John, you forgot not to skip the "Carry On My Wayward Son" recap, AGAIN?!? 😝

For me it’s hard to be impartial since I know what’s coming and what all this set up. I enjoyed this episode (though not one of my favorites). I am kind of bummed that y’all were so disappointed as you seemed to enjoy the rest of the season.

I actually liked this Finale. I know some fans had a problem with the whole Amara flip, so suddenly, but it didn't bother me too much. She could see her destruction by the way the roses turned black & died with her touch, and the conversation with the old lady (who was great BTW) helped her to see that what her brother had created was a wonder. She was so busy destroying before Creation and after her release, that she didn't "stop to smell the roses". It's a gentle, quiet Finale that is rare in SPN. Of course it doesn't come without it's conundrum, namely the whole British Men of Letters and their hostility against the Winchesters. Not gonna lie, I didn't like how Lady Bevell's arrival and story kept interupting the whole 'soul bomb' situation. And to this day I'm not sure how I feel about Mary coming back. Their whole lives were based on the evil that killed her, but now that she's back will that throw the boys into a whirlwind about their hunting? There is a third storyline brewing out there for S12 - namely, where is Lucifer? Is he still alive? If so, what vessel? What are his plans? If he died where did he go? The Empty? The Cage again? AND WHY IS ADAM STILL IN THE CAGE!!!!

Joking aside, I actually forgot about the british lady thing started in this ep. before I started watching this😂, but yeah I get your point with the "missing umph", I looked more at all this final 4 eps as the finale as supouse just this final ep, but even this ep had some great symbolism, with the show being about this 2 brothers, the Universe started with 2 siblings, and even the discussion happening in a Garden of Eden looking place where we had a inbetween story of this 2 beings that were conisdered divine but became humans, so maybe not the most exciting finale, but I thought it had alot to give, british lady thing aside and we'll get to that later.

I feel a bit like you guys when I watch this finale, the anticlimaticness of it was a little bit of a let down, especially after a season full of solid episodes you would expect this to be something a bit more. For me my favourite thing about this show and what kept me in it was I loved the codependency of the brothers and how they keep basically destroying the world for each other even though they try so hard to save it and everyone, they will always choose each other it seems.

So... I haven't watched this yet and do not know if this is mentioned in the recap or known. Jeremy Carver, the showrunner since S8, did not write the finale as they usually do. He was writing the pilot for "Frequency" and busy with that at the time. So the last 2 episodes were given to Andrew Dabb, who is co-showrunning with Robert Singer for the last few seasons. You can definitely feel the difference, although I actually like the last couple of episodes of this season. S11 was a great, and did very well in the ratings. It seemed like the show got some of it's spark back - and that's not to say that it didn't have any. It was always good, but there was a pizazz that was lacking at times. I don't know how else to describe it. Anyway, turns out that Robert Singer stepped back from the (silent) co-showrunner capacity for most of it until Jeremy left. I'm presenting that fact without additional commentary, as your mileage may vary. But I will say this, (according to his own words) Singer is a character driven writer that lets the plot unfold on it's own, while the rest prefer to focus on putting the characters in the stronger plot lines and allowing them to do their thing. Knowing that helped me understand some of the hits and misses, or why certain things within the show didn't make sense. "Robert Singer was a writer, director and producer of the series Supernatural. Singer had been working on the show in a co-showrunner capacity since Season 1. He was often credited for a lot of Dean's one liners and is married to writer Eugenie Ross-Leming. In Season 11, Singer took a step back from the show, taking on an executive consultant position. With Season 12, Singer returned to executive producer/showrunner duties alongside Andrew Dabb." https://supernatural.fandom.com/wiki/Robert_Singer https://www.cinemablend.com/television/Supernatural-Having-Major-Shake-Up-Behind-Scenes-138397.html

It's my first time watching as well and I've stayed on pace with you guys throughout the season. I was disappointed as well and its frustrating given the caliber of the rest of the season. It just wasn't a fitting end in my opinion. But I will say that by far my favorite thing that did come from this is that we now have Cas back! And Dean calling him a brother was just the best 🥹🥰 It was still a great season as a whole and I'm excited to see what season 12 will offer. Also, this is random, but I just love that your cats walk about in the background, there's just something so comforting about it 🥰 Anyways, thanks as always for your honest thoughts 🖤

The season 11 finale is what happens when Andrew Dabb writes without a co-writer. He can do better, but it's usually when there's a co-writer. He tends to not think the things you brought up are important. I think part of the problem is that the finale episode was rushed. It would have done better to be split into 2 episodes, so that there could be more development.

2023-05-18 10:03:43 I was so bored and disappointed with this finale (& majority of season 11). I have my opinions and thoughts as to why I felt this way, but I hope you both enjoy 12 (honestly do not know anything about it/didn't watch).
