Made an environment for Dynamo Dream yesterday. It was just going to be a single window, but then I modeled a sort of facade, then realized I could duplicate the whole thing to make kind of a multi-tiered deal, and it was too fun to stop.

You might notice this was made almost entirely out of stuff in the "Pipes and Little Metal Bits" asset pack I posted a couple weeks ago, and if you look longer than a second you start to see little copied-n-pasted bits- but the final shot will probably only be 3 seconds or so in the finished film, so folks won't have long to look :)

It's nice to get momentum back into trying to wrap up that episode! I have a few big tasks left to go, but it really does look like I can release it early summer, which is incredibly exciting. This first episode ended up taking 16+ months so far, which is (as always) way longer than I planned to spend on it. It's a weird exercise in delayed gratification, but the actual gratification of a finished project is always... very nice.

[ALSO- I posted some rain texture assets here a bit ago, but immediately after I did, Cassie Jones commented a rad tip that basically made a third of the video obsolete, so I decided to update the post with improved files/explanatory video. THAT SAID- my brain is, apparently, absolute mush right now, and the videos were a babbling mess, so I'll re-upload everything tomorrow when I have my wits about me! Extreme apologies to those of you who got email notifications! I'll get it all back up quick, new and improved!

It looks like a painting. If I didn't know better, I'd say you spent 5 hours doing a paint-over. I also loved the black/white version you posted on IG yesterday. I would love to know more about the painting look.

how do you make the looks? I mean the color grading.

This is so rad Ian, fantastic job!

Wait, so dynamo episodes don't take you 1 minute?

How did you achieve that lovely glow? A paint-over in AE?

Really cool, thanks Ian!

I don't this time :/ I started with one, but it made me feel weirdly rushed, and I kind of just wanted to fool around with it (also I kept toggling back over to patreon to respond to some messages and stuff). I do have an extended "full scene" timelapse I should upload soon here, though!

i could easily watch a 3 hour video of you goofing around with an idea, even if you then decide to scrap the whole thing!

That's so cool Ian, 30 years ago I worked at the Manukau city council in the water works department. Our depot looked nothing like that but really wished it did!
