Hello from Winnipeg, Manitoba! I accept the failing grade for our provincial flag. It stinks, and before today I couldn’t articulate it beyond just saying it’s ugly and boring. Thank you Grey! If I were proposing a redesign, I’d slap the noble bison in the middle of the Canadian pale and call it a day. That would have to be at least a B tier flag.

Hey, thanks for the shoutout to Australia! I agree, the Australian state flags ARE a set; your "mostly" in there is not a state (Northern Territory) and that's why it's not part of the set. But thanks for recognizing us and that our states did a deliberate theme!

Canadas flag really is beautiful. I would almost rank it better than America's but I think that the meaning behind our design edges out the maple leaf. on a side note I always love watching the canadians try to build there flag during the Reddit r/place event

It's also as prevliant of a flag on the rock as the american flag is in the states. If you're driving around anywhere in Newfoundland, you'll see that flag displayed everywhere. Even for those islanders who have migrated across Canada have at least one Newfie flag somewhere. Heck a lot of fish and chip places in Ontario have the flag.

I couldn’t help notice that Nunavut’s flag was shown with its backside in the preview gif…oh god I’ve become one of those people. In addition to Narwhals, I feel like the fact it’s the only province/territory to include one if the poles (North Geomagnetic) could have been used to spectacular effect.

As an unapologetic Ontarian... our flag completely sucks. We should have, like... birds, or grapes, or soybeans, or a giant trillium on a Canadian pale... actually, you know what? I'm going to badly photoshop that last one right now and put it on the proper vexillology reddit Also Quebec's flag is the best, no contest. As a bonus, Quebec's capital, Quebec City, has the best city flag.

The Franco-Ontarian flag is a much-needed upgrade to our flag. A 1:2 vertical bicolour of green and white; charged with a white fleur-de-lys centred on the green portion and a trillium centred on the white portion. The trillium is the same stylized trillium that appeared for decades as the Government of Ontario's official symbol.

I'm from New Brunswick and am so pleased that you like our flag. I'm very fond of it myself and I believe that's a common feeling. Certainly people like to put our flag on things around here.

As a BC resident: no. BC has a uniquely awful flag, occupying the bottom tier alone. It’s not “so-bad-it’s-good.” At least Maryland has neat designs. BC has a badly stretched union flag with a clip-art crown slapped on top with a goofy sun and waves below. Why is the sun below the union flag? Because “the sun never sets on the British Empire”… The flag was adopted in 1960, well after the empire, and we knew better than to perpetuate colonial romanticism. BC, more than any other Canadian flag, is in desperate need of replacement. Also, Nunavut is S-tier.

agreed that Nunavut is S-Tier. I'm actually very fond of Newfoundland's, though Grey's suggestion isn't wrong. The unofficial Labrador flag is pretty good, too. Also, Grey, if you every do a selection of city flags, please consider doing some Canadian ones. I say this as a Torontonian who HATES our city flag (but our prior Metro Toronto flag was pretty bomb!)

I used to really like our flag here in BC. It stood out, unique from the other provincial flags in our country (hard stare at Ontario and Manitoba). The colours and shapes really embodies what I loved about where I loved: bright, vibrant, active, and energetic; a land and people living with nature. The older I got and the more I learned of our colonial history and present (along with art and design and vexillology) I started to find the flaws and even disliked aspects of it. The sun on the water lines seems strange, that ridiculous thin blue line that splits the horizontal, and worst of all is the symbolic reinforcement of the Crown and Union Jack above everything. Big fan of redesigning the flag as well as renaming this province, as much as I still kinda like the current flag :)

Great video! Can't really argue with any of it, although I think you were too generous with my home province of BC. Don't like the wavy sun rays, and the line separating the Union Jack from the lower portion stands out far too much. Looks like two flags stacked on top of each other.

I’m kind of disappointed that so many of these flags break the NAVA rules that Grey adhered to in his other flag vids, but he gave so many passes for these Canadian flags. Worse, the province closest to my heart got B/C on hers even though she followed the assignment. Still, I love a good vexililogical discussion so I was happy to see the video overall. More flag grading vids please!

I just wanted to say that I really liked this video and wondered how Canada and her provinces would stack up on your grading scheme.. I am from Ontario and loved how you managed to incorporate little bits of Canadian kitsch.. Having one of the girls holding a "Tim Hortons" coffee cup.. That was brilliant! and I am also glad to see that we as a country and its parts also did not need a secondary "grading" system for the "failed" flags from FS - FF...
