This whole drama took a month's time by now. I see a lot of people grinning virtually, and I must admit that I'm not the youngest anymore and I'm not always up to date with the latest computer technology, and I know as well, that my experiences with computers since 1980 are not helpful when not getting the necessary actual information, which are important for such an 'open heart surgery' on an computer, like I did several times in the last days. But it was not my fault. A manufacturer wrote that his motherboard would be able to wok with a special new processor of a special brand (no names, even negative advertising is still advertising), so I believed it and purchased this motherboard. Troubles with USB ports made me some bad days, so I sent back that board and got the same model again. The technicians of that dealer confirmed that error. Then I discovered that the processor can not work with that board completely and got me another processor. Again the manufacturer wrote that this would work. It didn't, the PC didn't even boot. So I got another motherboard again and that is capable to work with that processor. As side effects I had to purchase a new power adapter, new DRAMs, a new midi tower (the old case was too small for the huge processor cooler, I kept getting bloody fingers while screwing around, so the new case is a bit larger now), a new graphics card, two new SSDs and lots of thermal pads. And my Linux had been upgraded way too often, made a complete new installation. And as a last low blow the motherboard, that is working now, was NOT new. The package was open, the cover of the board without any adhesive tape, several scratches on some plastic parts. This big online dealer has become famous for doing this within the last years, to sell returns as new goods. That means I'll have to be cautious if anything doesn't work properly, it might be that somebody else had problems before and now it's on me to find out what it's been. One for sure, this was my last purchase at that shop. Currently I'll only have to figure out how to make the DRAM run as fast as it could. There have to be made some settings in the BIOS, because it's unable to use this DRAM with the fastest possible speed by itself. But sooner or later I'll find it out, as I always did. A little side effect was that I had to punch a new hole into my belt, seems that I have lost some weight in the last weeks.

If somebody would ask me which brand for motherboards I could recommend, I would have to answer "sorry, I can't". In the last decades I've had all of the leading brands and not one was able to learn from errors. When they make something better, something else got worse, that's something they all have in common. That and a not very helpful support, if they offer that at all.

I'll get back to work asap.

Thank you all very much for your patience with me and your generous support!

Bear hug!

Take care, stay healthy!
