This is an explanation of the cans asset I just released at the "clearance 7" level, but it also has a breakdown of shenanigans you can do with the "Object Info" random input node, which as been a ridiculously fun thing to play with over the past few months.

If you actually know blender nodes, I suspect my workflow is pretty cringe inducing, but if not... it's hopefully useful??

Super stuff!!!! Be nice to see how you apply different labels to different cans. 💯

Thanks Chip! And yeah, I can put that together! It's basically just offsetting the mapping of a separate UV layer- I'll send you a vid!

Can vs Windows 10 update. Who will win!

Jan van den Hemel

I'm surprised by how easy that turned out to be!

Me too! I mean- things start to fall apart really quick if I try anything more complex than that, but I'm slowly learning!

thank you so much for making this man!

This is great. It's amazing how powerful and versatile Blender is. I've been using 3DS Max for decades and it seems kinda clunky now by comparison. It's like a WW2 Aircraft carrier where they keep bolting on modern weapons and comms but all the structure, plumbing and electrics are still from the 1940s.

Man yeah! Blender's just taken off over the past couple years (especially this last year)- it had the same thing; infrastructure set up in the mid 90s that didn't really make sense anymore, but they just kept doing things a bit inefficiently to keep making it work, and as far as I understand, 2.8 was a big rebuild to phase out a lot of that old infrastructure, and the results have been pretty wild. The realtime eevee engine in particular has literally reshaped how I think about the CG process; lighting, texturing, and modeling are all mixed together now, which is just a totally different way of thinking. I love it.
