We're starting up a new drama club! I explain why I chose this drama in the beginning of the video!

Note: After the end of the episode I sort of start rambling when I talk about my life because when I filmed this I had taken the 2nd dose of my covid vaccine a few days ago and I was pretty hopped up on pain meds and by the end of the video I was sort of losing my ability to form coherent thoughts lmao. So if the end turns weird or doesn't make sense; that's why!

Also, as with all our Drama Club episodes the first episode is free for ALL patreon tiers but if you want to continue following the show along with us it'll be for SUMMER patrons and up!

Malaki.H

here we go, i kind have mixed feelings about this drama, like i both love and hate it

Malaki.H

now the IT drama i think is vincenzo, although i havent watched it yet

Malaki.H

i actually hate BOTH the women lol

Doyoungismyult

Here we go 😩 I hate so much about this drama. I extremely hate the female lead and her way of thinking

Ena

I've put off watching this drama because of the mixed reaction so it'll be interesting watching it the first time now and seeing the opinions of pd, meghan, and all the ppl in the comments lol

Harley

There are so many mixed views on this drama that I'm so curious to see your reaction! I personally love it as a whole even if some of the characters are very questionable and also as someone who generally has a hard time enjoying most kdramas Also funny you mention Sammy because he does the song in the intro lol. But the ost is really interesting mix of artists like V from BTS, Crush, Gaho, and VeriVery

Anonymous

I dropped this halfway through because of the female lead but I might watch again with you

Anonymous

i actually love this drama. ik a lot of people hate it but it’s one of my favorites

Sham Sham

same this and its okay to not be okay are easily in my top 5 kdramas I've sen so far

Irving

yesss itaewon class I'm excited to watch it again with you, I love this drama

Serena

yesss excited to rewatch this with you. i actually liked the drama a lot

Connor (Cyndr)

By the way, Oh Soo Ah, the girl in this episode, is played by Kwon Nara, formerly of Hello Venus.

rockthekazb0t

Yeah, it was Flower of Evil, now it's Vincenzo. Tbh, I hoped they would watch FoE 😅 or even waited and watch Imitation when it starts

Connor (Cyndr)

And yeah, I think this episode is definitely very confusing with no context on the show itself. However, I kind of love that this is just a raw, emotional look into the events that impact the life of someone as simple and honest as Park Seroyi.

Leen

I loved this drama but the ending wasn’t great to me

Amanda Araujo

i dont like both the female leads but the drama itself was one of my favorites and every episode got me excited and longing for the next just because the history its so good and i love Saeroyi's character along with the others who work with him so besides the liking the female leads issue i don't really get why there are so many ppl who don't like the show as a whole

Angie

i love the first 5 episodes, the middle 5 were eh, then there were some gems and then the ending was trash.

MsMercedes

I'll admit I never got past episode 12 of this drama. I didn't get spoiled but I felt like all of the negative discourse that people were having around it was actually affecting my enjoyment which is very unusual for me. so I decided to stop and give it some space before trying to watch it again and make up my own mind. I think I'll enjoy watching with you PD because whether you like or dislike something I feel like the conversation is always productive and will give me a lot more space to decide how I feel about it.

firstwoii

Despite the mixed reception I truly believe this drama is worth finishing.

smatmit

I'm curious to see how I'll feel on a rewatch, I got so bogged down in how much I hated every romantic b-plot that it kind of ruined large parts of my experience with the show

eh idk about the people that don't like this show as a whole. It's easily one of the best kdramas to come out in the last few years. I get that it's not perfect in any way and there will be several things that people might not like depending on personal taste but the good things about this show outweigh the flaws by miles and the problems only arise when you nitpick based on your personal taste.

Irene K

omg me too. both the FL's annoyed me to death when they were acting only driven by their "love" for seroyi. Like can't we have FL who don't do everything just for a man?

Delphine Vdh

The guy with the glasses who was being bullied is the same actor as the serial killer in hotel del Luna!

Nanathathalielie

At 01:14:05 when you talk about the singer sounding like Sammy from the Rose, that is actually him. The song is called "You Make Me Back" 😉

Daniella Heart

PD I think u should watch Penthouse it’s a drama literally abt rich people private ogre poor people and how they can get away with anything because of their money. I’m watching it right now and it pisses me off so much but it’s a really good drama.

Irene K

penthouse is so ridiculous yet so good. Its literally addicting

I think this drama was very refreshing and in a lot of ways revolutionary for korean dramas. It went against the current and really tried something new and outside of the typical korean dramas mold/recipe. I think this is why this kdrama is so widely praised and liked amongst people who have watched many kdramas and are so used to the usual tropes and storylines because this one felt different and refreshing in comparison. However, while it did attempt to "be more" than just your average drama and make some poignant and valid criticisms about korean society (but honestly could be applied to any society really), I think it fell short of doing it right. While it was good to see representation and that it was starting conversations about taboo subjects in society, it unfortunately never really went past surface level. Despite its shortcomings, it should still be praised for even attempting to tackle these topics especially since it could have easily backfired with the korean audience. They tried really hard to tackle many subjects about racism, identity, mental illness, etc; but never really went too deep and past surface-level into any of these subjects. Instead, these topics were portrayed very unrealistically and stereotypically (even problematic at times), and I believe that is where the biggest failure lies. I was disappointed because I think you can really see how they tried to make this kdrama into something more "deep" or "profound" but ultimately failed. However, while they failed to really deliver in this aspect for me, for entertainment purposes I think it is still a very solid choice but not to be taken too seriously. It was still enjoyable despite the shortcomings and I guess also a valiant effort that they even tried something relatively new in comparison to the vast majority of kdrama storylines.

Julianne

I absolutely did NOT finish this. This was a watch-with-friends drama (and then covid 19 happened so we never finished) and it wasn't good enough for me to continue on my own. I'm probably absolutely in the minority but I LOVE the second female lead (in the first 5-6 eps I watched...) and really did not like the main female lead yet. I think the second female lead makes for a much more interesting character. And she's ultimately in the end, a good person. And I appreciate that she struggles to make morally "correct" decisions. Being a good person is not easy for her. She's really jaded, bitter, realistic, but the main lead character makes her a better person morally. I like it.

Julianne

In contrast, the main female character just sort of falls flat and not as well written, in my opinion. It's Ok to Not Be Ok clearly showed that it's possible to create an "unlikable" character who's still intriguing and develops to be sympathetic and lovable too. This female lead was... none of that.

Julianne

Idk the second female lead isn't likable either, but I find her a better character. I end up liking her more. And honestly... I wouldn't knock down a homeless man, but in real life, if me, an underage female student with no family or security other than the orphanage I grew up in, were grabbed by a man, homeless or not, I'd freak out and be defensive. For the drama's sake, we see the old man as powerless and in the position of a victim, but in real life, I wouldn't blame her. She didn't like go out of her way to shove him down the stairs. He literally grabbed her wrist and she yanked herself away. Yeah she was rude but honestly to me it doesn't make her shit... ... Like. It's hard to explain. I think she was ass for causing the homeless man to fall, but I also see where she's coming from. It's perhaps cold of me, but being weary of strangers has been hammered into me. She totally should have handled it better (which is what makes her mean) like going around him, giving a wide berth, avoiding him to begin with. But ultimately, there's no absolute whether someone who looks like an old homeless man is also capable of doing harm. It's hard to judge and she handled it too extremely imo. But at the end of the day I would have made a judgement call to be weary about him. There's a difference between seeing an old homeless man and making a choice to help or not, vs being sprung up on and being forced to make a decision. I would go out of my way to try to be actively nice to ppl because I'm privileged in this case and they're not, but if I'm not prepared for it, like yeah I'll be defensive.

Julianne

Like if I met her in real life, tbh I would absolutely NOT be her friend. She's rude, generally mean, but she's also in a tough position. WHICH doesn't excuse her, but also makes her just one of the billion ppl struggling through life who can be mean and careless with worlds and insensitive and often succumb to corrupt systems for security. And the fact that she IS one of the masses yet she also ends up being a good person in the end who can make good, positive decisions... I find that hopeful and empowering and comforting to know. It's nice that Saeroyi was a light in her life and showed her that even as selfish and realistic as she is, she can make kind decisions too.

Marcela Pereira

I couldn't finish it. It made so frustrated, SO SO frustrated lol but i'm gonna watch it with you and finish it *hopefully* I tried to with IOTNBO but it triggered my anxiety so i couldn't do it, but i'm ok with this one.

kelly

i like sooah a lot more than the main female lead i cant stand her lmfao

Daniela Hawkins

For me its REALLY hard to get into dramas when I don't like the characters and there's only like 3 characters I liked but they were side characters that didn't get as much focus as the characters I really didn't like, the female leads. I do like Saeroyi's character but I just never got into any of his interactions with the female leads which makes it hard to love his character when the character is so intertwined with the female leads. Honestly if they just focused more on some of the side characters and had not gone the romantic route with the female lead and focus more on the Saeroyi and Dae Hee plot rather than the romance plot line I probably would have liked it. As is despite having things I DID like about the show, the terrible female leads play such a big role that I can't dismiss them as a small flaw.

Wiktor

ahaha The Promised Neverland comment 😂 PD are you up to date with that anime? did you like it? :o also did you know the concept for Given-Taken was based on that anime? 🤭

Anonymous

PD please continue this. ive watched this twice now and would love to watch with you!

Legacy

Thanks for this PD, love your reaction as always and "blaire" as well haha. I did want to mention that I felt uncomfortable when you called her a bitch... but I respect your right to free thought and speech. I think your perspective is really interesting and regarding sympathy. I also found it so funny how you kept pointing out who didn't look like they were in school LOL!

Yelena

Every time she repeats that she doesnt want to be like saeroyi or his dad its like shes trying to convince herself. She wants to be like them but she knows its not the easiest way to live and so she convinces herself she doesn't want to.

Yelena

i officially hate those camera angles they arent allowed anymore! i wont have it I just want the single parents to live past episode 1 😔

Yelena

"but he took my everything" like omg imma crY like its even more emotional when the mc isn't saying that about a romantic interest
