into Tag with the dance scene to him being the crow (raven?) on the ground PLAYS ON LOOP IN MY BRAIN All the lighting, acting, edits, and directing were a FEAST and now im full and can die happy Like just look at Jays bed being tied up but making you feel the meaning of the lyrics of them being TIED DOWN, just inspired artistic choices (maybe there have been other cases of the MVs/media having bed tied with rope that I’m not thinking of but seeing it here felt so new)

Cherry

this debut makes me really happy with the end lineup of boys planet. might be a bold thing to say!! but i absolutely love the boys in zb1 and how they all mesh together and the end product that came with each of them being in the group. and i think each of the boys in onepact, as much as they may have deserved being in the top nine in their own right, are perfect for *this* group. i can't imagine them in zb1. i don't want to. i think they fit this group and this concept perfectly.

Liv

I had such a visceral reaction to Yedam and Jay fighting, I FELT THE RAGE AND SADNESS, it felt so desperate and the mood set by their acting helped along with the sinister zoomed out camera angle it felt RAW like?? YEDAM IS CHOKING JAY OUT THIS ISNT A GAME THATS BLOODLUST like that’s dark these aren’t action heroes throwing well executed punches this is brawling &&&& there’s this quiet pause before Yedam first punches him where they’re both breathing heavy and you can see their breath from the cold and just the INTENSITY OF THOSE SCENES

Ebony Coco

You're right about them being heavily involved with this. On their episode of Kangnam's YT show, they talk about how he gives them a lot of freedom and basically just leaves things up to them. The choice to make Must Be Nice their title track was actually TAG's and despite him strongly wanting them to make another song the TT, Kangnam eventually conceded to TAG.

Liv

As Jaehyuk PD always says, having consistent MV film quality/style will make a group stand out and last longer, having the film grain in GOAT and in this will make the scenes more memorable

Tesa

That transition was PERFECT! Love to see someone else appreciating it haha

Hrathen

lmao I see a muscular Ten + Taemin. ngl this isn't the boys who didn't make it in Boys Planet, its the winners who refused to sign the contract

Tesa

Oh yes, I remember the chills I got when Jongwoo's first dance solo appeared...it was unexpected! This entire title track/MV/debut was unexpected tbh but I absolutely love it! All of the members' acting is amazing And yes, Jongwoo's dancing does leave a huge impact but I also have to shout out his vocals (here and throughout the EP). His voice is so round and grounding if that makes sense. I find it to be so impactful!

Alice Kim

Right when the fire is thrown and the feathers go up with the combines warm light, I found it really cool how the feathers gave the impression of fire sparks or cinders without actually being fire.

Anonymous

i stan so many groups but this is probably the best debut album i’ve heard. tag u genius. everyone’s voices r so beautiful together.

Anonymous

The Mv is gorgeous there’s too much to praise.

Serena

im so sad they didn't do any music shows :(( also pd u should def check out their episode on kanhnams yt show. its only tag, jay and seongmin but it was still really fun and gives a great look into their dynamic

Anonymous

They just had one an hour ago! And they will be on inkigayo and music core this week

Serena

omg yess thank god i really wanted to see them on music show

Malaki.H

You know I'm kinda glad yoon jongwoo didn't debut with zb1 because I don't think he would've shined as much as he did in ONEPACT. Like just wow, he is THE star. And he has more freedom to do what he wants in this company, something I don't think would've been the case with zb1.

Tag eating the pineapples is a reference to Chungking Express. In the movie a guy buys 30 cans of pineapples (30 cans r also in the Mv) that all expire may 1st. Once they expire he vows he’ll give up on getting his girlfriend back. By May 1st, he ends up eating all the cans in one sitting 😢.

beannieswife

omg pd i agree with absolutely everything you said, the groups that came into my mind when i heard the song were block b, big bang and seventeen, jay was giving me frikin block b's taeil type of vocals, tag and jongwoos singing rap reminded me of gd since that style was introduced to me by him and bigbangs music, yedam sounded similar to woozi to me and i can't unhear it now😭, i felt so nostalgic, i hope tag and the rest of them continue to get involved in their music. my first thought after watching the mv was "wow, their label or creative team must love them SO much", it's really not easy to come up with a good concept, i've participated in pre-production of films, i've been on set and i know how post production works too, you can only get a product like this mv when you have a team that actually cares of these processes, the direction was magnificent, they seem to believe in the vision of the group and the potential that these boys have, or at least that's what the mv made me feel, i'm so grateful jongwoo debuted here, i'm really looking forward to future comebacks

nadia

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, 100% with you on everything omg. i haven't listened to an album on replay this much since... well, last year's GOT7 (which also has lots of super vibey, emo, sort of retro-sounding, beautiful, dark songs, hmmmm). my theory is that the pineapple is a nod to wong kar-wai's gorgeous 1994 neo-noir, chungking express: the first story in that movie is about a guy who's lovesick over a breakup. he tells himself he'll give his ex a month to be sure they're over, and meanwhile keeps buying pineapple cans that expire on that date when the relationship will "really" end - trying to postpone the inevitable, in denial of his own pain... and if that's what the director used as a reference, i am beyond impressed. (he also keeps calling her house but never talks to her, just her family - because he doesn't want to hear her say they're done-done.) the greek myth from the beginning, of orpheus and eurydice, frames the rest of the mv for me in that sort of specific supernatural context. the myth goes: orpheus, an extraordinary singer/musician begs to bring his beloved wife eurydice back from the dead, so hades makes him a deal: he has to walk out of the underworld through darkness and trust that she's following him without turning around, but she is silent as a shadow (just like tag in that closing shot). so orpheus walks for hours, all the while doubting that she is behind him, and just as he's about to reach the exit, he turns around... and basically kills her the second time. so every shot of someone's back feels poignant - are we following them out of the underworld? do they trust that we're behind them? - and there's a reason they look so stricken when they actually face the camera, because looking back equals damnation. i mean jfc, jongwoo's face near the end just wrecks me. UGH IT'S ART!!!! anyway - several other shots take on a mythical quality too, like that one of jay (i think) looking down into a mirror and then breaking it with his foot, which is like a reverse narcissus: he can't stand what he is. and all the feathers are perhaps a nod to the fall of icarus, who attempted the impossible and got so close to making a miracle happen, but then failed because he was too human... so the slow falling feathers represent grief, and sometimes that pain is so bad it burns... etc. etc. (there is SO MUCH visual storytelling in this mv!!!) thank you for praising the cinematography - i am in love with that grainy noir-ish look, and i love how much it resembles baroque paintings: the darkness, the chiaroscuro, the sepia lights and shadows, all that dynamic tension... i think the only "daylight" happens in that scene with crushing the mirror from above, and then when jay grits his teeth (i... cannot get over his jawline, wtf dude) and shoots tag, and - i mean holy crap, sorry about this essay-length comment but this video has eaten my brain, it is as brilliant as the song, and i can't stop thinking about it. HOW ARE THEY SO EPIC RIGHT OUT THE GATE. <3

nadia

omg this - it's SO intense and dark, and their acting is phenomenal.

nadia

seconded - no, thirded! - on that transition, it is siiiiiiiiick

GreenDragon

holy shit, I hadn't seen anyone explain this. Lots of discussion on the Orpheus/Eurydice storyline, but nothing on the freaking pineapples, lol. Brilliant!

GreenDragon

It's the dichotomy between the sweet sounding beginning of the song, with the melancholic/bitter lyrics and the moody and mournful MV that is making this the best debut of 2023 for me. I also adore that there is a whole story going on but not once do they spell it out for you. They are assuming that the viewers are intelligent and can do research and come to our own conclusions and theories about what is happening. So smart, so subversive.

GreenDragon

Jongwoo knows that people were expecting "Back Door" charismatic dancer Jongwoo, so they put out performance vids. Then he said and here's some art.

WiseSmellyLegs

I mentioned it before that I am not into groups created of eliminated contestants from survival shows. I mean, I don’t mind them debuting, I mind that their companies use the popularity of the member(s) and add to them their trainees, who are not always trained enough yet. But… when it comes to Yedam, I cannot not to pay attention to his career! Like… right after LOUD I started to follow his profile and although it seemed like he would focus on dancing career only rather than being an idol, I was dedicated to support him and see him growing anyway! Right after Koki, who was my number 1 in LOUD, Yedam, EunHwi and Daniel were sharing the number 2 for me so equally 🫱🏽‍🫲🏾🙏🏽 😅 Obviously when I heard he was about to debut in a group created of Boys Planet contestant, I wasn’t sure how to feel about that, because of my perspective to this, which I mentioned above. But! I found out it is not like the company would add quickly/rushed trained trainees to the eliminated contestants. I found out all of them (apparently even Tag, who left the show before airing) were in Boys Planet, so I thought: “🤔🤔 okay, interesting case” and since it seemed like it would be one time thing, I didn’t mind it that much. But! (Again 😅) It was announced they would not be a one time thing, so I started to look for any info about the label, because it seemed like it is brand new label and I didn’t want Yedam to debut under some label, which is created by some random greedy businessman, who just wants to get on the hype train of Kpop. And… 😅😅 I found out the CEO is apparently Kangnam, so my mind went: “Wait… that Kangnam? The former idol of M.I.B? Like from the group to which I listened to in my early years?? So since he was an idol as well, he might treat these boys good??” Basically by every information it seemed to be better and better 🙏🏽🙏🏽 Obviously I was glad for JongWoo as well, because I knew about him from you. But I wasn’t able to finish Boys Planet, because I realized Mnet survival shows aren’t for me, so after Yedam was out I ended watching it as well. Why am I saying all of this? Basically I wouldn’t think I would be able to like this kind of group this much! I am amazed! The only thing I would like this group to have is one more rapper like Tag. I mean I like the formation of five. In general formations of 5 and 3 are my favorite ones, so I don’t want to add a member and at the same time I don’t want to be mean and kick out someone 😅😅 I like the “duality factor” of the rappers like in BIGBANG G-Dragon and T.O.P and although Ateez has more members we have there Mingi and HongJoong, then for example in B.A.P Yongguk and Zelo. I read on profile sites that JongWoo may be the second rapper here, but to be honest I prefer his singing voice. (I mean in general, not in this song only obviously, this song is meant to be without major rap lines, just those “sprechstimme lines” (talk singing into the rhythm)

Yedam is officially called Baby Yedam to me. The way I'm not even sure if he knows his own age at this point, because the maknae be maknaeing HARD. The difference between the guy on LOUD and BP to the Yedam we see with his members today is actually the biggest surprise of this group to me. Best thing is how the other members not only embrace it, but encourage it. Yedam/Jongwoo is officially my Father/Son duo and I LOVE it.

Tesa

Wow so many references I missed! Thank you for this! The director was really inspired

formoftherapy

I actually believe that YEDAM could be that rapper to compliment TAG if he tried. I REALLY like how he developed his tone. Also, you and I share the exact same sentiment and worry towards YEDAM debuting 😂 I was worried sick until someone said “yo Kangnam is the ceo” like I was worried even after I saw their performance videos still. I didn’t want them to be “used” and then thrown away to the side but mannn the music and music video indicate a really INTERESTING moody future 🥹

formoftherapy

Someone gets it. Like there were AMAZING videos this year… But I think anyone who’s worked in productions will tell you… ONEPACT music and videos only happen born out of passion and love from the whole team

formoftherapy

Oh wow. I just watched Chungking like six months ago! I totally forgot about that segment. Ima be honest I mainly remember Tony Leung’s scenes.

nadia

random tidbit: tony leung's storyline was referenced in the m/v BEGIN by yoojung from onlyoneof - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBx_9nygxaQ

nadia

my absolute pleasure - something new pops out every time i watch it, i swear, they did an INCREDIBLE job with it

Ebony Coco

Yeah, they talked about how he's different from other CEOs and is open-minded. I love Kangman's dynamics with them, especially TAG. He seems to have an almost friend-like vibe with him despite the age gap and him being his CEO. His dynamic with Jay is just funny.

Alex P

Yedam was my favorite contestant on LOUD and my BP pick prior to elimination. I could not be happier to see him debut!

Marco Gennuso

Brilliant reaction for a brilliant group! I just bought their debut album today! I haven't seen LOUD yet but I'll be watching it soon. Love The New Six. Everyone in One Pact is a star in their own right, so I can’t wait to see what they do next 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Temi

The whole album is so amazing! I love their music! It is kind of mix between new trends with older kpop sounds. Also they are so vocally and dance talented!

Lesley Tran

im so happy I happened to be in japan during their first fan showcase. I damn right cried seeing all of them and coming probably about 5 feet from them during the fan meeting. Honestly am so happy that they were my first experience with a kpop group in person. They made it feel so intimate and fun. Also whoever won that necklace that Jongwoo was wearing at the showcase... I just wanna talk.

Lesley Tran

Oh and something I forgot to mention about the showcase, I was sitting right behind yedams whole family. It was so sweet they all came to finally see him debut

Maca

this is such a late comment, but this song/video reminds me a bit of seventeen's japanese releases. very emotional

Emma

its not working:(
