We’re joined by Canadian twitter.com/andrewneville to discuss the strange circumstances and ugly realities of the worst mass shooting in Canadian history—and what Hells Angels, the Mounties, and La Familia might have been up to along the coasts of Nova Scotia.

This might be insane to post but fuck it. I was considering suicide tonight. For hours. For real. And now I’m gonna snuggle up in bed and fucking listen to THIS and it’s all gonna be better.

Anastasia Cimino

(Cause y’all are funny, not cause I like listening to stuff about others’ pain.)

Jack Holmes

I'm sorry you're contending w/ heavy shit, Anasatasia. if you need to talk, i think i speak for the whole trueanon community when i say we're here. hang in there <3

Daniel Petrovic

Hang in there, Anastasia. One day at a time. <3

Justin Hubbard

Love to you, Anastasia. Dope name btw 😊

lililililili

anastasia we love u sweetie!!!!!! be nice to yourself!!!!!!! 💞💓💗

Michael Barbarich

I've been there, and fairly recently. I still am in a tremendous amount of pain, but things are so crazy right now I gotta stick around to see how it all plays out. Solidarity, and if I can stick around, you can stick around.

Jordi

It was a mob hit, Canada’s been in a lengthy gang war was for years now.

Anastasia Cimino

Thanks y’all. My dad died suddenly 1 month and 2 days before Father’s Day so it’s been rough. It wasn’t even COVID which would have made some king of sense - it was a 10% chance rare heart attack. His family (my grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins) who I’m really close with have been blaming it on me, telling me I caused him so much stress it was my fault. It’s just mind-fuck after mind-fuck.

Syd Beretta

I literally just learned about this

Glad you covered this, I saw this in Maclean's a week ago and nearly shit myself. The RCMP are psycho goons.

DanielDragon

Brace needs to relax on interrupting the guest 👀 Great episode though!

Daniel

Sup with the audio here fellas... brace seems like he’s a whole 30 seconds outta sync half the episode. Crazy story here, worth getting thru the choppy convo for it

Jack

Michigan here - I’ve traveled through lower Ontario and visited Windsor. It’s quite similar to the United States but cleaner fast food junctions

1) canada does have a gun culture. 2) I think Canada took the guns away to disarm Indigenous people after the massive protests by the Wet'suwoten that became a nationwide series of protests. I think Canada wants to push pipelines harder without any having any standoffs.

Anonymous

like it was a nationwide set of protests, people werein solidarity, largely with the Indigenous people, they were blocking traffic and rails. That's what they're really afraid of.

I never even heard of this one... Even though I'm a Patreon supporter, I had stopped subbing when I saw that there was a lot of twitch streams so I thought you'd be going to streams only and stopped subbing. But, Enty announced he was doing an episode with you guys and he's the reason I came here to begin with, so I had to swing by and saw this episode and re-subbed, lol! Really interesting story. I read through some of the articles and am surprised I never heard anything... I'm in Dartmouth, but I'm in the states, and whenever I try to look something up in my town that Google doesn't recognize, it'll send me to Dartmouth NS. So it's weird to keep hearing my town name. Anyway, really interesting, thanks for covering and can't wait to hear the Enty episode!!!

I was banned from Canada too!

Benphish

Live in Maine currently, bet you guys didn't know that Dartmouth is the town that they based trailer park boys off of. And Winston's in Maine are $6.50

Anonymous

Wow. I live in Halifax and it's surreal hearing Liz and Brace talk about this whole situation. Still can't believe such a fucked up thing happened here. I've even met Steve Skinner and can confirm he is a massive shit bag.

Rene Saller

I'm so sorry. It's horrible to lose a loved one suddenly. Hang in there.

Bess Connelly

it’s CUM (canada us mexico) not nafta

Justin Hubbard

I just finished watching Hannibal so this episode was... interestingly timed

TrueAnonPod

lol apparently there was a mistake and the audio was out of synch, it's fixed now, I wasn't actually interrupting him!!!!!!!!! I was framed!!!!!!

Crash Test Orphan

This is some crazy-good sponsored content for Sons of Anarchy

mrakobesiye

When I was a kid ppl drove across the border to buy American milk and cheese as well as cigarettes because y'all subsidize the shit out of the dairy industry. Don't know if they still do that or if the Hell's Angels had a piece of that too

Tristan Abbott

please please please unlock this. I remember vaguely one headline about this. I need to share it.

Astro Thirst

First of all, bless you two for not teasing Andrew for his "oats" and "aboats" (it took me forever to shake my Canadian accent). And re: firearms - While you can't pick one up as easily as you can in the US, it is fairly easy to get a gun in Canada. You just have to have the $$ to pay for a weekend course, test and license. There are a few additional hoops to jump through in Quebec. There are lots of people here who love their guns. And, yeah. Fuck the RCMP. They're dirtbags.

Zack Burke

Ted Kaczynski is still alive, he has always maintained that there was no connection between him and the government or MK Ultra... take that how you will... He is actually known for writing back to people who send him letters... (Can you imagine getting mail from Ted?)

Stephen Wells

Peter Griffen is beyond "allegedly" mobbed up.

Anonymous

Just getting to the part about him being a denture salesman and wow this sounds like the darkest season of Fargo irl

Joel

you cannot tell me that "Peter Griffin" was a "La Familia" guy, no

Bess Connelly

i think about this all the time

Julian

I could never wrap my head around a world famous criminal organization not only wearing uniforms but wearing ones with the name and location of the organization on them.

Ethan Hunt

If you want to go down the RCMP rabbit hole, check out this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_controversies_involving_the_Royal_Canadian_Mounted_Police and also this talk page on the October Crisis article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:October_Crisis#RCMP_staged_terrorist_acts You can verify the talk page stuff just by googling the relevant names. A lot of it was also reported by Macleans back in the '70s and '80s. For instance: https://archive.macleans.ca/article/1981/3/16/cops-and-robbers-which-were-which

Yonatan Gazit

I'm a bit late to the party, but I love the pod and started working back through old episodes and found another part of this story that blew my mind. Why on earth would the RCMP let an informant open a store with an incredibly noticeable HUGEEEEEEE smile slapped on its side?! You would think they made sure he kept a low profile, not become a Dartmouth cultural landmark. Insane, just absolutely insane. What the hell were they thinking? Clearly, they were not. Crazy to think that this happened only a year ago. I'm not on social media, but I don't really remember any remembrances in April on its anniversary. The cultural amnesia is real.
