A couple things! This season does get into their backstories. But! It's spread out through the comedy arcs, before it gets into the full serious arcs. This arc has a bit of the backstory for the whole group. 279-281 is a serious arc that intertwines with Gintoki's backstory. 290-291 is a Sakamoto backstory arc. 293 is Kondo backstory, 300-328 is nonstop story and action. Trust me! The wait will be worth it.

so glad we can't get downvoted on here but damn i wish i could get into gintama. i truly do. i just generally dont watch anime for the comedy so a show whose foundation is literally that is just difficult for me.

Probably not. We can knock out way more series and attract different crowds maybe with that extra free time. That's 6 episodes a weekend we can do of another series!
