The machine turned out out better than I expected! Also cover some good ground with this one, imo.

Also features some half-baked hot takes for gambling and AI art! The fun doesn't stop!

Here's the link to the Flicker Controller image.

The break it down into smaller projects both feels really obvious but it's actually really great advice, especially if you're feeling overwhelmed starting a new project, just start by making a cool wall you're proud of and build from there.

Modelling a slot machine is of zero interest to me but the tutorial is excellent and I have learned techniques that I love and will use Thanks my good man. 👍

Hey Ian, I’m the one that commented on your last video if I could ask you some questions for a university presentation, have you seen my patreon message?

Love it! Would love to more of those “projects” for this scene as it comes together.

Thanks Ian for that cool little video! I love 'em all the time! I'm just here in the comments to try and share the knowledge I get from spending my time trying to make efficient procedural stuff with the lowest amount of noise. So when you want to randomise the animation for each objects, if you already put those keyframes in the mapping coordinates node, the best way to do it would be to put a Vector Math, before or after the mapping, set to add (because adding is basically moving the coordinates around) and plug that Random output in the Combine XYZ. You just get rid of 2 nodes (regular math node and value node) and don't have to redo the animation or put the #frame driver. It's not much but it does save at least 4 seconds!! Anyway just hope it helped at least a bit haha, have a nice end of your day

Just wanted to say that it's nice to see someone who shares my position on AI in general.

I'm always in awe at how free and loose you use the UV editor to map existing images onto your models. You are totally right, of course - nobody can tell later if it's just a little background element. One of the most important lessons I'm taking from your videos is that I need to relax and try to not obsess over tiny background elements.

On the topic of AI, I use it a lot to create textures and all kinds of random stuff for my blender projects. Since casinos look so fun to make in Blender because you can reuse the same assets and still keep the realism, I decided to make one. Anyway, the point is, I used Midjourney to create like an atlas for the slot machine symbols and on the first go I got something very usable. The prompt I entered was: "orthographic image of slot machine symbols aligned, texture, black backgoround." this is the result on the first try which i find kinda crazy: https://imgur.com/YRYmwmY

Hey Ian , in the last shot did you animate the camera movement by hand in addition to camera shakify? It looks pretty convincing!

That's pretty cool. They have some kind of medieval vibe, with the vaguely religious icons and muted colors. There's definitely a case to be made for using AI to generate large amounts of background stuff, especially since you don't have to worry about copyright (On paper at least. There's obviously giant conversations to be had about that aspect).

I love these prop modeling videos

The fact that Ian is basically modeling, texturing, and everything in cycles rendered view, says a lot about how powerful his PC is AND how far Cycles has come!

Hi Ian, I'm a big fan, paid member every month from july 1 2020 until now!~ Currently, I am the owner of a Blender group in Vietnam with more than 10,000 members. Just a stupid passing thought but could you post something on my group? Even a greeting is wonderful. Everyone in my group is your fan, I think they'll go crazy haha. Here is my group link on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/blender3dvn Thank you so so much! Love you!!!
