One of my favorite episodes 🥺

Great reaction, this was such a good Christmas special! The description of Christmas/mid-winter celebrations generally as being "halfway out of the dark" is one that stuck with me, I like that a lot. FWIW, this season you're coming into is, I think, my favourite of DW. I really really love having both Amy & Rory as companions, and everything that comes with it. 💜

Glad you liked this one. IMO it’s the first of the strong Xmas episodes. Only one poor one out of the next few. I love Katherine Jenkins. Lovely singer. As an opera lover, I knew who she was, but it took me quite a while to recognise the face at the time as I did not expect to see her acting (not that she was obscure or anything - being photogenic, she was one of the singers more likely to appear on TV). I was never very clear why she had only 8 days. Was she sick enough to only have 8 days to live? (In which case she wouldn’t make very good collateral for a debt and we saw no symptoms of sickness). Or do they only get 8 unfreezing (in which case, why did she know and the boy didn’t?)

I think you're right in that Amy gives The Doctor the *eyes* more than Rory, but I think while she has a crush and a flirt with the Doctor, she ultimately loves Rory.

Personal fav Christmas episode, yet to be surpassed although others do come close 👌

Also love the quote “Blimey, do you know in 900 years of time and space I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t important”

I love your comparison to Del Toro's work I never thought about it but the resemblances strike me now. Even if I love the previous Doctors and the T. Davis era christmas episodes, starting from this christmas special i was hooked to the specials! It conveys so much magic to this day. Also about the facts: does the last one mean Abigail actually doesn't die at the end of the day or that she just doesn't die onscreen, because her death is kind of implied, isn't it? I really enjoy those facts, i still discover things about this beloved show to this day, FANTASTIC! And my favourite quote from the whole series is in this episode: "In 900 years of time and space and I've never met anybody who wasn't important before" *eye sweat intensifies*

Notice how the doctor tells him in the beginning whatever happens from then on "you brought upon yourself." But then, in the end, it was the doctor who created essentially the same bitter person out of him. Nothing would have changed if they didn't show his younger self who he became. And I love how they explore the idea of who "chooses" when people die and when they can be saved. Such an interesting thing to explore next to the doctor, who rejoices in anyone he can help and any time he is given. Always focused on anything he can do to buy time, save time, and save people. Compelling themes, performances, and writing. Great episode!

I think it was from years of playing Dumbledore that whenever Michael Gambon sees a child disrespecting him, he yells and tries to slap him. HARRYDIDYOUPUTYOURNAMEINTHRGOBLETOFFIRE?!
